Every time this bumps I refresh Amazon in anticipation.
Yep, been waiting for physical Switch version to pop up. Might even get both Switch and PS5 copies.

Love these games and I have the nice Working Designs editions for PS1 (let’s not talk about translation 😉) as well as SEGA CD, and the Japanese Saturn versions.

I might be a bit of a fan for these. Lunar, Grandia and Phantasy Star IV were some of my favorite RPGs of that era.

Speaking of which. Hey SEGA, where is my Phantasy Star IV 2D-HD Remake!? 🧐

I don't have Saturn, but right there with you. Have SCD and PSX copies - and will still probably double dip here. But Switch for absolute sure. Whenever there's no effective difference in a multiplatform title - it's easily Switch, no question.

No kidding.. lots of companies sleeping at the wheel - many games I'd love to see, Phantasy Star included!

Fighting through the darkness,
All is evil, yet we must press on.
Friendship forged in battle,
Watch your back now, take heed.

That used to be awesome to me. Now, I see it as incredibly corny, lazily translated.

Hopefully, the actual games are how I remembered them, because I loved these on Sega CD.

So how are the translations on these games? Accurate or meme-level?

The assumption is that this will be a retranslation because they don't own the rights to the previous one. The remake on PSP in 2010 had an accurate translation. New voice actors have already been confirmed.

Hasn't it been confirmed that it won't go up for order until the day of?

For those that have played both, how does Eternal Blue compare to the first game? I only played Silver Star Story, while very good, I didn’t love it.

Are the Sega CD versions worth playing over the remakes? Or are they very grindy and not translated well ?

They have different music. The Sega CD version is also older. So some more antiquated gameplay elements.

Complete also added more scenes. Both have inaccurate translations and are full of pop culture references.

I liked the first game a lot more than the second (mainly due to characters and story). There are those who feel the opposite, but regardless both games are similar in a lot of ways.

Note that there is also “UnWorking Designs” patch for PSX as well as translation patch for the Saturn.

Both of these are better way to play the game since they take out the extra difficulty Working Designs put in for no reason, which forces early to mid game grinding.

And the iOS version is also pretty decent.

Last time I tried to play Lunar 1 on Sega CD the battle frequency really killed me, I didn’t make it far.

It does have a kickass OST that blows away the remake, so at least give it a listen. Hopefully we can mod this into the new remake:

The MPEG version of the game which requires the saturn VCD card gives you a better cutscene experience than even the PS1 version - (which was all the PS1 version has superior to the saturn)
If you use the fan english translation patch- what you get is the game in its japanese form without the working design changes and with improved cutscenes- which are a big thing in that game honestly.
Issue is you need a saturn and an MPEG card. I happen to have a couple such setups- but its not something people just have kicking around. If Saturn had come with that card from the factory
then you'd see Saturn as a much bigger platform in its time as it would become synonymous with VCD movies and that whole scene and its cutscenes would have wiped the floor with Sony's
and made for much better CGI commercials which as we know... were basically worth their weight in gold.

That said... I kind of LIKE working designs translations, they were doing it for the lulz back when it was that or nothing- And they introduced many people to JRPGs that way.
ITS NOT LIKE the Anime of the time was being translated any better or free from "taking license" and "initiative" in translating jokes etc. But honestly yeah ...
I am getting this port.

Now where the hell is my port of Shining force 3 Scenarios 1 2 and 3 all together in one collection? The translation patches are excellent for that one by the way as well.
