I Do and Whatever Happened, Happened are Kate's standouts. And yeah, her awesomeness was kicked up a shitload of notches in the last few episodes.

Three particular moments of Kate awesomeness:

Jack...we have to kill him.

Tell, me I'm going to see you again!

I missed you sooo much.

My eyes are kinda wet right now, no joke.
Great choices, especially the last one. More badass Kate-age I'd add to the list:

- It was not all misery!

- I'm going back... to find your daughter. (respect +100)

- I couldn't find you! (my god ;_;)

- They had a little girl y'know... Ji-Yeon.

Goddam Kate, you really turned it around those last couple of seasons. Can't help but love you now.

Speaking of What They Died For (but excluding Kate-talk)

The scene near the beginning of the episode, where Sawyer is standing on the beach, staring at the sea while debris from the submarine washes on the shore, with Departing Sun playing in the background...is one of my favorite scenes of the entire series. Damned if I can explain why, it's such a small bit, but it's burned into my memory.

Also love when Jack tells them they need to go get Desmond, then Sawyer picks up a rifle as the music quickly turns serious...so good.

Totally with you on that. Understated top-tier scene.

I still wish they went with a different theme for the box set. Most of the extras (other than the map I guess) don't excite me at all.

It wish they included something other than Senet in the set. I understand its significance (black and white pieces, Jacob/MIB), but I would much rather have something that was a little more connected to the early seasons. Preferably something hatch-related.

This is just making me madder at Amazonk for the epic botch.

MADDER. AND MADDER.

Are you in NY? I've heard about problems with their release day delivery there.

What you should've done was e-mail them this afternoon (when you noticed it hadn't shipped yet) and just bring it up. They would've upgraded your shipping to overnight, for free.

Just did.

Hatch clock thingy would have been cooler. I mean Senet kinda sucks..

I know Jacob/MIB but we didn't even get THAT much explanation about them to be honest, I kind of dislike how they were seemingly shoehorned into Season 6.. they needed some kind of explanation for everything and they went with that.

Sure we got a lot of cool shit out of it.. but eh.

I still LOVE the season 1,2,3,4,5 but season 6 after thinking about it.. I'm not that happy with it.

It was a fantastic call back to season 1. I love that theme because it's so... I'll try to explain it, it just feels like music that bookends a story. It works great as music at the beginning of something, and it works great as music at the end of something. If you'll notice, after season 1 that theme doesn't really ever show up again, at least not that prominently-- and when it showed up in What They Died For, they're all once again standing on the beach, but only the four of them left.

It's also very symbolic of staring out into a horizon, trying to figure out who you are and what you should be doing with yourself, I guess, I mean that's what I get out of it. So yeah, I think it stands out to you because it references that more innocent time back in season 1 when the survivors still had hope of being rescued, staring out into the ocean, hoping to spot a boat, or a plane, or anything to give them hope but this time, we're down to four main characters left, on the beach, after most of the story has been said and done, and now they have to finish whatever job they were brought there to finish.

It's a no-brainer why you love it, but at the same time the reasoning is pretty complex. Then again, I'm not sure why we should be talking about this considering there's a ton of Bear McCreary BSG music on Youtube.

Whole thing's finally out. To buy, or not to buy. I know I have to own it all eventually. Just trying to stomach the $229 CDN price tag. Cheapest I can find it is Future Shop/Best Buy. Talking about the Bluray set here of course, mind you.

I'm holding off buying the box-set until I'm ready to re-watch the series. It's way too early to jump back into LOST right now.
Word. I can wait.

oh and i'm broke.

Amazon is saying my order is being prepared for shipment. Hopefully it comes today.

I imagine the shipping process looking something like the opening of The End with Christian's coffin.

After much anticipation, you open the box set.

Nothing is there.

You turn around and it turns out it was in your Blu-Ray player the whole time.

Just picked up the complete collection blu ray. Overall, it's a pretty nice set. The design is all over the place, though.

- I like the outside 'monument' style packaging, I wish they had run with it through the whole set.

- The Egyptian box thing is actually alot more vibrant and nice looking in real life as opposed to the pictures/videos I've seen.

- Jacobs secret message on Ankh:
DVD menu controls something like << >> ^^ VV and a little set of hieroglyphics. I imagine it's something to do with the secret disc.

- The discs themselves are ugly as sin, most of them just look like they took some random shot from the show, and threw it on there with no cropping or design sense whatsoever. The sleeves they are in are nice though.

-Senet set didn't really do it for me, would have preferred something more to do with the survivors like a hatch clock or an oceanic themed thing or something.

- The page from the black rock I tried to read but it was so 'weathered' that I gave up. I'll just read a transcript online later :lol

So, I chickened out. Jacob would not be proud.

Basically, the gist of it: I have enough money to get the set, and I even have enough money to, you know, live on and that sort of thing. Problem is, I'm unemployed, so I've gotten incredibly stingy with the things I buy. I drove to Hastings this morning, my vehicle practically creating flames behind it, and they were just stocking the sets. In total they had six of them. Hell yes. I touch one. Oh my god. Then I look up at the price:

$209.99.

You know, I knew it was going to be roughly $200, in that ballpark. I knew that. And then I started to question it. How often will I actually watch it? When will I ever get around to rewatching the entire series? Sometime in the near future, absolutely-- just not really anytime relatively soon. The thing about that is that my girlfriend, being an incredibly intelligent person, gets tons of grants and scholarship money that is just hers to spend. And she wants the set just as much as I do. But this morning, when I dropped her off on campus, she made the point to me that if I held off on buying the set, we would have a lot more money to work around with financially, and at the beginning of next semester she's getting a shitload of financial aid money that she can pretty much do whatever she wants to with it. She said it might be smarter to wait until then, but that I could still go get it if I really wanted it, that we could probably "manage."

Of course, I really wanted it and wasn't thinking straight so I drove like hell to the store anyway with every intention of buying it but when I actually got there and saw the price, I kept running figures through my head about how much money we'd have left, and again, we have plenty left, but where I've been unable to find a job, it's been pretty tight for a good year or so now, and living like that can really suck. I also recalled reading on the blu-ray.com forums about how there's likely to be another complete set coming sometime (no idea where they got that from, just saying) so all this combined just simply kept me from buying it.

I'm still likely to go ahead and buy the final season on Blu-ray today just to hold me over, but the price of the set, though a great deal all things considered, was just too intimidating for me at the moment. If, when she gets her money at the beginning of next year (which isn't that far) and it's not looking like there'll be a better offer, I'll likely take the plunge but for now I'm guessing it will likely be smarter to hold off on that big a purchase. Not to mention I'm reading that the designs aren't that great on the discs and such (the poster above, and on other forums) and that's kind of a turnoff too.

Damn you economy!

The bonus disc includes:

Lost on location: Sundown and Dr. Linus
Chicken Heaven: a feature with Jorge on Mr.Clucks
Sayid vs Dogan: behind the scenes look at the fight between them

One thing I do want to know is how the Jack vs. MIB battle is edited without the horrible commercial break.

They put an ad in for Ajira airlines just to spite you.

Across the Sea commentary is very good. Tons of predictable humorous banter between Lindelcuse but they do talk about some stuff.

*when Claudia is washing up on shore, they're talking about how polarizing the episode was and how Claudia just jumped the shark
*they brought up the theory of Mother being a smoke monster and how they don't want to answer that because they feel that it allows for good debate, but the fact that they even mention it is sort of telling
*the island seemingly has a circulatory system, the mix of the light and water flow, and that there is obviously a heart
*that Mother's treatment of Jacob and MIB is what starts the chain of events that leads Jacob into bringing Oceanic 815 to the island (kinda duh but nice to hear them talk about it)
*talking about how Jacob did NOT have a choice in becoming protector, discussing fate vs. free will
*felt the episode illuminates Jacob's decisions throughout the show, how he enlisted Ben as a conduit between himself and the people on the island because he didn't want to be directly involved with them in the same way he didn't want to be involved with the "others" in this episode
*when Claudia washes up on shore Mother is already planning her demise, she doesn't want the job anymore
*she originally intended for MIB to be protector, but with Jacob (and Damon uses this word) she "cons" him into being protector like something Sawyer would do, they were conned into relieving her of the job
*the time of being protected varies between person to person
*they're talking about the ravaged village, how there's "tons of smoke" around, Carlton says "where there's fire there's smoke..." and Damon says "I'm saying, Allison Janney vs. 20 armed men... especially in daylight..."
*MIB is just as much of a victim of Mother's actions as Jacob
*Damon confirms that the "cork" apparatus wasn't created until AFTER Jacob throws MIB into the cave; that the light in this episode is brighter because there is no man-made structure blocking it
*Damon talks about how people wondered how far back they knew who the Adam and Eve skeletons were, he said that in the episode House of the Rising Sun that they knew that the skeletons would be the characters who are responsible for the crash of Oceanic 815

Thanks for the rundown, brandon!

*she originally intended for MIB to be protector, but with Jacob (and Damon uses this word) she "cons" him into being protector like something Sawyer would do, they were conned into relieving her of the job
That's what I figured. The "thank you" after MiB stabs her gave a good indication that she might've orchestrated these events.

and all the Mother=Smoke Monster nudging is classic Darlton. Love it :lol

*Damon confirms that the "cork" apparatus wasn't created until AFTER Jacob throws MIB into the cave; that the light in this episode is brighter because there is no man-made structure blocking it
Woah. WOAH.

So Jacob is given the job to make sure no enters the cave, and the first thing he does is send people with a cork down there? :lol

Sorry if this has been asked before, but is a similar version to this awesome boxset coming to the UK? or are we stuck with the basic one?

Without the cork, what was making the light? Did Jacob try to "fix" the light, break it, then fix it with the cork? I guess that sounds about right for his usual level of efficacy.

It sounds like throwing MIB in there is what screwed things up, and the cork was his way of repairing/maintaining the light.

Makes sense. The fact that Jacob was able to put it in place might also explain Jack's relative invincibility against the light at the end of The End.

So the cork was basically the Island's first band-aid, like Jughead.
