I've lived all over, having spent most of the second half of my life in asian countries where homelessness/vagrance/busking is, like, heavily controlled, it's always weird going back to places like spain, portugal, south america, where things like begging, pickpocketing, slum neighborhoods and just generally shady places are still very real; it feels like you're stepping back into the 90s... it's really weird to have to watch your wallet...

slight aside...buenos aires stunk of pee because the corrupt government doesn't spend anything on street cleaning, really weird to walk among incredibly expensive 1920s-era art nouveau apartment blocks that make western europe look poor while you're slipping on years-old garbage bag grime spots and smelling urine on every doorstep

I've been a few places where it really does makes you wonder how something so beautiful could be be forgtotten. It's saddening. Poland, Czech Rep is better. The further you go west ...

I'm not insulting the locals they at still amazing but the ones i've seen looked all forgotten about which was such a shame.

Totally with you.

I have to say, head north to places with a sense of constructive collaboration like Germany and things are generally better taken care of.

it's corruption, they're as proud of their graft and backroom deals as they are their morning espresso, nice clothes and perfect hair lol, no chance any streets are getting cleaned if there's a nice dinner on offer at the best restaurant in town
I know well, was engaged to the Sicilian. Her Father was let go as an architect when someone came out and was warned. Was even warned her ex might kill me. Jokes on you you Sicilian girl, no fear! Don't speak Italian.

Olives branches into the windows, orange trees being everywhere, ancient turtles on the roads. It was a different wonderful world. Stunningly beautiful. Was like going back into ancient beauty.

Germany, curry wurst and whores for breakfast. Only went to Dusseldorf though, i think the major brothel I went to was a train ride out. Worth it? yes. Expensive yes. Would bank approve my credit again, probably not.

I was going around buying cigarettes likes crazy. "How many do you have?" , "What?", "I'll take them all!". Got stopped for a bombcheck at Dusseldorf airport where they sold bloody cartons. Taken into a room and my bag scanned and everything. They all laughed at how stupid I was buying single ones along the way and were right. I was told I needed to. Being bomb checked was kinky though.

Honestly the dude I went with had lived and worked there for years.

Think he trolled me but the kiosk buying was confusing before the airport. Cigarettes were much cheaper then so I was collecting them like Pokemon cards. Confused the kiosks!

Edit: Think about 3-4 euro a pack. 14 here now, should have bought more.
