Lunar Remastered Collection |OT| GungHo's New Working Designs for a Classic JRPG

Got my physical copy! Game looks and plays great on Switch OLED. The animated scenes have never been cleaner or crisper. I know people love to complain about EVERYTHING nowadays but so far, I'm very satisfied with this remastered classic.
Is it 30 or 60 fps on Switch? I think these are legitimate complaints though. When a remaster comes out is it too much want the game preserved and the best version of said games? So many remasters are missing content, music, voice acting due to licensing that a lot of the games aren't preserved. Or they're bastardizes in some way. Now we also have to worry about whether there will be censorship or the difficulty balance gets changed for the worse etc. It's extremely frustrating

So, Lunar vets. There's one thing I've always been confused about. Is Lunar set in the past or the future?

I always thought it was way in the past when Earth's moon was just as livable as Earth itself. But, I saw a book in the remaster about how signs show how people lived on the "blue star" long ago and they don't know when or why they left.

IIRC isn't it set in the future? because
Zophar
destroyed Earth as we know it

here's a timeline for events in the games at least, doesn't really say anything about when it happens compared to life as we know it

Maybe. I definitely played the first game a lot more than the second. I don't remember nearly as much from the second game.

Anyone have the NTSC US/Canada copy for PS4 and or Switch? Just curious was there a patch for the switch or ps4 ntsc versions.

PSA: Videogames Plus will be allowing orders for ALL system versions of Lunar Collection Remastered to ship to the US today (4/22 @ 1:00PM Est)

If you want or didn't get the physical edition, you may have a 2nd chance today @ Videogames Plus. Stock is limited.

Edit: This is for all versions, not just Switch.

It says they are accepting pre-orders for a 2-4 week restock. Seems like they are waitng for the same restocks as everyone else, but you can preorder.

Yep. Vic Ireland is the man and you know it!

True, but it's at least a guaranteed order, unlike Amazon (at this point). And once they run out of pre-ordered stock then that's it, unless there's a 3rd restock.

No issue in waiting, but i wouldn't wait until the point it's too late.

So far I have not seen any status, including poison, persists after battle in this version. I think it's better this way....persisting status ailments are only a good idea if the game is designed around it or it would meaningfully change how the game is played, and that is not the case here. It'd be one thing if the resources to cure ailments were scarce to the point where the player would need to be more careful about engaging in combat, but this game gives you plenty of resources to handle them. The only thing making them stick after combat would do is add more menu busy work, which I don't think is very compelling.

Well FWIW, when I played through EB remake there wasn't a lack of items to cure poison, and a lot of normal battles in the dungeons where poison was a factor, generally I felt the poison never did enough damage to warrant using an antidote vs. just finishing the battle and the character being auto-cured of the poison. Meaning the only thing I'd have to do afterwards is heal.

But that also made picking up so many antidotes kind of trivial, and they'd just take up inventory space until I'd waste them or sell 'em.

So, has anyone actually played this on Switch yet? Trying to figure out if this is 30 or 60 fps and it's looking like this might be 30!

If that's true I'm gutted. A pixel art 30 yr old games that was 60 fps on ps1 is 30 fps on Switch? Wtf ...hoping this isn't true

Haven't played the Switch version, but there's footage of it running at 60 on it for both Remastered Mode and Classic Mode.

I'm having a weird feeling playing this. I played the Sega CD version so many times as a kid, I still remember everything about the game, despite not playing it in decades. I've had the urge to, but didn't have any good way to play it until this.

I had the PS1 versions, but that came at a time where I wasn't gaming much and I never played them. I never even realized they completely changed large portions of the story, added characters, etc until just now.

I was confused at first, thinking I somehow remembered things wrong. But, I quickly realized that it wasn't my memory.

I'm enjoying the new stuff, but for personal nostalgia purposes, I really with they added the Sega CD version as well.

Yeah the PS1/Saturn versions were basically remakes of the Sega/Mega CD ones. They changed quite a lot of the game mechanics i.e unifying inventories, adding more dungeons & bosses, adding the Crest system in EB PS1/Saturn (the original version didn't have Crests), etc.

Generally speaking the Sega/Mega CD versions are the harder ones, BUT I'm gonna go on record say the PS1/Saturn version of Zophar is much harder than the original. It's the hardest fight in the entire series IMHO. It's not just the multiple phases (those were in the original too), but that on one phase in particular he can attack up to five times and all of his attacks are very deadly. If you don't have your team in the right formation and don't take out certain parts of his form in the third phase the right way, you're screwed (that's also because Zophar has insanely good luck and will target the most vulnerable party members almost every time).

That said tho I really enjoyed that battle and it made up for the fact that most of the other boss fights were a tad too easy IMO; like at points where I thought I'd have to really start struggling with resources, a party member would suddenly get the killing shot.

I expected things like that l. I wasn't expecting the actual story to be changed as much as it was.

Yeah. They got rid of the original voice acting. You might as well just play the PlayStation originals in an emulator.

What is really annoying is that the copies of the new game were bought up by scalpers.

I haven't gotten around to this yet since I'm still playing through the Suikoden release slowly - so is it true you can't select the original music and VA then?

lol the dialogue in this game sometimes

They're talking about one of the girls accidentally putting laxatives in a chocolate chip cookie mix, and Alex is just like "... ... ..." almost to say "How the hell did I end up with these people"

Finished Lunar 1, clocked in just over 20 hours (worth noting that I had battle speed on 2x/3x pretty much the whole game).

I can see why this game is remembered fondly: the main party is really endearing, and Kyle and Jessica's constant slap-kiss bickering never ceases to be entertaining. The soundtrack is also nice, and the dungeons are fairly diverse and colorful. I do wish that the game was more narratively ambitious; even considering its age, this is about as boilerplate fantasy as it gets, and I feel like there's more they could have done to flesh out some of the supporting cast. The villains aren't particularly great either; they try to give the main villain a sympathetic motivation, but there's nothing shown within the game's story that even remotely supports why they would think or act the way they do.

Man, still haven't been able to get a copy from Amazon. They've obviously had some restock but scalpers snatched them all up. I check like 10 times a day, but just a bunch of resellers on there now. I did manage to preorder one from that Canadian shop so hoping that comes through.

Still cannot believe how bad they bungled this release. By not allowing pre-orders, they created a FOMO which only made the scalpers foam at the mouth. How about you find another retailer and let us preorder?

So, this isn't really spoiler territory, but it is mid-late gameplay stuff....

I'm trying to get bars of soap. I know it's not a requirement by any means, but I didn't realize til being 20+ hours in that you can only buy them from a shop on the boat earlier in the game. I was reading online that certain monsters in the forbidden forest have low chances of dropping them, but i've been farming them for hours and no luck, so I'm not sure if this version even has those drops from certain enemies.

Any information would be helpful if this is even worth doing anymore, or if there's someplace else to look. "bar of soap" is such a broad term that Ive found very few results even when i include the game title in google searches.

FML, I ordered this and two other items from Amazon some time ago. The parcel arrived, but it was already open, and the game was missing. The other two items arrived, though. They promised to send me a replacement, but who knows when the publisher can even ship the second print out there.

I did it! After 20+ years, owning multiple copies at one time or another, saying I'll get around to playing it...finally beat lunar silver star story.

So I'll say, the combat is fine, but it's probably the weakest part of the game. It can very easily just be mashed through, and that's kind of a bummer, because I think good JRPG combat should be engaging still. Only the boss battles did I really need to pay attention. That being said, it's still fine, because the rest of the game is fantastic. This is one of the best of the era and genre for a reason. I love the writing, the story is basic, but still something a person can latch onto. Don't need me to say that the art is beautiful also. Love it.

Gonna take a break before jumping into Lunar 2. Got other stuff I can dip my toes into, and the Switch 2 is coming out soon.
