This weekend I saw the new movie Lovers (Japanese title) Chinese title is Shi Mian Mai Fu, or House of Flying Daggers. Quick overview: It's a pseudo sequel to Hero although it's really not at all, just made by the same production crew. The leads are Kaneshiro Takeshi, movies such as The Returner and played Samanosuke in Onimusha 1 and 3, and Ziyi Zhang of Hero.
First off Kaneshiro = 100x better actor than Jet Li at least he has some expression when he speaks, and a fairly decent screen presence. Story was great although I must admit since the movie was in Mandarin and subtitles in Japanese I found some parts of the dialogue difficult to follow. Yes it's heavy on love story (like Hero don't going in for 100% action), but the action that is in the movie (a fair amount btw) is damn impressive. The fighting scene in the bamboo forest freaking rocks, think Bushido Blade + Ninja Scroll elements and that's barely scratching it. For those overly jaded by the use of wire-fu in movies, just pass on this movie...that way we don't have to hear you bitch on these forums later
As expected Lovers had the beautiful scenary, music, and atmosphere, overall a very nice film, worth checking out.
