Lunar Remastered Collection |OT| GungHo's New Working Designs for a Classic JRPG

I ordered the Switch version from Amazon this morning for a Sunday 4/20 delivery. Checked a half hour ago and it's backed up to 4/25-4/28, then 10 minutes ago 4/25-4/29, now it's 5/5-5/19. Well I guess Gung Ho didn't want sales.

Yeah but you pretty much hate everything so that's no surprise there.

Only humans and most video games. Working Designs took too many liberties with their translation work and mucked with balancing. Further, we already have editions of those games so I'm looking forward to see someone else's effort which, admittedly, could be worse.

Switch version is out of stock now.
These people suck. "There will be plenty available". Liars.

Also, for whatever reason, I had it in my head these were to be 49.99 - guess just imagining things, because it says 55, "down" from 60. Edit: Found it was 50 for the digital, must have read that at some point and not looked beyond.

Edit: Ps4 also out of stock now. Guess I should have ordered first thing in the morning, but I believed that PR garbage that it will be "enough". Hopefully they do, in fact, restock.

So they lied about the release date and that there'd be enough copies available.

I just gave up on physical and just got digital on Xbox. Streams fantastic on the deck too with XBplay.

I feel like there will definitely be more made. Limited releases make a very finite amount of money. If the publisher explicitly tried to dissuade FOMO purchases, I think you can take them at their word since it would have been very easy to drive up sales by simply saying nothing at all on the subject. They said they'd make more, and they'd be stupid not to. More sales = more money.

Hope so! (y)

I'll double dip for the Steam version eventually and I'll probably keep my Switch version sealed.
Yea I'm sure it'll eventually be a nice collectors piece sealed like the old games, especially end of life for the Switch release, ps4 as well.. That sold out pretty quick today

Is anyone here actually playing it or is this just going to be a thread bitching about orders and supply
I've been playing my Switch copy that I ordered yesterday. Not very far yet, but I'm working on it. Been wanting to play em for so long. I love this art style so much, I always have since I saw these games. Luna is so cute too, I like the frowns she makes in the dialogue boxes when she gets mad.

I wanted to resist using any speed boosting in battle, but it's hard to resist. I only go up to 2 bars, cuz 3 is too fast.

With the Suikoden HD collection, random battles are often slow and take time away from exploring. You have to watch all the animations. I don't see how speeding up battle would take anything away from the experience. There's lots of battles you'll have to sit through. Might as well save the wait for the boss fights or something.

My copy arrives today. Gonna have to finish up XCX so I can dive into this.

Yep, that's what I am doing as well with my Switch copy.

Don't have the time to replay Lunar right now, but I will come back to the game in a few months.

For those that pick it up on release, please lemme know if they fixed the sprinting so that it's not done in bursts anymore, and that you can just hold the sprint button rather than having to tap it every 3 seconds.

IDK, that seems like it'd break the flow of exploration. They did sprinting that way in EB remake so that you couldn't just run past every single random encounter, and you had to be clever at times at when to sprint and when not.

Even if they left the mechanic as-is but had it so you could hold the button and the sprint just re-enables after a cooldown, that would just feel odd while playing. I actually quite like the sprint mechanic; it feels fair and lets you avoid some battles but not everything; in certain places you can use it combined with wall barriers to get enemies stuck temporarily in spots and then get another sprint in with just enough time to avoid them reaching you once your sprint runs out. Made for fun exploration.

I'd also say without it, exploration would've been too easy, particularly in some of the early dungeons. I was hoping this new release would've done for SS & EB what the Saturn/PS1 versions did for the Mega CD originals, but I can understand why they might've opted out of that. Plus, I don't think Game Arts was involved in this nearly to the same capacity...I don't even know if they're around anymore TBH :(

"healing nut! This might come on handy!"

Is the screenshot I would have like to post, but it's not working for some reason.

I just hope they don't wreck the game like most other rebakes.

Ah man, that reminds me...there's some great jokes in EB (and some of the outtakes are crazy good) that probably might get cut since they'd probably be considered too sensitive for "modern audiences"

"Dudes wanna be him, and chicks wanna do him. He's the ultimate role model!"

"Hey retard! If you like the sight of blood so much, why don't you go look at your own?"

"Well, Hiro, time to probe the bush. Let's get this party started."

"I think the term you want to use is "big brother", my retarded young friend!"

Ronfar's quite the dude 😂

Agree to disagree, I found the sprint bursting to be annoying. So annoying that over a decade later, it's the one thing I remember most.

That's fair, you're welcome to that opinion. I never really minded it and found it fitting most of the time, outside of maybe a couple instances (but that was due to running really low on some items & MP).

EDIT: Also maybe another unpopular opinion, but I'd of liked if status ailments persisted between battles. I can't recall if any do but in EB (PS1 ver) I don't remember that being the case. Could be misremembering....I think Poison was persistent between battles?

Is there a PS5 physical version? I've seen boxart for it but the stores where I live only carry the PS4 physical version.

PS4 version only, but it's compatible (obviously) with the PS5.

I can't remember how it was in the original, but so far, it seems status ailments do not persist post-battle.

So far I have not seen any status, including poison, persists after battle in this version. I think it's better this way....persisting status ailments are only a good idea if the game is designed around it or it would meaningfully change how the game is played, and that is not the case here. It'd be one thing if the resources to cure ailments were scarce to the point where the player would need to be more careful about engaging in combat, but this game gives you plenty of resources to handle them. The only thing making them stick after combat would do is add more menu busy work, which I don't think is very compelling.

So tired of these forced digital marketing crap. Limited (or none) physical copies, which make publishers push digital and the release physical later. They know people will double-dip, and that is what they are striving for.

This is exactly why I was sitting and waiting to refresh on amazon on release day. Even with their "they'll be plenty of copies" bull shit, I knew it wasn't going to last the day, especially with it being an amazon exclusive. You don't do this type of shit without knowing the outcome.

So, has anyone actually played this on Switch yet? Trying to figure out if this is 30 or 60 fps and it's looking like this might be 30!

If that's true I'm gutted. A pixel art 30 yr old games that was 60 fps on ps1 is 30 fps on Switch? Wtf ...hoping this isn't true

It's probably one of the cheapest and laziest remasters known to man. The games are of course still as fine as they used to be, but the visuals are dogshit. AI upscaled cutscenes where you can see the instability of the upscale, some of the overlaid transparency effects in dungeons are way too strong compared to original, some field/battle backgrounds have crazy compression artifacts and hand-drawn sprites like Q are ugly as hell as they get blown up to big screen and not retouched at all, the "post FX" option is ridiculous and stupid. It just looks so bad and that's a shame.

*Completely handicaps physical release* "Look everyone, sales for the physical Lunar are such a small percentage of the digital! Subsequently we'll be adjusting our releases to meet this obvious consumer preference shift!"

I'm having a fantastic time revisiting Lunar! It's been a long time. After turning off the post processing effects, it's pretty much as I remember it. The game flows better than ever thanks to the game retaining its Japanese difficulty. Yes, it is easier, but it is way better than having to grind out levels and march back and forth to town, especially in the Dragon Cave part. The voice acting is great and the translation still has lots of humor in it. I love speaking to the NPC characters multiple times to see what they'll say,

I'm having a weird feeling playing this. I played the Sega CD version so many times as a kid, I still remember everything about the game, despite not playing it in decades. I've had the urge to, but didn't have any good way to play it until this.

I had the PS1 versions, but that came at a time where I wasn't gaming much and I never played them. I never even realized they completely changed large portions of the story, added characters, etc until just now.

I was confused at first, thinking I somehow remembered things wrong. But, I quickly realized that it wasn't my memory.

I'm enjoying the new stuff, but for personal nostalgia purposes, I really with they added the Sega CD version as well.

Yeah, ports/remaster/etc like this should always include original versions IMO. Throw in the unaltered SCD, PSX, etc versions in the package would be just perfect for me.

Finally got my copy after the Amazon driver delivered it to the wrong address. I'll be finishing up DQ3 HD and then I'll dive in.

After several decades since playing Lunar, I kind of expected a disappointing feeling as it didn't age well. That's happened to me with lots of games from my childhood.

Not here, though. For the ridiculous number of "young boy from a small village sets off an adventure to save the world" JRPGs I've played, Lunar still feels special. I'm sure that's 90% childhood nostalgia, but regardless it still feels like a wonderful game.

Played a bit digitally

I have to say Japanese audio versions of Lunar 1&2 with 'remastered' visuals out on every major platform
is 100% better than the nothing void (we dont talk about that psp game) Lunar was in before this.

The English singing/dub is might be the weakest part of this I'd rather they had not bothered at all.
I'm never playing through these in English couldn't stop cringing. Thankfully I still have my copy of Lunar SSSC if I want a great dub
(My brother stole my other copies and years later my EX stole both copies of Lunar 2 I had) I hoped this would be an ultimate collection
with the "mr.segacd" versions as well as "mr.playstation" versions and maybe even Saturn and while its better than nothing its
still barebones and disappointing. Lunar deserves better wish I had half a Million to throw at Vic lol...I held back upon hearing
about the release of this version but looks like I'm going to have to track down extra copies of Lunar 1&2 on PSX (AGAIN)

Shout out to the real hero my boy Nash

Got my physical copy! Game looks and plays great on Switch OLED. The animated scenes have never been cleaner or crisper. I know people love to complain about EVERYTHING nowadays but so far, I'm very satisfied with this remastered classic.

Just started it a couple hours ago. Loving it so far but man it pains me to play without the original Sega CD soundtrack for Lunar 1. I think I'm going to play 2 first. Hopefully there will be a mod for 1 by the time I return to it.

I never played the originals; I'm excited to finally try these games out. I hear that this version is easy like the original was and I am okay with that but I can see how it upsets some players who crave more challenge.

I didn't even know there was a limited release physical version; I'd very much like one but I am okay buying digitally.
