LOST 06.17/18/18.5: "The End" (Everything Else Was Just Progress)

Listening to GJB, Jorge Garcia confirms (re-confirms?) that the broadcast of the Numbers heard in "316" was his voice; he did the recording. But he won't say that it was actually Hurley who recorded the Numbers because he doesn't "want to write Lost."

Re: the outrigger shooter
Jorge and his gf, after about 5 minutes of pondering out loud, seem to think it was MIB-Locke and Ben who were shooting at the outrigger, when they were making their way from Hydra Island to the main island back in S5. But they hardly seem sure of it, and say that they'll have to consult the script when they get back home to be sure of that.

Re: Illana
They re-confirm that Illana was supposed to be Jacob's daughter, and that it was supposed to be revealed early in the season, but the line was changed from "He was my father" to "he was the closest thing I had to a father." Their reasoning was that revealing Illana as Jacob's daughter would have then opened up a whole new can of worms, where viewers would want to know Illana's mother and everything about her lineage, but I can't tell if this was Darlton's reasoning or just Jorge speculating.

I gotta say. Despite me really loving the last season, listening to the commentaries and watching the behind-the-scenes stuff and their talk about what the show is about and everything, it really makes me appreciate it even more. They inadvertently connect some dots that makes the whole story feel a lot more organic. Kinda hard to explain, that's just what I've gotten out of the bonus features thus far.

Finally, it just makes me scoff even more at the naysayers.

I still wish they went with a different theme for the box set. Most of the extras (other than the map I guess) don't excite me at all.

It wish they included something other than Senet in the set. I understand its significance (black and white pieces, Jacob/MIB), but I would much rather have something that was a little more connected to the early seasons. Preferably something hatch-related.

But everything about the hatch was a complete waste of time

Man... hearing some of the season 6 score isolated during the bonus features

I want it so bad

something I found interesting, in the script when the Ajira plane takes off, Jorge is reading it out loud and it makes special mention of Giacchino :lol

I remember reading how Damon and Carlton actually write Giacchino cues into the scripts.

That rocks. Seriously.

Someone just posted this in the comments section of the Jorge podcast on DarkUFO:

SPOILER ALERT: In the new complete box set, there's a letter from a crew member of the Black Rock, describing their trip to the Island (apparently just hours before it crashed into the statue). In it, he describes how they sent a small boat to the island to try and determine where they were, but only one man returned. He said they were shot at by another vessel that suddenly disappeared in a flash of light.

? for real?

he show itself? Right in line with how they've handled most of the show.

Who was that? Where'd that come from? What's he even talking about?

In order for that explanation to make sense, the people from the Black Rock's scouting boat would have to: travel to the Island's future, commandeer a canoe (I doubt they'd have that type of outrigger on an old school slave ship), have the shootout with Sawyer and crew, then travel back to 1867 to report their story...

uh, ok. Not very plausible.

is erigu back? time to fling insults again?

not at all, the boat in 1867 sends a small crew/boat (with weapons) and jumps 150 years forward and lands at the spot near where Sawyer and company were using their boat as well.

Ben and Flocke makes sense.

Flocke trys to get Ben to kill the candidates or because Flocke has Lockes memories knows he has to do this, because that is what always happened.

The person who Juliet shot is Flocke, but he just shrugs the bullet off

You're saying that the "mystery outrigger" is the boat that came directly from the black rock? That's a stretch.

why would they be time traveling in the first place?????

exactly.

The whole idea sounds cool, but once you start breaking down the specifics, it falls apart.

Im a bit annoyed because lost information has been scarce the last couple of months and now that a bunch of stuff is coming out, im not watching or reading any of it because I want to wait to watch it on ma blu ray.

Frustrating!

If you're passing through the island's barrier* and you're not heading through it at the correct bearing, you could end up in a randomly, completely different time.

Like Faraday's rocket experiment, or the doctor's body that washed up on shore even though (from the perspective of the Losties) he hadn't been killed yet. We even saw that with the Black Rock, where it was nice and sunny from Jacob and MIB's perspective on the island, but from the ship's side of things it was dark and stormy.

*technically it's not really a barrier, just the edge of the island's sphere of influence, I just say barrier for short...which I have now rendered pointless with this explanation :lol

Thanks for the rundown, brandon!
That's what I figured. The "thank you" after MiB stabs her gave a good indication that she might've orchestrated these events.
and all the Mother=Smoke Monster nudging is classic Darlton. Love it :lol
It sure is! She must have been some kind of special smoke monster that can be killed without uncorking the island first.

Blader5489 said:
So apparently, the outrigger shooters were MIB-Locke and Ben.
I...can't make sense of that right now. :lol
"Right now"? :lol

It sounds like throwing MIB in there is what screwed things up, and the cork was his way of repairing/maintaining the light.
If Jacob put the cork there in the first place (whuh?), why didn't he uncork the island long enough for the smoke monster to be killed? Too easy?

If true, that's a great answer to the outrigger shoot out.
C'mon, guys...

that black rock outrigger thing doesnt even make sense
Thank you!

Ben and Flocke makes sense.
Oh.
Even ignoring the fact there were obviously more than two people on that outrigger, it's going to be difficult to explain how those guys just opened fire at another outrigger for no apparent reason anyway...

Lost in a nutshell.

That last quote was inspired. You're welcome.

What a horrible video. How come we don't find out where the accordion came from or who taught him to play it??

Even if we found out those things, we still wouldn't know the make and model of the accordion, and I seriously doubt the guy playing it even knows anything about the rich history of the instrument. All I can deduct from this is that it's just a show and nothing more.

Ugh, hate how it's structured with absolutely no goal beyond making a show. So fucking stupid. The only reason I watched it was because I consider it a hobby of mine to dissect fictional universes.

:lol

Also, the music in that video was just too overbearing, trying to tell me how to feel about the scene rather than be some forgettable obscured tune in the background. Not even sure why they hired an accordion player, should have just been cars driving around in the background.

Why would they even show us the accordion if they didn't want to fuckin explain it, though? They're clearly making shit up as they go along.

I e-mailed the director of the video and he just told me that he wanted to make an amusing video about a guy in a polar bear suit playing a song on an accordion, that the type of instrument it was and where it came from and how many people owned it before the player is inconsequential in the grand scheme. He wanted it to be about the player, not the questions concerning the accordion. He said he guessed that people would be more concerned about the smaller things that don't really add up to much but that he was personally satisfied with the way it ended.

I just don't know why the guy was downtown weaing a bear suit and playing an accordion though, I think it's just too silly for me in the long run. I'd prefer it more, I think, if it were just a guy without a costume piddlin' on a guitar. Not really big on creativity.
