maybe IGN felt that the ad seemed like the Nike Commercial because of the sequences that were of much higher quality, like of the top image above, and the fact that both ads ended with a fireworks display. it can leave that impression on the person, of being very similar, even though the Nike ad is technically (and even to the eye) head and shoulders above the Madden ad.

If you pay close attention, the 1st shot is from the 'sack cam' which, at least to my eyes, looks significantly more detailed than the actual in game footage. Kind of the way the replay footage on Gran Turismo was a bit higher quality than the actual gameplay.

I hate to say it but I wish I had NEVER seen that Nike commercial. It has completely ruined me because THAT represents what in my mind would be the ultimate football video game. Now, no matter how good the upcoming generation is, I'll be looking to the horizon for the day I can actually PLAY that Nike commercial!

The reason the commercial frustrates me so much is because like you said, we're still not any closer to knowing exactly what to expect from the 360/PS3/Revolution. Like I said before, if EA can get the detail like what's in the 'sack cam' AND make the animation very fluid, I will be satisfied. If the game ends up being a playable version of the commercial (the on the field footage), I'll be a little let down.

I think thats kind of a loaded question
, i get the feeling consoles will be closer next gen than they are this just because of the amount of work that goes into making the games. I dont know the details yet so i cant say and I wouldnt be allowed to if i did heh. Im more of a sony fanboy personally though.midnightguy

if you mean for the upcoming next-gen (Xbox360 - Rev - PS3) then you WILL be disappointed, because no way in fucking hell are those consoles gonna pull off the NIKE GRIDIRON ad in real-time. be it in-game or even just realtime replays.
we would be VERY lucky to get graphics on Xbox360, Rev and PS3 that look like the better portions of the Madden next-gen CGI ad. we won't be getting NIKE ad graphics until at least the PS4 generation in the next decade, 6 years from now, (or 5 years if Xbox3 comes out in 2010) ...gaurnteed.
But that commercial could never be a game since you're not going to have a game with 40 guys on defense and with all those cinematic angles. That would be unplayable and not very fun to play if all those odd angles and animations happened during actual gameplay. You would think this game sucks because its uncontrollable.Rob said:

Angles and editing make all the difference in the world. You wouldn't see the line animations without the camera swooping in across the front. You can't see the facial expressions without the closeup, and you won't get that sense of speed without the steadycam style movement that follows Vick. nathkenn, do you know for sure that the animation is being addressed for next gen madden. IE it'll look much better than what the video showed? I thought the whole thing looked great. But those animations in the video looked too stiff and seemed to be pulled directly from the PS2 version. I'm actually a little more worried about the animation than the overall graphics quality (Which I thought looked great) at the moment!

Commercial looked pretty damn good to me,the only thing I didn't like was McNabb's throwing animation and T.O.'s dive into the endzone at the end.I expect everyone in here to be ready for our Madden league once this hits since everyone is sooooo into it!
