Mad Max: Fury Road |OT| What a Lovely Day | RT: 98% | Metacritic: 89

Yeah, if a sequel were to be made and it was FURY ROAD 2 I wouldn't be super interested, honestly. If there was a sequel it should be another completely different story, and that's probably what Miller would do too given how the Mad Max movies are so self contained.

Max is a legendary figure, he should just weave in and out of stories.

I don't think Miller will make another Mad Max movie unless he knows he has a good enough idea which is different enough not to be compared with Fury Road. He's not going to make the same thing again. What would be the point? But if he has another Mad Max story which is as unique a concept, it could be interesting.

Any attempt to make the same sort of film again but "bigger and better" would honestly just feel stale.

Yeah, I agree with you. Miller basically made a post apocalyptic Oregon Trail movie here; I bet he would do something completely different for any sequels, especially considering the state of everything.

And yeah, if he tries to top this movie in terms of action...HOW

Great movie. The action was inventive and exhilarating, the soundtrack kept the blood pumping, and the world was refreshingly twisted and quirky.

As for the negatives, some of the overt feminist dialogue towards the end made me cringe. Overall though, it didn't really detract from the movie. I also felt Tom Hardy was hit or miss as Max. As others have said, it felt like Tom never got a handle on the character. At one point I heard Batman, then I heard Bane, then I heard an Australian, etc.

my only choice is real d 3d or 2d (imax isn't showing it here). since i'm assuming sound is equal between the two, 2d it is?

I saw the movie in 2D, and to be honest I don't feel like I missed anything by skipping the 3D viewing. There were a scant few moments where there were things being thrown in font of the camera for the 3D audiences, but nothing over the top or jarring for people who just want to watch the movie in 2D.

If you prefer 2D, go with 2D; personally I liked the 3D here and just watched the Cannes interview and even Miller said that he loves stereoscopic 3D. And you can see it because the movie is edited in a way that works with 3D. Some really great scenes.

hmm i'm just worried it would be blurry or something. i normally love 3d

good to know, thank you!

Was driving with girlfriend back from getting food blasting Brothers in Arms and other tracks from the movie and someone pulled up next to us and yelled "Witness me!".

The movie deserves Avengers money

This thing got made! In 2015! Some executives thought that it was worth it to put more than 100m $ into this movie. They didn't make it a remake and got around all the trouble concerning the history of this movie. This is mindblowing to me! In a movie era, where Fast 7 is one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, this is a movie that exists!

Doesn't matter if it will be successful, doesn't matter if there will be a sequel, I don't care if critics like it or not.

This movie got made and it is so unbelievably amazing! I have to watch it again and I have to go back to Mad Max 2, but I'm pretty sure this is the best one yet.
There are not many cases, where I can truly say, that my hype around a movie completely paid off. It did here. It was even better.

Going off Wikipedia he has another script ready and another story (not script ready yet) for after that.

Seems like the next one is Mad Max :
Furiosa
. Don't know how up to date that is.

That was actually supposed to be an anime prequel made at the same time as Fury Road, but was scrapped.

I don't really see how that's a stretch, both of them are action movies.
I thought Fast 7 was significantly more enjoyable

Jeff Goldsmith interviewed George Miller on his podcast The Q&A.

Miller states in the the interview that they already have a script for a sequel that's tentatively titled MAD MAX: THE WASTELAND. It's not storyboarded yet and Miller makes it apparent he's still recovering from wrapping MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. Tom Hardy is signed on for at least one more film. Miller also mentions in the interview that there's a potential third film, but it isn't as far along as MAD MAX: THE WASTELAND.

Wow, you're losing me man. Also nux alone has plenty of personality in the film, I dunno how you can say the film's characters are devoid of it

I was going to see Pitch Perfect 2, but decided to watch the original last night, and watch Mad Max in the theater instead.

I made the right choice! This movie is fantastic.

I'm not saying Fast 7 is bad. But this movie is a movie with everything the name entails. You can see the thought process, the pre-production, the actors in uncomfortable surroundings for the shoot dripping from every frame.
Fast 7 is light fun, this one moves the whole genre forward.

What a lovely lovely movie. I've never seen a Mad Max movie but Fury Road needs no background knowledge whatsoever and stands on its own.

My own real beef is that some of the dialogue is weak, but since it's so sparse it was a minor quibble. The film also did feel a bit long but the set pieces are so crazy and over the top that I could deal with it.

I think I love both Hardy and Theron's performance equally. Their chemistry is excellent, and their relationship from from suspicion to trust is very nicely done.

Is this one of the highest rated "blockbuster" films of all time? Holy shit.

I don't think I've ever seen a Mad Max movie before, but I'm gonna go see this tonight. Really excited!

I just realized it.

Mad Max is the Terminator 2 of the 21st century. An action movie so fucking far beyond its peers you almost can't believe it.

But it's real.

You have to go back to 1991 to get on MM's level.

The hype is real.

Motherfuckers.
Jett has lost his damn fool mind. I love it.
Lionel Mandrake, Jett, Kapetein, Sculli...all united in love. Where are Solo and PhoenixDark?

Good lord, that's the most eclectic group of positive film people ever. With the power of JESUS (Lionel), HATRED (Jett) SAN FRANCISCO (Kaep) and AVATAR (Sculli), nobody can be contained!

I need to sink it in and watch it a second time to give a proper verdict, but right now this was probably the most impressive movie i've seen in cinema since The Dark Knight in 2008.

I think I was slightly more stunned at TDK and esp. Ledgers performance. But Fury Road and Charlize are not far behind. I think Theron absolutely fucking deserves a nomination, though it will be difficult with all the feminist gibberish popping up lately.

A dutch reporter interviewed her in Cannes and drew comparisons with Ellen Ripley, which humbles her (its English):

Just seen this.

Holy shit.

Don't think I blinked once during the entire film.

I watched all of the Mad Max films last year and I loved this film nailing the series theme of Max vs. a ragtag band of absolute weirdos. Nicholas Hoult's absolutely fantastic, there's a guy who seemed to buy into his role 110%. Dude went for the jugular with that shit.

This movie won't leave me alone.. It's been 6 hours since I left the theater and my mind keeps drifting back to it. It's so strange because films haven't really impacted me like that for a long long time.

It's not hard for me to put this movie right there with the best in the genre.

This.
...it really is Theron stealing the show here. To me, Furiosa is the best female action hero since Ellen Ripley from Alien/s. The sequel focusing on her makes me really happy and shows that Miller clearly understands what he's got here.

And this.
...right after the movie was over, I was seriously considering going to the next showing. I fucking loved it and didn't expect to love it so much. We have been blessed with a true action movie classic and everybody should give this at least a shot. Just incredible. Incredible, incredible, incredible.

Couldn't have said any of it better myself.

Saw it for the second time; movie is just completely ridiculous...like Cirque du Soleil on wheels with an adrenaline shot. I've never seen anything quite like it and haven't been so taken with an action movie since Terminator 2.

6/6 stars.

Anyone know how Armond White reviewed the movie?

Negative review. Hmmm.

"Miller doesn’t simply master this we-are-all-gladiators trope, he celebrates it. None of today’s specialists in nihilism can match this stuff. Not Darren Aronofsky, not Christopher Nolan, not Bong Joon-ho, not Quentin Tarantino. But so what? When Miller put aside the Mad Max franchise and made the marvelous Babe: Pig in the City and Happy Feet, he showed more feeling for a pig and for penguins than for humans."

As a political conservative who loves National Review and uses it as one of my main news sources, it appalls me that they threw him a lifeline.

What made me laugh whilst watching this, it was like George Miller and his crew had watched the Fast and The Furious movies and were like 'SIT THE FUCK DOWN' and completely trounced anything they ever did car chase wise in those films.

I can't believe I finally had the pleasure of watching a movie of this caliber on week 1 of it's existence.

I was born in 1990, Most of the legendary action movies were all consumed by me in a later time during my youth and adulthood.

This one though... Wow

Holy shit

Hard to take someone seriously who flat out states Beyond Thunderdome is the best movie in the franchise.

Its like saying Robocop 3 is the best Robocop flick. Some things are just not true, even though there are opinions and all that.
