After Nux crashes the war rig near the end and the guitar and steering wheel come flying at the screen. The whole thing just screams "HEY LOOK IT'S 3D!"

Right. Now I remember. I was so 'into' the experince by then I didn't even see it as a cheap 'for 3d' effect. AllthoughI found it stupid to see
the guitar
so prominently featurd

Yeah, that's one of the few things I would have changed. I seem to recall they did it earlier in the film as well, one of guys on the bikes throws something towards the screen.

This movie is freaking intense. It's unlike any other movie in recent memory. The best I can describe it is as a sensory experience that you gotta see on the big screen. Very rare that I can say a movie is exhausting in a good way.

I saw the movie on Friday... and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. I wake up every day legitimately happier simply because this movie lived up to and SURPASSED my hype. What a fuckin show.

It's all fun and games until the kids are leaping of swings screaming "WITNESS ME!!"

I want to see a playground fight go there. Someone pulling a girl's hair and walking away. Then the girl climbs the slide a bit and launches off towards her attacker and screams, "WITNESS ME!"

This is like the least-bleak post apicolyptic film ever made at least.
This film is pretty damn bleak.

I mean yeah it can be at times, but there I'll has pretty much a completely happy ending, so watching it doesn't depress you are anything. You come out of the theater feeling like you watched a movie like Guardians of the Galaxy in terms of tone.

It was pretty awesome.

YAY! There's Solo. The party is complete now I believe.

While you don't leave the film feeling depressed, the feeling after this is pretty far removed from Guardians of the Galaxy in my opinion. Yeah, it ends on a high note on a certain level, but the world is still completely fucked at the end.

You think? I mean at the end... (Spoilers?)
All of the good guys win, all of the bad guys lose, the message is that anything is possible through teamwork and empathy in your fellow man, and there's every reason to believe they'll lead the citadel into a new age of prosperity. Food, water, shelter, technology, and peace. The ending of the film is literally the best thing that could have happened to those people, and there's still always a chance they can explore the salt later once their city is significantly sized. The fact that everything can eventually be fixed is supported by how much our main characters have achieved in the film. They made the impossible possible before, why not again? Friendship defeats all enemies.

It has a happier ending than all of the Hunger Games movies even :p

And they still have the rest of the War Boys that will eventually get back from the canyon whenever they get through. And the armies of Bullet Town and Gas Town to deal with. Once they potentially stop providing mother's milk and water for those towns, you know shit is going to hit the fan hard. And we don't even know how sustainable the crops are. They may not have enough to take care of many of the people at the citadel.

But, those are hypotheticals. And even with your best case scenario and the one I posted, the world is still fucked.

I really only thought Hardy was weak. The rest of the cast, the world building, the costume/set design, the editing, the action, and the score were aces. Absolute A+ aces.

Probably my favorite blockbuster since Casino Royale.

The film's only as violent as it needs to be and leaves most of the gore to the imagination without excess. It's tasteful and careful with its compositions.

I suspect it's because Miller had to shoot both an "R" and "PG-13" version of the film for Warner Bros.

They test-screened both cuts and the "R" version received higher praise.

My 12 year old daughter is interested in going with me to see this on Saturday. How hard of an R is it?

To give you an idea, in France Fury Road doesn't have a rating, not even "-12".
We just have a "Warning: scenes, words or images may offend the sensibilities of the audience"

Only two times I can think of why it's an R in america

I think there were some boob shots in the beginning with the breast pumps, big deal.
The mutilation that happens later in the movie... which isn't even graphic

I think she'll be fine.

My 12 year old daughter is interested in going with me to see this on Saturday. How hard of an R is it? The rating description makes it sound like it's primarily for the action, but I wasn't sure if there was much gore in the mix. She's okay with pretty much everything but too much splatter.

Take her, for sure. It really is one of the few great action movies that doesn't brush women aside. There is some disturbing stuff in the movie, but often it happens at a distance or off screen. I can't think that of a single shot that was gratuitous.

Am I the only one who noticed that there's a scene in this movie where
a polecat gets an explosive detonated on their chest and you can see their exposed ribcage as they swing away?

The movie doesn't linger on the gore, but there are definitely reasons for it to be R.

I took my almost-11 daughter last weekend and she loved it. There's nothing terribly inappropriate shown, as most of the worst things are implied.

I guess he has a lot more time for movies now since Konami rendered him unemployed?

:3

Also, "Cheers to MAXs not to run away but fight for future. What a lovely day."

Is he talking about Konami or something? :p

Yup, I remember that. :)

Agreed. It's why this movie works so well - the violent moments do not disrupt the action itself.

Thanks for the replies and discussion. I've decided to screen it myself first and then make a call, so at the least I know what she's getting into.

I viewed it a second time last night and a thought occurred to me: Most of the dialogue in the action sequences had to have been executed with ADR. Shooting for 130 days in the Namibia desert and mostly consisting of mobile, intricate sequences must have been a NIGHTMARE for the sound team.

Saw it for the third time tonight and I still feel like seeing it again haha. The cinema had Dolby Atmos installed and it was quite the experience hearing Brother In Arms play through them. I might be getting a tad too addicted to this film lol.

This movie was incredible.

Weirdly, it doesn't seem to be playing around here next weekend and my friends are having the same issue in DC. Is it getting pulled from theaters for anyone else this weekend?

Some theater chains don't schedule their movies for the weekend until like, Thursday. (Regal, I'm looking at you.)

I really enjoyed this movie. I loved the contrasting, extreme colors and the insane music/audio with little interesting editing flourishes all over the place.

So she's 10; so you obviously felt she was mature enough to handle it right? Had you seen it before taking her? I'm glad you took her. Powerful role-model that Imperator Furiosa!

You just want to watch the film more than once. Admit it. :)

There's a similar kind of weirdness to the bad guys in the Mad Max movies and the bad guys in MGS games, I can see why Kojima is a fan.

Yup. Kojima directed Mad Max game would be epic!
