Well we know that the up coming episode and
Across the Seas
will be mostly, if not all, Island mythology, dealing very little with the LOSTIES. So I'm sure some things like the the Statue, the FDW, the Lightouse, etc.. will be addressed, though, I wouldn't expect fully fleshed out explanations. And I really wouldn't prefer any.

Mysterious Island is Mysterious. Honestly, I have no problem accepting that. In fact I hope they leave some things vague or unanswered as we travel into the forever without LOST.

The point is some things are inexplicable. The Lighthouse being one of them, and the Donkey Wheel being another. They can tell us what purpose they serve, and how long they've been there, but they can never tell us HOW they could exist.

They don't have to "explain" them, necessarily, but I think we should see their origins. That would in effect be an explanation. As in, why did someone build the Lighthouse in that precise spot? The Temple gleans its powers from the healing spring, which has likely always been an island fixture, and they built the temple around it.

I imagine it's the exact same thing with the donkey wheel and the lighthouse. They were built around existing sources of power. They can and should simply give us their origins, but not explain why those powers exist. It's a magical island, etc.

They've clearly veered far away from their original "pseudo-science" ambitions, though Jorge Garcia in one of his podcasts said someone told him that the smoke monster answer is somehow applicable to real life. I don't see how that's possible unless it's futuristic tech, like nanobots, which they've denied many times.

Same here, I'm not part of the ANSWERS Brigade, remember?

I never demanded an exact explanation for most of these things. I don't think many people do.

geez, it's like there's no middle ground with you guys, sometimes. :lol

edit- Zeliard gets it.

Tried to show Lost to my brother, he stopped watching when the time travel aspect was introduced "With time travel, they can just pin anything on that and say, look! It's because of time travel!" Is what he said.

I told him the only thing the time traveling had explained was the incident and it actually gave us more questions. Told him to watch the final season to at least get closure, he refused.

why are some people stupid :(

:lol My mom did the same at season 5. She was really digging it beforehand too. Seems a lot of folks drew a hard line when the time travel switch was flipped, on principle alone.

I don't like to bring up the dead but....

SOLO

It astonishes me that people draw the fantasy line at time travel. Especially when you consider that there have been little bits of foreshadowing all the way back in the first season (like the radio playing old time music and Hurley commenting it might not be "where but when" its coming from) or all the stuff with Desmond time-tripping all over the place before Season 5.

Anyway.. next episode looks good. Finally we might get a clue and actually have some interest into how things pan out on the island.

Two players, two sides; one is light, one is dark. Walt, do you want to know a secret?

You gotta wonder, how far ahead were they planning this shit.

Idea of conflict on the island between two big parties? I can believe that was there from the start.

Smokey being one of them? Not so sure, possible.

Specifics of names and "influence", probably not.

Maybe I'm just reading into it too much, but damn if it isn't impressive foreshadowing, especially having had Locke say it.

Also now rewatching the first season, this show used to be fucking creepy. Even knowing what we do 6 seasons later, still creepy as hell. It feels like it's lost that mystique of a hidden place harboring a secret both awesome and terrible, something that's still there when rewatching older seasons.

Heh, i never felt that was a indication that they planned the series out from the beginning. Rather, it shows how consistent the show has been, in regards to it's themes of duality.

I don't think that's where anyone is drawing the fantasy line. Time travel falls fairly snuggly into pseudo-science. I personally drew that line at such things like a healing spring and a clairvoyant lighthouse.

you said it, brother. lol

It'd be funny if they gave her an entirely fake script, knowing the actress can't keep her mouth shut :lol

Yea, something about this leans on the side of bullshit to me. They just finished the script like, yesterday. Her character is a big one, i suppose, but she seems like a very excitable person.

If she gave any details at all about what her character actually meant, I wouldn't have even posted it, but she's so impossibly vague about shit, it could mean anything. If you guys want me to take it down, I'll do it.

Damon Lindelof said filming on the finale begins today, but they haven't finished the final script yet, only drafts.

But no, assuming its completely real, that is a massive spoiler. Geez. Also, why would she have saw it but not read it? And wouldn't they all have to sign NDA's to get access to scripts?

Honestly, I'd actually be surprised if all of the actors get the entire script. I'd figure they might only limit it to that actors scenes.

so do you guys think the spoiler is stupid? or are you just mad you read it? Sheila Kelly is such an awful actress. I was cringing last week when she was on screen.

Yes. Hoping it's her spewing misdirection. Something seemed off with her, and now after researching who she is, I'm kinda pissed.

Alright, sorry, taken down. i figure spoiler tagging pertinent info would be enough, but I guess saying she was important was too big of a spoiler for this thread. my bad.

All of the above.

uhh...what the fuck is going on?
This random character...

She's the new Juliet? ( In terms of GAF hate)

honestly though, something seem off about the whole thing. Random episode, random character, half way through the season, shit is all weird about those responses.

didn't expect all of Lost-GAF's major players to be here in a jiffy, either.:lol Reminds me, Is Blader permabanned? :-/

This article was especially weird since it was all over my usual (Vulture/Gawker) media sources (I never browse any darkufo shit). i wouldn't be surprise if this chick got Caesar'd next ep just to fuck us up.:lol

Generally, I think this thread is just about being able to discuss LOST knowing episode titles/centricities without looking like a redacted Pentagon report. The rules that some people impose in the main threads strangulate reasonable conversation (like not being able to openly discuss that it is a Richard episode this week).

I'm also leaning to there being something fishy about that interview. I'll be very surprised if she's anything more than a C/D character at most.

The Island...it calls to us.

Right right. i figured cast interviews were kosher for this thread while being vague, but i guess this woman was...a tad too much.

How did she get an interview anyways? Do the actors call the magazines or is it vice versa? Why would a magazine want to interview an insignificant character like her?

It's all good, Speeding.

This chick should shut the fuck up though. seriously

yeah, the whole thing's so odd

I think I heard an answer that solves wtf she was trying to say. It's not a spoiler, but since the article is hidden, I'll tag it
Jorge Garcia is already on record that finale scripts, the actors are only given the pages they are in. So they are literally on every page that they see. Because they don't have the scenes they are not in.

Then she seems dumber than previously thought.:lol I'm a little less worried now.
