Liveblog thread for 3DS new Nintendo IP announcement (Code Name STEAM)

Game reminded me of Freedom Force even before seeing the screenshots, guess I was right! :D

I'm excited!

7:07:38 PM PDT S.T.E.A.M. stand for:
7:07:48 PM PDT Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace
7:08:03 PM PDT The sound you are hearing is the english language buckling under the weight of that.
"What does STEAM stand for Agent Lion?"
"Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Meance"
"And what does that mean to you?"
"It means someone really wanted our initials to spell out STEAM"

But if it plays sorta like Valkyria Chronicles, that's a good thing.
It's a good thing that Nintendo is taking risks on new IPs. It's even better that they're doing something so radically different in terms of art direction.

3DS screens usually look pretty bad. I want to see it moving.

Gameplay sounds great, but really not liking the art style. I hope that Treehouse tomorrow will change my mind.

does this mean Lincoln is now canon in Nintendoverse

And I'm glad they picked this style. Finally, Freedom Force is revived!

This is the remake we DO need.

Why not wait until the next portable, it'll hopefully be a full remake and not just a remaster

I agree, but the simple fact Nintendo was willing to go with it is really refreshing. I'm not a big fan of the F-Zero character art either but I enjoy the games.

So they are thinking about the next iterations of both AW and FE... does that count as news? That at least implies AW isn't perma-dead.

this seems like a game better suited for a home console, if we go off pitch alone.

while im not asking to see it, splatoon plays like an idea fit for a handheld...

I hope none of you expected RE: Revelations level graphics. All of Nintendo's first party 3DS titles visually unimpressive plus 3DS is not a powerful machine. This is on par with FE: Awakening and completely fine by me.

While it's not an art style I'm wild for, it certainly looks and sounds interesting all the same, really interested in seeing it in action tomorrow : )

Can't wait to see this game in action. I remember not liking screenshots of Viewtful Joe but in action it was glorious, it'll be the same here i reckon.

Concept is awesome, love every single bit of it.

No, go plug in your N64 or GC if you need it so bad!

Have you actually done that recently? It plays at sub-20fps with dips to around 12fps frequently, and runs at 320p resolution.

It's a travesty that it hasn't been updated yet.

And in the UK, PAL version is 17fps max with dips to 8fps. My copy of majoras mask is nigh on UNPLAYABLE.

Kid Icarus and Smash are both spectacular.

EDIT: 3DS screenshots almost always look bad and jpgs butcher them further.

I don't know, as an artist myself, those character designs look pretty lame. You say you were inspired by Mike Mignola and Bruce Timm? Sorry to say, you kind of insult those two by saying that.
For the graphics, I have to see them in motion but so far I am not impressed and if I don't fight a massive Cthulhu alien overlord as the final boss I will be disappointed.

The Wii VC version runs at a higher framerate and runs at 480p, which is higher resolution than a 3DS version would be!

IS is the king of turn-based systems and they have never released a bad game as far as I know. They have my trust.

I can't wait to play as Lion.

I expected a mix of Kid Icarus and Smash with the tick outlines, and an art style close to Steamworld Dig, but a little more muted and comic booky. Got steampunk Solatorobo.

I'm shocked to see so many people get hyped about the gameplay and then stop caring because of the artstyle, it looks cool.

Weird to me too. Meh. It's a 3DS title. Until I see it in motion, I don't care. Even then, I'm here for how it plays.

I'm excited!

This is precisely what I had in mind except less superhero-like and with paler colors. I guess the VC talk got to me and I went more that direction for it? I dunno!

hyped regardless

My biggest non-gameplay concern is how over-the-top the dialogue will be

As someone who only played Valkyria Chronicles earlier this year, and really loved the mix of action and strategy, the game play description has me intrigued.

Really looking forward to seeing this tomorrow, trying to remain optimistic about the art

Majora's will happen eventually. Not this year though since the Pokemon remake is already their big game. Don't want to launch two remakes in the same holiday.

I hope so. It just seems hard to believe that when questioned about it previously, Nintendo have always responded that they don't think there's enough interest in the game for it to happen. If watching responses and hype from many sources this E3 has taught me anything it's that many, many peoples bodies are ready for a 3D/HD remake of MM.

Kid Icarus is not, and Smash does because it's a fighting game not many things going on. Kid Icarus is also on par with FE:A. There was meltdowns on KI:U trailer threads about graphics too, iirc.

Based on screenshots or how it actually looks while playing? I call bullshit on anyone who thinks Kid Icarus isn't impressive.

Inıtial screeshots, I believe. Everyone was amazed by E3 trailer but when the blurry and low res screens were out, minds were changed.
