You must have missed out on the BSG vs. LOST wars.

I hope you mean the old 70's Battlestar Galactica.

Because that's the only way it would make any logical sense (and Giacchino would still win, of course).

Season 5 had the best sound track.

Season 5 was Giacchino on autopilot. There was, what, two new themes that whole year (Jacob and LaFleur)? Hopefully he's learnt not to fill his schedule with so many projects at once.

For S5, it took until the 6th, 7th, or 8th episode to really start digging it. 316, or Life and Death?

I was the opposite.

I loved the first half of the season with the
time skips
but really couldn't be bothered with the
DHARMA
narrative in the second half. I did enjoy the season finale, though it was still the worst out of all six i'd say.

As one that loved Lost until probably halfway through the last season, and is just now watching Moore's BSG (I have like three episodes left of the show to watch), I have to say I think BSG wins that war. I'm prepared to be stoned now.

We'll see tonight when I finish it - though I think I'm completely spoiled on the BSG ending anyway so I sort of doubt there are any surprises in store for me. I have to say I don't get what appears to be the rampant hatred for the show's final season, I'm rather enjoying it.

You of the creepy-how-much-you-remember-of-what-people-post mind should recall that time travel is far from the only problem I had with that season.

Yeah I know

Locke is dead and is a pawn

Lets be honest thats the biggest reason why you rate S5 and 6 the lowest.

and on the subject of me remembering too much, but I remember(weve discussed this b4 i think) that you were saying plenty of episodes were great when you first watched them, but changed your mind.

nawww you're just an apologist.

Seriously though, there much less of the funny in s4

The reason I love lost as much as i do and can rewatch as much as i can is because of the humour. Its one of the funniest shows ive ever seen :lol

What.
I fucking love Lost. And it has humor. But I can think of 3 other DRAMAS that are funnier than it off the top of my head. Breaking Bad, Terriers, The Shield. Not to mention the dozens if not hundreds of comedies that make me laugh more than Lost.

Well i disagree. There are 100s of different moments in lost that make me laugh personally.

Where as BB has rarely ever made me laugh lol

I loved season 5....

Different strokes, I guess.

I bought the season 6 Blu Ray...d'oh!

I'll have all 6 Blu-rays AND the collection now.

AWesome.

Loved me some Season 5. I thought there were some weird structural and editing decisions throughout the season, especially with 316 & Bentham. It was as if they tried to recreat the magic of S4 where they would begin with the reveal and cleverly catch us up, but it didn't work as well. Still, two great episodes, though. And the season definitely flows better if you watch Bentham first, which was the original order.

BB is like 50% dark comedy, it's definitely serious stuff but some of the stuff Walt and Jesse do, like
dissolve a body through a floor or chase a fly
is hilarious :lol

oatmeal you're crazy :lol I get collecting things but why not just sell the single sets?!
I liked season 5. Wasn't my favorite though.

I don't have the full collection yet, getting it for Christmas.

So I'd like to see some more of the extras before then....I've been craving it since the release, and wasn't going to buy it until it dropped to half price. Can't argue with that.

phew, I was beginning to worry you wouldn't catch that. But nope, you came through like a pro.

I enjoyed Season 5 well enough. Felt a little aimless at times, but I'd rather watch that over Season 2 any day.

You have no idea how similar the endings are :lol You will know in 3 episodes, though......
BSG won the war, I'm afraid. I think I could sit down and watch the whole series over again tomorrow - the whole wrap up of that show was thrilling.

With Lost, I'm good through the S5 finale but I'm dreading watching the final season again. I haven't even bought the blu-ray set yet to go with the rest.

Did you watch lost in one big go like BSG?

or did you watch over a few years?

Don't understand the hate for Season 5, I loved it until the finale, which I hated :/

So you like S5 and S6 but you hate the finale of both?

I think you might have a problem letting hype getting the better of you or something.

The finales are the culmination of everything great about the season.

I think like S6, S5 needs to be rewatched to fully appreciate. Like Locke dying to save everyone or getting the oceanic 6 back to save the island, seems silly when first watching. But it makes sense in hindsight.

S5 of Lost was absolute shite. Hated the whole "Life at Dharma intiative in the 70s". What a waste of time.

S6 has some good episodes, along with a reasonably good finale, but overall wasn't close to the greatness of the first 4 seasons.

I think the first 8 episodes of S5 is pretty good.

1-4 good, but nothing special.

5-8 is a really great run of episodes.

Especially Life and Death. Thats amazing on rewatch.

Dead is Dead is another classic ben episode

dm gets it. Spot on, man. LOST is one of my favorites shows ever, but thats exactly my feelings on it half a year after it ended - that it was amazing up to and including S4, but went off the rails in the final two seasons, albeit with lots of great moments and episodes still sprinkled throughout.

I can't remember if I ever got an answer to this - are the Blu-Rays in the big collection region free?
On my boxset(UK) season 4 is locked for some unknown reason :(

The US one is locked also, thats why i needed to wait & pay more for the UK one

Cmon!

S6 owns.

LA X is the best first 2 episodes since the pilot.

The substitute is worthy episode to a long list of brilliant locke episodes.

The ligthouse isnt Jacks best but its a really great character study for him and Hurley has tons of funny moments.

Sundown is Sayids best centric. The last 10 minutes is some of the most epic moments you have ever seen on lost.

Dr Linus is brilliant but very different from other ben centrics. A wonderful redemption episode.

Ab Aeterno. God damn if there was one episode that i would give the word epic to, this is it. Its frankly the greatest 1 hour episode of the whole show as far as im concerned.

Happily Ever After is the desmond episode we waited so long for and it totally delivered.

The Candidate is a fantastic all round with some incredible moments.

Across the Sea. I dont care what anyone says. This is the most fascinating episode of the whole show.

What they died for is awesome, probably the ultimate episode to air before a finale along with Greatest Hits and Cabin Fever.

The End. Easily the greatest episode of the show.

S6 FTW!

Everybody Loves hugo and The last recruit are both solid episodes aswell.

Recon and The package are pretty slow but enjoyable episodes.

Wow you're me. LOST was by far my favorite show, up until the Season 6 premiere. I had rebought the entire series in Blu-Ray and rewatched it in anticipation of Season 6. Now? I'm not buying season 6, period. It doesn't mesh with the show at all. And yes, I did care about the "story". I hypothesized to no end after season 5, including in the LOST thread. What a waste that was.

I hated the BSG ending at the time, but it has felt rewatchable now. I am currently in the process of rewatching the show.

I saw BSG as a very good show, but I never got what people loved about, much less how they could put it over Lost. The characters all felt less like people and more like representatives for a general idea (law, order, military, politics, science, etc). Could never really connect with that. Also don't really see why they keep coming up in the same discussion, as they're only really linked by being ensemble sci-fi shows airing in the same time. They never really seemed that alike to me. Then again, Lost comes up in The Walking Dead thread for no reason just about any time somebody takes a breath, so what do I know about comparisons.:lol

BSG was a weird beast when it was on the air.

Sci-Fi was airing seasons over 2 years, tons of waiting, and when it finally did end, everyone was like "WTF
ANGELS?
"

But, when I got the full Blu Collection, and watched it start to finish, knowing how it ended, all the little hints were there; things made more sense and I was much much less angry with how it ended.

In fact, being able to watch it all at once (especially the final season), made me really enjoy the ending for what it was. BSG ended great, in hindsight; but when you're watching it week to week, man did it piss people off.

LOST is similar in that regard. I started watching LOST in season 2.. I watched the entirety of Season 1 over a weekend (yes, it was that addicting), and ever since it was the week to week / season to season nightmare of tearing out your hair trying to figure out why the statue had four fucking toes.

But now, in hindsight, being able to watch the series over the course of a week/two weeks back to back to back, with all that knowledge fresh in your head, LOST stands up very VERY well. Yes, a few plot points got glossed over towards the end, for the pure reason of 'ending' the show, but it still holds up well. The message of
unity and needing each other
is there from the get-go.

It's crazy how enraging a show can be when you have to wait for what's next.. but once you eliminate the cliffhangers, the experience is just that much greater.

I realised something yesterday, I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from watching Season 6.
"You've seen all you need to see, you're not going to be satisfied, make up your own resolution in your head".

I don't know what the discussion was like around the BSG finale or why some dislike it. To me, it seems to follow fairly logically and satisfyingly from everything that came before it with everything rooted back sometimes as far as season 1.

It has issues like every show does, but they are not nearly of the magnitude of Lost's final season issues.

Ultimately, with Lost I think I simply parted ways with the writers in what I thought would have made the mythology interesting. I know, cue "it's about the characters" apologists, but the characters were never bad aside from more frequently acting stupid than anyone in BSG. I could watch Ben, Locke, Sawyer, and Juliette all day long. In the end the show ended up a character drama with a poorly plotted sci-fi-ish backdrop that revolved around a character that we know for one season and isn't particularly likable.

*sigh* Guess I'll finally start BGS. Hope it's still worth it, even though the internet has kinda spoiled me on a few things already.

No, S6 is probably my least favorite season. It has some great episodes, but it didn't start getting good IMO until after the 8th episode or so, and the entire sideways scenes mean very little to me. So about 75% of the season is throwaway as far as I'm concerned.

ivysaur12 don't read below if you haven't finished S5.

I loved the time travel business in S5 and I loved the Dharma part (La Fleur!)... my beef with the finale was how the characters trying to stop jack flipped 180 degrees at the last minute. I didn't find it convincing, and then Juliet surviving that fall added insult to injury.

In retrospect, I don't think I would be as harsh on the finale if I watched it now, because knowing that the losties caused The Incident is awesome. But that wasn't clear or confirmed back then.

is there anyone who watched the entire series for the first time all in succession and still hated season 6 and the end? for example, i never watched it live on tv. over a couple months i watched the entire 6 seasons for the first time and i finished the last episode a few days after it aired.

i actually didn't think season 6 was shitty at all. seasons 1, 3, 4 and 5 were my favourites and season 6 was really slow starting but i thought the ending was great. overall, i thought the first 2 seasons of LOST were much slower paced than the final seasons and were harder to get into. at least shit was happening in season 6 and there was some intensity in the plot. season 1 and 2 were like "OHH MY GODDDD COME ONNNN SOMETHING HAPPEN YOU'VE BEEN
FUCKING WITH THE HATCH FOR SO FUCKING LONG AND NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT
.
