Got the ticket for my third viewing, yay! The last time I did something like this was with Spirited Away more than a decade ago. What a film.

I watch very few movies in theaters these days, and even fewer more than once.

I'm going to watch this again this weekend. I can't get it out of my head.

Going for a second time tomorrow. Was supposed to watch it again last week but I got ill :(

Also waiting for the next comic sucks. Monthly comic releases are so lame.

Max was pretty memorable to me. Reminded me of how Max has been in all the movies. I do think Hardy at times was a little uneven in his diction. Sometimes he sounded a lot like Mel Gibson and other times he channeled some Bane. But as for his on screen presence, he pretty much nailed Max.
If it's not Hardy, then it's Max who's boring. There is nothing outstanding or remarkable about him in this movie. Don't know about other films, never saw them.

Not sure how you can disagree on that. Without Max, Nux probably isn't involved in the chase to begin with. And without Max, Furiosa doesn't elude the Bullet Farmer. And without Max, the whole ending would change.
None of that seems crucial. Nux could've fed on any other prisoner with a universal blood type. Furiosa could've killed the BF by setting up a trap or using a sniper rifle, or in a gunfight. And she could've changed her mind since she knew the lair was unguarded.

Anything could've happened. It all depends on the script. It's not worth discussing.

Think I should stop. You guys clearly liked the movie and I don't wanna spoil the thread by whining too much.

As for his importance to the plot, I disagree, but let's leave it at that.

Max is absolutely crucial to themes of solidarity and trust. Furiosa's growth wouldn't be nearly as impactful if it wasn't for him, and vice versa.

"Anything could have happened" is an empty retort. Of course anything could have happened in any movie.

" hey watch it he's a universal donor"

I guess I have to accept that some people can't see the glory that is this movie but more power to you guys

But you originally said that if you took Max out of the movie, nothing changes. And now you say that all of this other stuff could've happened. You're back tracking and changing your arguments from Max doesn't matter to he was boring and now back to him not being crucial.

You're right, it all does depend on the script. And in this script, Max was a key component.

They shouldn't have made the guy the movie was named after such a forgettable character.
So, like every other Mad Max movie before it?

Max has always been just kind of there, stumbling upon some situation and just ending up reluctantly helping people. Except maybe in the very first movie, but that one was boring as all hell so who cares.

What I feel when I think of the B&W version:

Fucking LOVED this film. The aesthetic was fantastic, and lovely camera work and art direction. Loved the sped up/stop motion-esque sections.

Awesome.

Might go see it again this week...

The people complaining about Mad Max's lack of presence in a movie titled Mad Max must have thrown an incredible shitfit over TRON Legacy.

TRON has maybe five minutes of total screentime, most of it brainwashed and silent.

Caught it last night. Aside from the super corny flashbacks/visions, and the opening monologue (which was severely heavy handed compared to the rest of the film-very "this is the setting and framework of the movie you are about to watch"), I fairly enjoyed it. It was simultaneously appropriately ridiculous and utterly straight faced. Great action too, this coming from someone who finds car chases boring (less brand porn probably had something to do with it). Generally left me wanting more, which is always a good sign.

Finally got a chance to see the film today and loved it. Saw it with my sister who enjoyed it as well. Need to find time to go see it again before it's out of theaters.

This is why movies are great. My 84 yo grandpa just saw it with me and had a huge smile on his face when it ended. He loved it! Damn it's sooo GOOD!!!

In Europe there's a version coming with a model replica of the Interceptor!

Oooh that's awesome! :)

I'm continuing to love all the reactions people are sharing. This really is a movie with near universal appeal. There's a fundamental, strong emotional core with the story of the two characters. They learn to work together. They help one another. The film's setting is bleak and hopeless, but the film is incredibly inspiring.

Can't wait to hopefully get the second viewing on Friday. It's felt like ages since I saw this!

miller made a film both very simple but also quite thematically rich too. not to mention it's also hands down the best looking action film i've seen in so many years.

i didn't expect a film in the 2000s to stand alongside the terminators, die hard, raiders, matrix etc. but this certainly did it.

one of those very rare blockbusters where i leave the theater and days later don't really have any nitpicks or problems with it.

I cannot freaking wait to see it a third time on Friday night. This time, finally, in IMAX. I'm so fucking giddy. I can't wait to see that storm scene again!

Absolutely love walking away from a movie and it gets BETTER the more you think about it. This movie man, this movie.

I think the quote at the end of the movie was a mistake. Both times I saw it, it just made for an uncomfortable silence, and then the music and credits come in, but by then, the impact of the strong finish was lost.

It's not as if the words there impart such a powerful message.

yeah lol it really severs that great final scene imo, should have cut that out.

and yeah UrbanRats, Miller demanded the bluray include a black and white version with just the score.

Same. I've been anticipating this movie for some time, and despite all the positive reception it still floored me in how fluid it was. A symphony of destruction, as I said after my first viewing and others have also said..
