Using X-24 instead of Sabertooth is a huge waste, considering their history and that ending.
Sabertooth was originally supposed to be in the movie

From the screenwriter
“There was a moment when we were thinking about, as I recall, Jim [Mangold] had an idea where when they were on the run, and they go to the gambling town, there may have been at that point they were going to see [Sabertooth] for help. He was going to be there for help. Now that you mention it! I wouldn’t swear to it, but we thought that would have been an interesting thing to do. And then for whatever reason we didn’t do it.”

Was an alright movie. Our theaters lights came on during the ending part of the movie. We complained and got super duper movie passes to see whatever we want in any style Cineplex theater.

Probably gonna save 'em to do VIP Avengers

Weird. Same thing happened at the 7pm showing I went to. Cinimark in Canton OH. Was odd.

Oh, and the added Deadpool trailer at the beginning was great. The changing gag went on for so long that it cycled back around to being hilarious. And the "Nathan Summers is Cumming" graffiti was great.

Still trying to process the whole thing, but I thought it was incredible. Emotions welled up in me on more than one occasion, and I was at times astounded by how downtrodden the movie was allowed to be. This was bleak; only a handful of uplifting moments surrounded largely by pain, sadness and regret. Jackman nailed his portrayal of Logan as a physically and emotionally broken hero, ailing and bitter and surly as he runs on empty. Stewart's Xavier was different from what I predicted, but hit very near to home for me; having dealt closely with a senior citizen in the final stages of life myself, I easily related to Logan's caretaker role, that guilty mix of tenderness and impatience. And Dafne Keen was amazing as Laura! Completely sold the part of X-23, and I thought she held her own alongside Jackman and Stewart, which was pleasantly surprising to see in a young actress. Her first action scene: WOW.

There were some things I didn't care for, like when they strayed into movie cliché territory, but even then a few of those were subverted; very minor complaints in the grand scheme, and I'll probably see it again this weekend.

The audience was very somber leaving the theater, too. Quiet.

I loved how vulnerable they made Wolverine feel. Like, in lots of movies characters are weakened but you never really feel like they become vulnerable. Every encounter Logan had felt extremely dangerous and that he wouldn't come through the other end.

I can actually see the downtrodden vibe of the whole thing bringing grosses down. It is definitely a punch in the gut a few times during it and uncomfortable, but don't see most of the public going for repeat viewings because of that.

Of course, they could keep going back because of that being different from other comic book films.

Nobody cares about Puck.

I wonder if the lights were programmed for the original timing, before the studio sent the Deadpool preview to go at the front of it.

Just got back from my viewing. We had the Deadpool teaser in the beginning, was ultra confused until I realized what was happening.

I really liked the movie. It didn't really go beyond what you would expect of this kind of The Road/TLOU/Father and daughter story where the father is a complete asshole story, but it was still a welcome break from other superhero movies. I just wish it was more bleak.

One thing though that I really hated, and this wasn't from the movie itself, but the theater crowd. Holy hell. I could hear people smirking after every little fucking thing, even if it was not played for laughs AT ALL, and even many audible laughs during completely inappropriate scenes.

Like when Logan said he was planning to kill himself with the adamantium bullet, I could hear someone laughing. Loudly.

When Logan said "So this is what it feels like" I heard another loud laugh.

There were so many other little things like that too throughout the movie. It legitimately detracted from my experience. I think it's partly a problem of immaturity ("LOL LOOK LOGAN IS STUMBLING AND TRIPPING BECAUSE HE'S BROKEN AS FUCK, SO FUNNY LMAO") and also that they've been conditioned by other superhero movies to expect a fun snarky comedy adventure where cool stuff happens. There are some scenes that are legitimately played for laughs. But most of the movie is not that. But people still found it within themselves to laugh at EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING.

I am incredibly mad about this

That is definitely weird behaviour to exhibit in those scenes, jesus...

That's always the gamble when going to the theater, because some people who enjoy movies are also irredeemably stupid.

But yeah, movie was great. Some clunky exposition with the X-23 origin, but outside of that my complaints are pretty minor.

I also thought the clone thing was worth it just for the tragedy of Xavier thinking that he was murdered by his only friend.

Also...while its still fresh

Did you guys notice the sword that was hanging on the wall near logans bed in the shed around the start of the movie

If that's the sword from the last wolverine movie it points towards this movie being on that timeline ( not after dofp ) but he has his metal claws back....so i dont now

Think im overthinking this
Could of just been a reminder that the director did the last movie

I think that's the Muramasa blade.

I had a bunch of people in my theatre laughing out loud at the chubby kid running away from the soldiers during the climax. This is an innocent kid who's frantically sprinting for his life and it's funny 'cos he's... chubby?

And I may have misheard the line, but doesn't Caliban reference something about feeding spotted dick to Xavier at the start of the film? That elicited laughs, I assume, because they heard the word 'dick'. Goddamn.

Feel bad for Professor X.

Mutants were just a flash in the pan. Humanity solved that problem in a non-violent way.

The Professor dedicated his life for something that ultimately was just a temporary thing that everyone else on Earth moved on from.

Then he accidentally killed the last few remnants of his race.

Then he died and was buried unceremoniously, one of the greatest and most important mutants of all time, buried in some random spot near a lake.

I also thought the clone thing was worth it just for the tragedy of Xavier thinking that he was murdered by his only friend.

Oh yeah, that was one of the real gut-punchers. Logan was fucked up by that.

"That wasn't me. It wasn't me."

Something like that. Imagine being trapped in that house amidst all that death and the one person you care about (who you've pretty openly regarded as the closest thing you've ever had to a father) is going to die within the next 5 minutes and you might not get the time to explain to him you didnt' kill him.

So far as the Adamantium bullet goes: I don't think X-24 has a full-powered healing factor, as evidenced by the injections he has to take. Also, considering what it did to his head, I think not only was that bullet adamantium coated, it was an explosive round.

Logan was not fucking around when it came to cashing himself out.

At least it has water.

I wonder how people feel about and react to the touched upon notions of immigration and asylum among those persecuted - those elements specifically felt true to the X-Men as social commentary.

Oh my god yes, both things. I was so pissed off when a bunch of people laughed at him running away. I almost wanted one of the lab kids to get brutally murdered so people would understand this was some serious shit.

And yeah, anytime a word like fuck or shit or dick was used laughs were heard. People need to grow up. Someone saying "I'M SO FUCKING TIRED OF ALL THIS" is not supposed to be funny to anyone above the mental age of 12.

For the most part the theatre group was great, except for when Logan was screaming and beating up the truck after he buried Xavier. Then they started laughing and I got so mad.

Otherwise they were completely on point for emotional beats.

Loved it by the way. Did perfect justice for those characters.

Also, if I recall, Zander Rice was the same scientist who made X-23 in the comics. Right down to his reason being that Logan killed his pappy.

All of that happened at mine, too. I laughed at the spotted dick just because that whole rant from Caliban was sardonic. But laughing at the kid pissed me off.

I also liked how the funeral went from tragic to darkly comic and back to horrifyingly sad in the space of like 90 seconds.

Yeah. Logan being mad at the truck and swearing was funny at first, then it became sad when you realized he was just lashing out at anything he could.

And man, his stomach looking like shredded meat in that urgent care clinic was something else.

And some other random thoughts on the film:

I don't want Jackman to ever come back to this role. That was a damn great send off, and a helluva somber note to end it on. Jackman finally got the one great Wolverine movie he always wanted and deserved, and damn did he get it.
The "So, this is what it feels like" was so good, and it felt earned. He went out doing the right thing, defending those that needed it.

As I left the theater I was thinking I need some time to think about this one, but more and more the emotional punch of it all is rolling back in and I need it again sooner rather than later. It really did feel like a western with how the narrative flowed and the morality play of it all. Now I feel compelled to binge some old westerns in the next week or so to get more of a fix like this.

Holy shit, were we in the same showing? I had some lady laughing hysterically at what felt like every emotional beat the whole movie. It was frustrating.

Incidentally, X-23's presence here is especially fitting when you remember that she debuted in X-Men: Evolution, a cartoon that was commissioned to capitalize on the success of Jackman's first X-Men movie. Now she joins him on the big screen for his final outing.

Haha I had a similar experience, incredibly annoying took me out of the movie. Overall I really enjoyed the film. Jackman and Stewart were fantastic of course but that kid really stole the show for me. Especially when she was repeatedly stabbing the clone.

Yup!

Finished watching it. Emotional roller coaster for me. Tear jerker in some parts.

Man.... can't believe they did a wolverine movie like this to be honest. The relationship between the main cast is something else. Hugh and Patrick really did a good job. Even dafne for her young age did amazing job.

Really don't want to spoil anything but I definitely can see people who don't even know the characters or x-men can enjoy this movie for what it Is.

She finally kills Logan.

There's a couple of issues I had with it(X-24 felt like he was from another sillier movie, the iPhone video exposition, Rice randomly explaining why Mutants were disappearing at the end) but overall I loved it.

That ending/final shot killed me.

I had literally the exact same experience. People were thinking everything was a fucking Iron Man quip.

Amazing movie though. Really surpassed my expectations.

Good. But I suspect a lot of people will fall into the trap of praising it via "Wow this was good and its barely even a superhero movie! Its more of a Western!" and while thats mostly true, I think the comic elements actually add a lot to the film, which is weird because usually its the exact opposite. And I really don't give a shit about the X-Men movies. This is the first one I've seen since...I don't even remember.

Still bad villains though. Whoops! Though I think they did the villain as they did just for that one scene. Which was a really good scene.

Amazing movie. The fanboy in me wishes they would have brought out an old sabertooth to fight wolverine instead of
x 24
I remember Liev Schreiber mentioning he was approached to do Logan and I'm guessing that's exactly what his role in the film would have been. Shame it didn't happen.

I actually liked the use of X-24, because it serves as a foil to Logan and what he may had become if it weren't for Xavier.

The movie was pretty slow but decent I thought.

I laughed at the truck shovel scene and so did other people. I feel like it was intended to be comically tragic and then become serious afterwards.

That was my takeaway as well.

I did like them driving the stolen fishing truck after, then Laura sitting in Logan's leg like a booster seat as he slept.

Really enjoyed this movie and thought it did right for what might be Wolverine's last ride. It didn't deviate from what I thought which was a bit of a shame, but still a highly enjoyable finish for a highly liked character.

This is a good point.

An unrelated thing I forgot to mention: I thought the X-23 actress did an excellent job up until she started speaking English. She was okay after that, but the mute parts and even the Spanish parts were the best in my opinion. Maybe she was supposed to be a fast learner but it felt sort of forced. The worst was when she said "daddy" to Wolverine at a very emotional point when you would expect her to slip back to Spanish.

My favorite thing when she was mute was the crazy feral scream when attacking. I was sort of afraid there would be the cartoon X-Men storyline of X-23 betraying Wolverine or the X-Men or whatever (my memory is foggy), but instead it was a touching story of Wolverine understanding there are things she needs to be taught, like not stealing stuff, while simultaneously knowing he's a really bad parent and messed up in all sorts of ways.
