This thread should be for discussion. Opinions both negative and positive should be valid. Instead, the die hard Lost fans ridicule anyone with a dissenting opinion. I've been on the same side of that debate as Erigu and Lost was my favorite show on TV for a few years.

Im personally still on both sides of the debate. Until recently really. I absolutely hated season 6 and thought it was a giant waste of time. I got it for Christmas by mistake. My mom makes it a point to buy each season for me and I forgot to tell her I didnt want it. I tried to watch it during the storm but couldnt get pass the second episode. It was so depressing especially because of the gesture.

Season 5 Im indifferent about.

So instead of debating and questioning myself I just say it was the greatest 4 seasons of tv I've ever experienced. :lol

Go through the thread and find the last time Erigu actually posted something that wasn't just a snide remark about either a poster in this thread, or about the writers.

He has stopped posting arguments for a long time.

Dissenters are fine, we know that not everyone likes the show...but Erigu is one of the top 3 posters in this thread, and I'd say 75% of his posts are calling Darlton names. If that's not pathetic, I don't know what is.

Put another way, have any of us complained about you being in the thread? I don't think so. The only time I was a little wary of your presence was when you called me a 'f*ggot', saying that's what Erigu posted in a message I didn't read because I had blocked him.

His aspergers-like 'NEED TO WIN ON THE INTERNET' is one of the saddest things I've ever seen. I've never seen someone like that on these forums.

I agree that if someone has a negative opinion that cannot lead to someone who disagrees being able to construct it into worthwhile debate, that it should just be left alone.

I've sort of been doing this and it has worked for me. I don't have a problem with people not liking the show, but I wish that the individuals on the opposite end would feel the same about those who do like it.

Point being, both sides have dealt the douche card on more than one occasion; all I want to do is talk about the story sometimes and yes, it is usually directed toward those who liked it because they're more willing to hear out my logic and what I have to say.

Let's face it, the haters immediately go into a post with a negative point of view before they read a single word, but the... likers? do the same with the haters' posts. It's just human nature I guess.

Plot holes and badly written aspects of the story aside, I do feel that it's a great story, one that ended well, and one that will always be, for me, very much up for discussion.
 
More on topic, my entire family has converted to LOSTaholics. Me and my older sister were the only ones who watched it while it was on (I got my sister into it, too) and once it ended, I pressured my brother into watching it. He fell in love almost immediately, and he's not easy to please. My younger sister jumped on board right before him, and when they were both done, we all pressured my parents.

My parents now have a new favorite show, they've watched the finale no less than 5 times since finishing in October. We all have the Blu Ray sets now, we all have the encyclopedia now...

My dad, who used to talk non-stop about Mad Men, even claims he likes it more than that...which we never thought would happen.

So even though the show is horribly written and makes no sense, it still has the power to attract people. Strange that.

There's nothing wrong with a negative opinion if it can be backed up. So far, I've seen Erigu be right sometimes and wrong more often than not, but to hear it from him you would think he was the only one who ever watched the show and it was only possible for him to be right about it. There's a difference between holding a negative opinion and trolling, and almost any time since the show has ended and someone attempted to express a positive opinion about it, Erigu's been there to shit all over it. For what purpose? To what end? All I can tell is that he wants attention so desperately, he has to force himself upon people constantly and abrasively to get it, like a child. I know the posters who don't appreciate Lost are, they chime in here every once in a while to give a thumbs up to Erigu. But fuck, they support him and they're still not willing to put anymore effort than that into it. Many people don't love Avatar for many apparent reasons, but I don't constantly go into the thread everytime it gets bumped to remind everyone what doesn't work about it, despite how easy it is to do. Courtesy, respect, and also a certain joy in not discussing something that makes me sound like a miserable shit are all perfectly good reasons to not continuously remind people over and over I don't like something. Erigu is beyond those things, for whatever reason, and I'd prefer it if we'd ignored him from now on and made this thread about discussing Lost again.

Hey, I'm trying to discuss Lost. I'm explaining my misgivings with the writing and the producers.
Who's derailing that again and again by making it about me instead of coming up with counter-arguments (or simply ignoring me, indeed)? Who's talking at lengths about how I'm a trolling asshole without a life?
Seriously, now.

For example, could you react to the Lindelof/Cuse quotes I posted there, instead of focusing on the fact I was the one posting those? I'd prefer the former (curiously enough for an attention whore)...

Wow, this recent spate pushed Erigu up in to the #2 slot of biggest contributors to the thread. It really is close to a two man battle now.
 
Basically...

If Erigu is removed from this thread, does it make it better or worse? I'd say 100x better. You lose that 'me me me' voice in the crowd always trying to sway the attention to himself and what he believes is to be his witty banter.

Erigu is more vocal about his hatred for the show than even the most ardent LOST supporter is...

He should stick to threads about stories of a post modern game of musical chairs. Seems to be more his speed.

You're missing the point that you're advocating censorship, no matter how comfortable it might make the surroundings. Just because you disagree with his opinions and/or way of stating them (which, really, who doesn't), instead of countering them with reason, you'd rather eliminate them completely. That strikes me as lazy and totalitarian. I'd much rather keep reminding everyone that he's a bully and shouldn't be taken seriously. It's kind of like advocating life in prison instead of the death penalty.

No, I have no problem with people disagreeing with me. I never said I did... I welcomed Erigu in initially when he would actually have arguments, go back and look. I was one of his only supporters...it was when he turned it up and kept pressing everyones buttons that I stopped.

There have always been people who don't like LOST posting in here, and that's great.

Solo during the season 5 days was never as annoying as Erigu was and Solo is someone who has a way of making himself important in threads.

It has nothing to do with the content, it's the way he goes about it. Why would bother engaging in an argument with him, when no matter what you say, he won't stop twisting things until he feels he's right?

Because, as I have said many times, I think you're a smart guy and a good poster. But you carry yourself in a way that makes you impossible to have a conversation with.
 
One of my friends keeps warning me to stop watching Lost after season 4, telling me that season 5 is horrible. Should I keep watching the show, i.e. is there a significant payoff, with mysteries solved, questions answered, etc... Basically, does Lost suffer a big drop off in quality after season 4?

If you're in for the pay-off (answers), I think you're in trouble... Hopefully, even the Lost supporters will agree with me on that one.
As for a drop off in quality after season 4... Yeah, I guess. The writers kinda had a plan, in that season (for a change); they really had to end the season in a particular place, and that gave it focus. After that...
 
I got the Blu-ray set for Christmas and I cant wait to re-watch the first 5 seasons. To the person asking if you should watch after season 4, I would say definitely watch season 5, even though they dont really explain everything that happened in season 5, it is still a great season. I would say dont watch 6, it is so bad and it really does cheapen a lot of what comes before it.

Watch all 6 seasons.
 
If you're going to watch the show, you might as well watch the whole thing. Even if you wind up on the side that doesn't like the ending, surely it's better than having no ending at all.

Disagree. as I stated before season 6 underlines what the series has been about the whole time.

From the very first scene in season 6, you're befuddled.. I remember everyone trying to figure out what this whole new off-island flash was.. just as you would expect as an (by this time) avid LOST watcher. it has some of the best and also wackiest episodes of the entire run, but after you've wiped away the last tear at the end of the finale you'll realize how they all tie together.

If you've enjoyed LOST for the characters, the drama, and the constant mystery.. then season 6 is full of win. For me at least, "The End" was ridiculously epic.

EDIT: Oh, yeah.. and I don't even know how this decision (to watch 6 or not) is possible after watching how season 5 ends. No way you don't pop in that next disc to found out what happens. No way.

In otter news. I have been contemplating what kind of LOST tattoo to get. I know I want one, but I have many ideas. I just need to get some time to start sketching out some of my ideas and going through my favorite quotes.

6 is frustrating because it's sufficiently serviceable, but the season doesn't really deliver the final chapters that the show deserved.

The End was great and remedied some of these issues, even if it created a few of its own.

The problem with season 6 is, is that you have to rewatch to be able to appreciate the stroytelling being done there.

Which isnt a problem for me at all, because i love to rewatch.

Its a bold move by Darlton to do something thats gonna generate alot of hate because of it, but then again lost has always been a bold show.

They really made season 6 for the biggest fans no doubt.

It seems to me that if the show doesn't show it, for whatever reason, then it's bad storytelling. You've been doing this for months now...and it's never made any sense. Name one show where every single thing ever mentioned is expounded upon.

Show the complete backstory of Gray Matter in Breaking Bad, show Sterling Cooper initial rise to the top of the ad game...No. It doesn't matter to the characters, they have their own story to tell.

But, of course, you don't quite get that.

If only everything were about musical chairs.
