Pete cannot be Don no matter how hard he tries.

I don't think that is the point of Pete. Pete is clearly the "Don" of his generation in comparison to Harry, Ken, Cosgrove...etc.

The primary difference between Pete and Don is age and because of that age difference; power.

They are almost splitting images of one another, just from different eras of American history.

I think of them more as opposites. Pete born into privledge and power, only to lose it. Don climbing his way there.

Pete is similar in some ways to provide contrast in others.

So those flashbacks. What are they trying to tell us? That Don has lingering mommy issues that makes him incapable of being faithful to one woman? To spy through a keyhole and see your pregnant mom about to have sex with a brothel owner, that's the kind of image that leaves a mark.

It just adds more color to his childhood; goes further to explaining his sexual addiction and other vices. It's not issues with his mother so much as it is explaining to us that his childhood was chaotic, that he has no conception of what fidelity is, and that's why he'll never have a stable relationship in his adult life. Though I thought him giving money to Sylvia was a curious link, and I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. In any case, the Mad Men writers are great at pinning down the basic psychology of each character, and that's it.

Is it bad form if I plug my own recap/episode analysis? It's for the ex-Whiskey Media website Screened.

Made this gif from my favorite scene from last night.

Thanks for playing.

That's exactly what it says in body language and facial expression. That face on Don is fucking priceless. Those eyes.
How such a messed up/broken man always manages to be able to take control of any situation in the blink of an eye is astounding.

I love trudy AND brie (don't we all) so it was like a moment of perfection.

Good episode again. The dinner scene between Don and Sylvia was goooood. I'm still wondering if Arnold is also having an affair. But maybe that's too much :p

Oh and Trudy <3

Pete is so fucked.

I don't know why Trudy has condemned herself to the life of a dutiful, subservient housewife. She's capable of so much more. Hopefully this will wake her up and make her realize her potential.

So basically
Stan is getting fired, and Don will bring Sal back. I'm cool with that as long as Stan sticks around in some fashion (perhaps at CGC with Peggy). Stan is a much better character than Sal.

Can't we just have Peggy back at SCDP? Yes pls

The woman Pete slept with was fine as hell. Damn. It's a pity for him that he lacks everything else that Don (superficially) has save for his scumbaggery. Trudy asserting openly her figurative ownage of his balls was very fun.

And again with Don and doors.

No, no, no, no to that spoiler text. Stan is awesome and talented. How in the world will Don ever find out about Stan and Peggy's ongoing friendship? Why would Peggy ruin Stan by admitting this information to Don?

Because in the end, Peggy will do what is good for Peggy and fuck Stan. She's not some shining beacon. She may not be as shitty as others on this show but she's not spotless either.

She didn't look too happy with how that Heinz thing turned out though. Let's wait and see what happens with that.

Peggy won't say anything. I'm guessing SCDP will realize they've been had when they get word that CGC is making a pitch. And that would almost certainly implicate Peggy and someone at SCDP.

What does Peggy stand to gain from ratting out Stan? Even if she does have malicious intents, she'll have a spy at SCDP as long as she keeps 'playing' his friendship.

Re: Bert's spoiler text:

None of that is going to happen. But regarding
Sal, he was too defined by being closeted. And that story is played out. But I think it could be very interesting to see how he's changed if he has come out, or what's he's been through. Could be a lot more interesting that Stan, even though I love him.

Just to clarify the spoiler rules: If you're discussing spoilers (e.g. information on episodes that haven't aired yet based previews/promos, interviews, casting news, etc...) please use tags. Speculation does not have to be tagged. Also, if you're responding to stuff that's tagged appropriately, please use tags in your reply. Thanks for your help.

She's not going to do anything outright villainous. She'll just go after Ketchup. Someone at SCDP is going to say "Hey, Peggy's firm sure was ready to pounce on that quickly, where could they have known about it?" Someone's gonna talk and Stan will be in trouble.

I doubt anyone will get in trouble for the Ketchup thing. The dude even said everyone will know soon they just have a head start.

re: Possible character coming back

Wait, what happened to
Sal
again?

Fired because he didn't reacted to Lee Garner Jr.'s advances the way Lee Garner Jr. expected it. He went crying to Don that he wanted Sal off the job or Lucky Strike would leave and so it happened.

It's confusing because I'm not sure if it's a spoiler or not.

I find GAF to be overly cautious when it comes to spoilers. I'm just covering my ass.

In that case I'll just leave it be.

bitch I'm taking calls.
Sal is not coming back, ladies and gentlemen. You don't need to spoiler speculation about it either because it just isn't happening. Anywhere that you might have read it was happening was most definitely speculation at best and fanfiction at worst. He might make a cameo but I am all but certain Weiner is done with his story.

That's right, I completely forgot. I really need to re-watch the series so far.

I thought I had read a spoiler somewhere that Sal is coming back this season. I could be totally mistaken. In fact, I probably am.
For what it's worth, I haven't read anything that suggests it will happen. Seems like the sort of thing Weiner would keep under tight lock & key in any case.

Also, this was amusing from last week:

I used to enjoy Mad Men, but I didn't "get" it. That is until season 5, I don't know why but something about that season turned this show from really good too great. For that reason season 5 is my favorite season

It looks to me that Betty can relate to more with Sandy than she can with her own daughter. It's fitting because they both need a mother and a daughter.

Sal's actor
mysteriously showed in one of S6's cast photos, unless I'm mistaken.
