LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Well I just logged on to PSN on my Vita. I just bought Freedom Wars (charged my account and everything) and I'm currently seeing a group of people online on my friends lists. Everything looks totally normal from my end.

Central Canada here.
 
I wonder if we will receive any games as compensation for this breakdown. Haven't we seen something similar in the past where Sony have handed out some freebies?

That was due to a security flaw on their end that forced them to shut off their services. Now someone else is denying you their services. Their services are there. They're just being held from you by someone else. Last time it was Sony's fault, and they compensated its users. This time it isn't.

yes when the network was hacked and credit card info was at jeopardy and the network was down for weeks.

this has been 3 days of intermittent connectivity. entirely different situation.
 
Any Idea if that 4 games 1 pick will go back up? I still have two vouchers for it and seen a lot of problems people are having with it, aside from the site eing down. I hope the code doesn't expire.
 
I'm pretty disappointed that RockStar got rid of the snow in GTA online already. I had hoped they would keep it around a few more days with all the PSN/XBL issues over the past few days.
 
Is this happening to some of you all as well?

Basically, I can connect and play online and see friends on. But my friend who lives in the same state can't connect to friends, can't play games online etc. He can download updates but nothing else.
 
Live isnt perfect right now but its working for the majority of people.

Keep in mind PS4 usually has the most amount of players, and right now its at 2k!

Even I can't defend PSN at this point, as someone who only owns a PS4.
 
Ive been PS4 online ~7h now. Cant play online game tho (Destiny PS4, kicked me out ~3h ago). I can access to PS store by PS4. Just took these screen caps from PS4 store.

And at the same time the argument goes the other way. It's a two way street and the fact is when Sony was hacked years ago it felt a lot like this and nobody knew for days what happened. And here we are while there's no proof they were negligent there's also no proof that they weren't either the absence of proof isn't proof of absence. Copy and paste Twitter updates are a poor excuse for customer service and keeping your customers apprised of the situation. The longer it drags on without an official response from Sony the worse it looks even you know that. And I have no doubt Sony is checking and investigating if anything was taken or compromised but if it has and we find out again days later well that changes the complexion of this argument significantly. Thanks for your opinion.

Mine was like that, I just left it on and everything just started to show up after about a half hour after signing in, the whats new stuff started to pop up, then the drop down menus and then finally the friends list.

Can we have both? Use the normal central servers when the network is "normal", but have the ability to switch on the torrents (and decentralized authentication) when things aren't normal (DDOS/massive sign ups in a short period, or simply issues with latency?)

Again, I think everyone is looking for a cost effective way to defang the script kiddies. It isn't cost effective to "re-do" the internet, nor is it cost effective to put in the number of central servers and/or supply massive bandwith. The easiest (and most cost effective) way to deal with LS and the copy cats is to take the LOL out of this, make it a costly pain to inflict a short period of pain on users.

Making it an effective short term solution would be in everyone's interest, including the rights holders, who won't make money if people think it's not worth buying the consoles.

It says right there that it's a traffic issue, there's no reason to believe any hack has occcured. The speculation in here is getting out of control

ddos is not hacking. This is not the first time Sony has been ddosed. Blizzard and Steam have as well. Stop it with the false equivalence. If it comes out that there's more to this than what we know then we talk about consequences. Until then, it's pointless.
 
To those hoping for bodily harm to come to those responsible for this DDoS attack, seriously, how unimaginative...

A more fitting ending would be when these asshats get caught, they should be sent to work with the Amish for 10 years hard labor, no cell phones, no internet, no TV. And every week/month be made to write an apology letter to all, (individually) the Xbox Live and PSN engineers/tech service people who had their Christmas with there families taken from them, to try and fix the mess that they made.

Now my Xbox One and PS4 are both down I have the matching set! On a serious note has this ever happened before to both Sony and MS at the same time? I've been gaming 25 years and I don't ever remember both services being crippled or partially crippled at the same time (not that live or PSN have been around that long in their current state but still). I'm about ready to dust off the Nintendo and cartridges maybe the Atari too this is ridiculous.
 
Given the holidays and the relative ease with which people can return things, I wonder whether these attacks will have an impact on Dec NPD and if so, what that may look like.

There's probably a fair share of people returning / swapping PS4 and X1's, potentially PC gaining the most from these events.

On the whole, probably not a material impact given the probable short-term nature, but still interesting to think about.
