A Finnish teenager who claimed responsibility for the cyberattack that brought down Xbox Live and PlayStation Network last year has been convicted of more than 50,000 instances of cybercrime.

Julius zeekill Kivimaki, 17, was sentenced to a two-year suspended sentence and was ordered to fight against cybercrime, according to Finnish media. He will not go to prison.

The Daily Dot spoke to a victim of Kivimaki's online harrassment, who said he was "absolutely disgusted by the ruling." The victim, an American, said Kivimaki called in false threats that sent American law enforcement to his home, and demanded the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation step in.

That's it???

EDIT: It appears he might not have been actually sentenced for the Christmas attacks (yet), but sentenced for crimes he committed prior. There are conflicting reports on this. He just so happens to be one of the Lizard Squad members who took part in the Christmas attacks.

Keep in mind that's a suspended sentence. Which I believe is similar to probation. No jail time.

It's a Christmas miracle!

While the DDOS may have been expensive to solve and inconvenienced a lot of people, there's really no way that a private citizen could compensate everyone in full. And it's not like it's a threat to anyone's safety, so I don't think an enormous sentence is appropriate.

DIdn't notice that it was a suspended sentence. Lame.

In the end, all he did was inconvenience some gamers. Lets not go nuts. Having said that, the punishment should have been something that would actually deter him from becoming a recidivist.

A fine that would take him years and years to pay would hurt him more. Especially at 17. 30K fine would have stung.
