The bear of bad news

Electronic Arts has officially confirmed the release date for the next entry in the Madden NFL series, and it looks like the series is making the full leap to the current generation of consoles.

Madden NFL 26 will debut on August 14, 2025 with a three-day early access period for Deluxe Edition pre-orders starting on August 11. The next pro football entry will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, PC via EA app for Windows, Steam, and Epic, and on the Nintendo Switch 2.

While Madden NFL 26 will see the series finally head to Nintendo's hybrid handheld console, it also means the series is leaving the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on the bench. Neither last-gen platform is confirmed for Madden NFL 26, so the series is fully stepping into the PS5 and Xbox Series era.

Hopefully EAFC (their biggest franchise) will be next.

It desperately needs a new engine and gameplay changes.
As big as Madden is in the US, EA would surely be leaving too much money on the table to move on from EAFC on PS4 at this point. I'd assume it's by far the best selling sports game worldwide.

Sadly there will be zero improvements. It'll likely be worse than the last one as that's what happens every year now.

I'm sure there will be a new engine and some radical gameplay improvements /s

It'll be a roster update from Madden 25 with new ways to nickel and dime customers in MUT and it'll still play and animate worse than ESPN 2k5, a game that came out over twenty years ago.

A Nintendo console to have an EA Sports flagpole with current year engine and assets, when has this even happened last - Wii U? Or GameCube?
