No sane person would trash all that easy money.

He's just fucking with us.

...right?

I still can't find a better show on TV. I've watched it from beginning to end twice, and every time I read about it I keep wanting to watch it over again from the beginning.

S5 is my least favourite episode on the run, but rewatching it with the gf and it's a lot better than I remember. The time flashes are awesome and the Oceanic 6 lark isn't as bad as I remembered. Still all the DHARMA stuff to go through though :(

I guess a lot of it is the ability to watch multiple episodes a day instead of wait years. Definitely helps the bad bits seem more bearable.

Chances are you're not trying all that hard, then...

If you replace the word "bettter" in Carfo's post with "enjoyable" then I'd agree with him. There are a lot of great shows on TV today, but none that made me anticipate sitting down in front of the TV on a weekly basis as much as LOST did. I scheduled my life around the show, that's how much I loved watching it. I would talk to friends about it the day afterward, people at work would discuss it in depth. No show today has that kind of impact in my life. The only show I watch religiously and never miss right now is Supernatural, but I feel like I'm one of the few people in the world who watch it, lol. LOST was a social event every week.

I wish another show would come along that had that kind of appeal like LOST did, a show that had that thing that made people talk about it with eagerness. It was fun and I'm glad I got to experience it.

That's entirely understandable, yes. The show certainly was successful.

I haven't found it yet. i'm sure (I know) that the wire, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, etc. are better written, acted whatever. there are always better things. but Lost does not fall behind any of those shows. it always made you want more and made you want to se emore of the characters. you needed Lost in your life, if you didn't have it, you felt... lost.

Good post, thinking about it this is how I feel too. Lost has its share of problems and isn't the best TV series that I ever watched, but it was definitely the most entertaining on a macro scale. All my friends would anticipate the episodes, everyone watched it, talked about it, we created random irl jokes, watched season finales together. It was great to experience it through the years and there isn't much of a chance for something else to match it for me as everyone is in a different place now with their lives. It left a mark.

So..what's up with the hairstyle.

My girlfriend watched Matthew Fox on Ellen yesterday and suddenly wanted to try watching LOST. I'm still not sure how I feel about it, but hell, it gives me another shot to watch the series so I'm pretty stoked in that respect.

So I'm in the middle of my first ever rewatch since watching it on TV. Just finished season 2. Some thoughts:

- I know 'oh it's a character show, so they didn't need to answer all the mysteries' sounds like a cop out answer, but watching the show again you really see how close to the truth that is. That's not to say they couldn't have resolved some of the mysteries better, because they clearly could have, but those first two seasons are just so character focused, it's weird that people who were obsessed with the mysteries kept watching after that. It was like a 90/10 split.

- Eko is a boss. So annoyed he didn't stick around.

- Charlie's heel turn in season 2 is really annoying. He just becomes a really unlike-able character. I know he redeems himself, but his motivations all through season 2 are all over the place. Also, when the damn hatch blows up his refusal to tell anyone what happened was dumb. That whole scene in the season 2 finally where he just comes and sits next to Claire and is all "lol not much happened you know".

- Locke in season 2 was great. His arc from a really self-confident guy to watching him lose all his faith was really well done.

- Ana-Lucia wasn't as annoying as I remember.

I seem to remember the first half of season 3 being really slow, so I need to push through that so I can get to "WE HAVE TO GO BACK"

It is. The main characters are captured and stand around breaking goddamn rocks.

Probably because it is! ^^

Well... yeah, but more importantly, they could ("should", really) have done a better job at preparing/planting mysteries. Coming up with all kinds of random supernatural phenomenons just to hook the audience and without knowing where you're going with those or how they could be tied together is a great way to paint yourself in a corner.

but those first two seasons are just so character focused, it's weird that people who were obsessed with the mysteries kept watching after that. It was like a 90/10 split.
(Wouldn't that make it even more of a shame that the writers couldn't come up with a coherent mythology? ;þ)

As long as the show only had the clueless survivors (plus Crazy Rousseau, but she was conveniently craaaaaazy) for characters, yeah, a fair portion of the drama was relatively disconnected from the mythology. But once mysterious-characters-who-act-like-they-know-what's-going-on (*) began to heavily factor in the equation...

(* Until it's revealed that they actually were clueless chumps all along. The mystery baton is then passed on to a new set of Mysterious Characters, and they all turn out to be freaking idiots who never made sense, down to the two guys who started it all (
Lindelof and Cuse
).)

And then, I'd argue that the characters' arcs were terrible anyway. You mentioned Charlie, but it doesn't stop there, far from it. For example...

- Locke in season 2 was great. His arc from a really self-confident guy to watching him lose all his faith was really well done.
Why did he decide to believe that second film over the first one? Did he just forget about all the clearly supernatural stuff he witnessed/experienced? The monster? His prophetic dream? His magical legs?

To be fair to Eko, he kind of killed off his own character.

But I like your second runthrough impressions :)

I've been re-watching with my gf (her first run through) and I'm enjoying it. We are halfway through Season 3. And man, Exposé is still far and away the worst episode of the series.

It was the best episode considering those characters were terrible.
