Log Horizon S2 |OT| been down so long it looks like up to me

I guess the question Log Horizon is forcing to ask is how much of spoiler are these without context?

Yeah. I mean it isn't really a spoiler right if we have no idea what's going on? Pointing out that they are spoilers are more damaging I think...

Shows do flash forwards and cold openings all the time, although two in one episode is strange.

It is a very curious choice, I am hesitant to call it sloppy just yet since we do not know hoe future episodes are going to be framed yet.

Yeah it made me want to watch more, so mission accomplished. As someone who has read absolutely nothing from the LN it didn't bother me at all... I want to know the events leading to what happened in the open and what happened at the end.

Indeed, this may be one of those knowledge divides that could quickly spiral out of control. I too was compelled by the bits out of time, I can see how they are connected in the overall sense but I can only make guesses based off of limited information.

I haven't read the novels or anything, I have no idea whether those are spoilers or just "haha, we trolled you so bad lolz", but still, I don't like when shows do this.

Spoilers are only really spoilers if you point them out...

...Unless it's something obvious like who dies.

I almost forgot, but I don't remember Kanami's boobs being that big in the first season...

She's pretty much Tifa now, except with a crazy personality.

New toon, that's not her main that she used in the tea party.

Log Horizon II: 1

Let me get it out of the way: I'm extremely happy they kept Database Database Wow Wow Wow as the theme song. Nothing could top that.

Having said that I'm not liking DEEN's style. The character designs look fine in still shots but in motion the faces seem off. Almost like the angles and movements deform the faces for some reason. It bothers me a bit.

Still, it was great to be back even if we were thrown right into the meat of all these plans, the pacing suffered because I was more confused about the jumps than understanding what was going on. So yeah. Hopefully this trend doesn't continue throughout the show and that it was a tool so they could get us excited for future events and asking questions. Log Horizon S1's biggest strengths were the pacing, the writing, and the focus of economics/strategy. Hopefully that continues, because let's be honest we can get over the art since S1's wasn't all that great on characters, even if the backgrounds were great.

I suspect it's because they wanted to squeeze in some flashy moments to get people hyped though they might have overdone it a little.

Things should be more focused next week onwards- LFR22M Palm, need Healers.

Oh wow I didn't think they'd keep the Database song, but they did :O

The OP's animation is totally out of sync with the song though lol.

Everyone has upgraded gear! The coat Serara had on was so cute.

I liked the episode, though some of the transitions could have been better,. I can't wait until the next episode!

I was a little confused by the ending

Is it that if a raid boss kills you, you get sent back to the real world, and this is just foreshadowing? IDk

Glad its back though

It is very disappointing, but the animation was never the show's strongest point. It was always about the writing, pacing, and economics imho. Also background art, but we'll see how it goes this time around I don't want to judge based on DEEN reusing background.

It's not just the animation, the artstyle and technical skill seems lower as well. Even stills look a bit eh.

I'll keep watching though, I'm in it for the politicking and the worldbuilding.

Btw, is the Kunie Clan a bunch of NPCs or Players?

Pretty sure they're NPC
The wikia says Kinjo, the purple-haired dude, is a Person of the Land

Log Horizon S2 - Ep 1

HOLY DATABASE! So glad they kept the song as it pumped me right up for the show. God. Damn. That song is totally the best.

Relations aside this was a pretty solid start to the season. Finding out the city is in trouble thanks to the rent it has to pay (thought building costs were a one time thing, but 5mil a month just for the bank is insane). Love the MMO references and background to make something like this world work.
Where does the money even come from? Who puts it there? BOOM

The set up for an actual raid looks fun too. Guys, I'm just happy to be back in the database. WOW.

~_~ well that's disappointing.

It is, but I think in an episode or two I'll be okay with it. I'm just looking forward to how this season plays out with all of the thread lines running right now.

the fuck happened to shiro's face. I guess they are trying to go for a 'haven't slept in days' look, but yeah... looks off.

And the out of order scenes and random real world scenes makes it all a jumbled mess. Hope the rest of the season ditches that.

Log Horizon S2 1

DATABASE DATABASE

Well the art is slightly different but its not that jarring with the exception of Marielle. Enjoyable first episode

Those scenes foreshadowing future events at the beggining and end of the episode were really necessary?

So, in the DATABASE, everyone's sweet new armors look great (even with worse animation)! Also, there's even more characters joining all the returning characters!

I don't know why, but I <3 Marie's moments even though she is just used to explain things.

Looks like they will be doing Volume 7 before Volume 6 of the LN. Sad that I have to wait an extra 4-6 episodes to see my favorite volume animated.
Why is this happening?

Who should I pay attention and look for?

Why is this happening?

Who should I pay attention and look for?

Probably happening because Volumes 6 and 7 are concurrent anyway.
6 =
Akatsuki, the Princess, etc. in Akihabara
7 =
Shiroe, Naotsugu, the Silver Swords, etc. raiding

Ah okay. It wasn't really made that apparent and NPCs usually don't hold that much power.

They already said that the Kunie runs the banks and even maintains the City Guards that stop players from fighting in non-combat zones. You can pretty much assume they're in charge of all these normal 'unseen' city facilities in a MMO town.

Why Studio Deen, out of all animation studios?

DEEN is what you would call "assembly line" Anime studios.

Those scenes foreshadowing future events at the beggining and end of the episode were really necessary?

Not to this level, but I guess they wanted something flashy for a first episode.

Volume 6 and 7 happens at the same time chronologically.

Haha. Anyways I don't mind cold openings and flash forwards. I want to know what happens.

Reading too much much into the first episode I think.

Akatsuki being separated from Shiroe is a good thing - gives her room to develop into something more than just a love interest/moeblob. Enjoyed the episode, though the end was really unnecessary.

I thought the ep was pretty good story wise. A nice return to glasses and 'oh shit MMO stuff'.

Yeah this caught me off guard, I was like 'hey wait a second, I don't remember this right after'.
Probably a stronger opening since I thought 6 was slower (fine by me)

:)

Maybe I just don't have the eye for it, but I'd never guess the studio changed if it hadn't been mentioned here - it pretty much keeps the feel of the previous season:
- same OP song
- still playing up "adjusting glasses" moments
- for whatever reason the ED still focuses on Akatsuki
- characters still handling the same kinds of things as before (fine when that means also adjusting to new concerns)

I don't remember the Tifa-alike though... Maybe one of the newbies that was being trained last season? Not a lot of monk class characters then...

I like how tidbits of lore from the game keep proving relevant in some way, yet guys who are good at game mechanics and tactics seem to be as or more aware of that aspect of the game than everybody else, which is one of the few things that doesn't quite match my experience with MMOs - generally, people who do high-level content don't seem to concern themselves too much with the minutia of the lore.
With no resources like a wiki or some collector's edition book about it, I'd expect that knowledge about the subtleties of NPC society, mythology and whatnot to be better known by players not quite with Shiroe's focus, who might serve as counsel on those matters - then again, now Shiroe has that NPC scholar for that...

She's also the main dps.

Kanami, the former Tea Party leader.

Gamers who invest this much time into a game they love who definitely know about the lore of their game. HOWEVER in this particular case, the Kunie and the story of the Alv Princesses were never a part of the lore from the game- All of this was only discovered when Shirou interacted with the Landers (specifically Regan).

Things that was simply mechanics now become an actual 'thing' in this reality. Backstories that never existed now explains all these things.

Pros: YEAH FUCK DATABASE IS BACK.
It was an even blend of what is usually the whole shipping/moe stuff and a good chunk of lore/information coming in. Nice to see that at least the dialogue hasn't been dialed back since the studio switch. Learning
about the Kunie Clan and their ambitions, along with that whirlpool of dosh via raid.
is going to be interesting. Love the new ED.

Cons: Animation is considerably worse than S1, and that says a lot considering S1 wasn't really a powerhouse in Animation.
The odd real life/game flashbacks seem really jarring. and the random timeskips are annoying too

Otherwise Episode 1 was a good start. Excited for Episode 2.

WOWOWOW

Glad this is back !
But I gotta echo the general sentiment here, god that new studio's work is quite awful, characters lost a lot of personality and the backgrounds are so bland, goddamn.

Season 2 E1
The pacing felt off this episode with the constant changes. Hopefully it was just a way to tease the watcher and get them interested. There was very much a noticeable drop in the background art but the character animation seems unaffected. Hopefully this was just some first episode weirdness.
