Akatsuki really drags down the show :/
"I don't have money for top tier weapons ANNND I have never been in a raid ..."

Soooo wut, is she just a casual? Seemed like she played with them a decent bit before shit went down ... I figured she was a top tier ninja which is why they gave her so many important jobs.

But she's just a damn casual who, for some reason, HARDCORE RPs in the game? >:/

What's wrong about her leaning more toward the RP/social side of the Bartle scale? So many other characters in the show engage in variation on that, and unlike her, practically have never been seen in combat.
At least she's made herself useful on several occasions.

Maybe this is building up toward her attempting a raid or some risky solo or low-man endeavor without having the knowledge, putting in the research or lacking the analysis skills to come out of it well?...

Yeah her being a high level person who never raided really isn't that far of a stretch. RPing and having sick gear have nothing to do with each other.

When I played wow I barely raided. I just did instances with friends. Didn't get into raiding until waaaay later.

Yea, Akatsuki issue is that she has always been a hardcore RPer, and being a ninja assassin means she didn't engage in too many social circles.

Aside from the hardcore RP thing, Akatsuki also seems to be somewhat of a loner, isn't she? I thought that's the reason she gravitated towards Shiroe before the Apocalypse, because he was a something of a loner post-Debauchery too.

I think they partied up once right before the Apocalypse and then met again right after.

Her being a lone wolf and RPing that way in game does work against her with regards to raiding and some higher level gear. Plus, things have been busy in the months after the Apocalypse and neither she nor the rest of the guild has done much in the way of high level fighting. It's also safe to assume most of those weapons were 90+.

Finally, a MMORPG episode.

I think they skipped out on cool fighting scenes though. I wanted to see that minotaur battle. Instead, we got endlies ooze killing. Would have like to see the 2nd raid boss too. Oh well, least we got one raid boss.

If you're curious about the raid comp.

Wow, watching and listening to Shiroe talk about raids sure brought me back to my Ragnarok Online and FFXIV: ARR days. Really shows that the author actually knows what the fuck he's talking about when it comes to raids and the challenges a players has to face within them. It also went to show despite how powerful Shiroe and his raid comrades are its still an extremely hard fight. I know a lot of people in this thread prefer hearing world building, but you can't have an anime about an MMO and completely ignore one of the hugest parts of it which is going on raids and thinking of strategies to defeat the raid boss, even better is the fact they only have their own experience and trial and error to go in order to figure out how to defeat it. The fight with the first raid boss really helps show people not all the familiar with MMOs how much can go into a boss fight.

Really like the fact we got to hear some nice banter from some of the other raid members besides just Shiroe and the other main characters. I also wanted to note holy shit at them being in the raid for nearly a month.

Unfortunately the show has a budget of about one dollar and fifty two cents.

Was looking for some new anime to watch on the treadmill. Ended up marathon through the series this week. Best decision in a long time. Can't believe I missed the train on the first season. Wished there are more screen time for lolininja.

Episode 3

Now that's a raid! Nice break from the world stuff and back to the meat of the matter. Really made me long for my Everquest days.

Raids!
RAIDS!
RAIDS EXPLAINED PROPERLY!
Thank you, Log Horizon.
I feared we'd get the usual "BUT MC IS OVERPOWERED, SO WE ONESHOTTED THE BOSS", and look at this beautiful, videogame-realistic thing!

The raid oh man

Making me want to jump into MMO's again

Good episode this week. Art seemed a bit better. Faces didn't look as derpy as before.

Episode 3 made me confirm I really love Raids and MMOs in general. Can't wait for next episode

that may or may not be an event monster for Xmas ./gasp

Log Horizon Season 2, Episode 3:

This is an episode that showcases what is truly wonderful about Log Horizon, it has raids, it understands raids, and uses raids in proper context, none of this Kirito bullshit here.

LOL, nice to see so many of similar minded people wanting to jump back into MMO and raids because of this episode :D

Often it makes me really excited to get the LN once it finally is published here in the states next year since most of the game mechanics and details will be far more interesting to read about than just looking and hearing shiroe describe. Otherwise pretty dull moments there in dungeon due to be overly repetitive.

But at least we finally caught up with Tohya squad. Best Christmas present thus far.

William is a pretty cool guy as well.

Agreed. At the same time I'm also glad they didn't show Shirou instantly pulling up a plan on the spot. A true Raid encounter takes several tries to formula a working strategy and then having every member perfect it... even more time if you're aiming for World First lol.

raid raid raid.

fuck i kinda want to get back into a mmo again.... but NOPE. can't fall in that trap :X

Someone seriously need to make a SP game that can somehow simulate the raid experience.

Anyhow new healer lady is pretty cool. Didn't like her much before, but now, she's alright.

I like where the story is going. The details about the MMO mechanics were a nice touch.

The frequent use of panning still shots to fake motion is getting a little annoying though.

That was a good episode. Motherfuckin' Raiding. Love when Log Horizon gets into the technical aspects of MMOs. The creator really understands them unlike SAO.

Marathoned this over the summer and loved the show. Finally got around to watch the first 3 of season 2. Started off slow again like last season but loved this raid episode. Seeing as I've been playing way too much destiny, doing the raid twice a week, it was great to see a show really explain raiding correctly

Also who was the tifa wannabe in the first ep? Is it someone we haven't been introduced to yet, flash forward style? I don't think Nao has that new gear that was mentioned in the first ep yet

Kanami was the guild leader of Debauchery Tea Party who you saw in flashbacks at the beginning of season 1 talking to Shiroe when he was trying to decide what to do with himself.

S2 E3

RAID!

I was pretty excited that the majority of the episode focused specifically on the raid, encounters with the new raid bosses, and dealing with issues surrounding delving into a new raid. I am way more excited about what is going on with Shiroe and gang over Akatsuki and life in the big city. At least the revelation of what appears to be a seasonal event might make things a bit more interesting.

Well with the preview for episode 4 it seems they will be going back and forth between volume 6 & 7 throughout the first half of the season. Which makes sense considering they happen over the same time period and a few parts would be really awkward if they just went through all of 7 and then went to 6.

Well I can tell people in here probably aren't going to like this episode as it's pretty heavily centered around Akatsuki, but I'm fine with it. She's admitting everything people hate about her haha.

that set up for next episode thoughhhhhh

Log Horizon Season 2, Episode 4:

Well, seemingly to counterbalance the action heavy episode of last time, this one is all about character and world building. On the one hand I am glad they are giving Akatsuki a lot of chracter focus as she has been lacking in it, but on the other hand, holy fuck the Linkin Park act is getting old. We get it, you feel weak and powerless. Though I will say that there is a theme that Akatsuki shares when seemingly everybody else, indeed the theme of the episode was isolation. We also get a surprising amount of characterization for Lenessia and I'll be honest, I like her a lot more as a character then Akatsuki. Anyway, we also see a few new characters, including what seems to be a chemist, I didn't think Log Horizon had those. Still, things look like they are picking up in earnest as the fated time is coming closer.

EP4
BOOOOOOOOOOOOORING.
Okay, not really. I still like Lenessia, but the Akatsuki problems are getting out of hand.
It's a game, girl. Go there and grind, then join up a raid and get that god-damned katana you wanted or something.

S2 E4

Probably the weakest episode of the season so far. Akatsuki hangs a bit too much of her confidence on validation from Shiroe instead of her own abilities. She's feeling down since she isn't raiding with him, but we can assume that there are some real reasons why he left her behind which will become a bit more apparent as the season moves forward. Based on how things ended this week, next might be a bit more interesting as it less raid-heavy but also less focused on Akatsuki being down on herself.

Log Horizon S2:EP4

Since this season started the show hasn't kept up the quality, and I don't mean just in the animation department. I loved the world building, the economics, and Shiroe's plans/tactics coming into fruition. I'm getting none of that this season. And this episode was 'look at the cute girls in christmas' the episode, so even more of a waste of time. Fuckin a I don't want the show to die like this.

Pretty much.
At some point it seemed like Henrietta was even getting some character development outside her fits over Akatsuki, but those took over quickly...

I do hope you all are paying attention though, the grand plans are still spinning in the background, this show has not forgotten how to build upon itself.

Episode 4

Akatsuki reminded myself a bit when I kept comparing myself to others and getting depressed as a result.

Average chapter. Dat Deen quality *sigh*

This. I don't really get the complaints about the story. The stuff that was set in motion the previous season is still here and Shiroe is obviously up to something. There were even more hints dropped this very episode.

I don't know Akatsuki reminds me of my experience with FF14.
Get to the endgame grind for over half the gear you need, suddenly you feel so far behind that its overwhelming.

Seeing as in this world Raids can take months, Akatsuki is likely years away in skill/gear.

Indeed, Nayn visit to the Chemist clearly has larger implications, this is watching a rare good aligned chessmaster at work.

still don't get why shiroe left her back in town to guard the princess.

Unless he somehow foreseen the events of the end of this eps... idk.

She wouldn't be useful in this raid, so if he had taken her she either blocks an important roster spot or she waits outside the place forever.

It's more due to having to be instructed on what to do and the proceedings of a raid. Everybody currently in the raid knows what to do and about making smaller groups, how to attack bosses, etc..
