One thing I found intresting is the fact that this exact shot:

Is in the ad (its animated, too)

Which means that parts of this ad is very very old.....that pic was released last November....so it is possible this "ad" is actually that rumored in-house concept video EA shows at project meetings....

the animation needs a huge improvement to match the visuals if they are really gunning for the realistic look. The throwing animation by McNabb looked really stiff and robotic.

It is NOT the correct representation of the game (if you believe what EA says) and they have no competition so why do they feel the need to put on this dog and pony show? I mean, if the game was far along and they were showing actual Madden 2006 IN GAME footage then I wouldn't be as annoyed. However the way it was presented, I feel like my intelligence is being insulted for EA thinking that commercial would influence my buying decision. Who the hell does EA think they're fooling?

Understandable but you gotta know this is going to happen...this is why we can never enjoy abything for what it is becuase everyone on this board are experts :lol Which is why we are stuck doing civilian jobs and you are where we would like to be Like i said i believe in Madden...i just can't wait for E3...which is going to be even worse becuase if there isn't a playable demo, heads will roll...

I think the whole thing has backfired on EA a little. They DID get a ton of awareness and anticipation going for the "next gen" Madden, but the whole setup (visual target) with the teaser pics and all has just made things overall less impressive than thay would have been had they just announced the showing of the commercial and shut up until after showing it.

It's not that it looks bad at all IMO.

The competition is worse now...becuase there is nothing to compare to...Microsoft would benefit from having a second OS competing with them but look how hard it is to please people when it's just them...it's that much harder IMO. The preview is just to get us going in terms of what WILL be...EA would not be stupid to show this and not have a disclaimer if they didn't think they can do this or much better...hell i can see people saying that the in game stuff is CG and the CG was first gen stuff :lol EA isn't telling you this is next gen Madden and buy our game, they are saying " this is a huge step from you have been used to and here's a tase...but if you think this is something wait til you play it when it will be 3X or more better"

For a straight CG it was patethic, laughable, high-school work at best. Compare this to Blizzard's CG (or even that Nike ad) to see what I'm talking about.

For a CG representing IN-GAME REAL TIME GRAPHICS it was very good. We haven't seen this kind of gfx in this generation sport games (I'm excluding Doom 3's and Far Cry's models).
And there were definetly some in-game moments in there (with the menus).

Still I don't really grasp the idea of showing a sub-par CG that promotes in-game graphics. Either make a kick-ass CG or don't make anything at all.

I see what you mean but a kick ass ultra real CGI movie would probably surpass anything that Next Gen could ever do...what purpose would that serve? Look at God of War, some of thier CG used low poly models to make it close to what the game looks like in real-time but it also had kick ass CG when it called for it...especially in flashbacks....all this ad was meant to do is give us a tatse of what in-game could be like RIGHT NOW come Nov it will be better espcially with all the mo-cap in place, the ESPN stuff...the particle system etc.

Cause Nathkenn already said that it's an unfinished product. It may look and animate better but it's not done, so there are things that would look like shit as well. I agree with those who are impressed with the modelas and hate the animation, but with how good the Madden series has done animations, I am optomistic that they'll be much smoother.

I can see there's some tremendous amount of detail going on, what with the crowd being fully 3D and the cool smoke effects, but the players look terrible and the animation is laughable. If this is next-gen, what a waste. EA needs to hire new artists and animators, because this is pretty pathetic. I mean, honestly... does anyone think the animation looked good?

I know next-gen can look way better than this. It just takes talent.

that's not the card EA is playing. Who what's its worth.. you should replace the KNOWN with lies and UNKNOWN. We didn't know til this ad fiasco played out. Its all smoke and mirrrors. The casuals are probably out shooting their rifles in the air in celebration of this ad. Because they won't know its all art/CG. :lol :lol are we damage controlling EA?

Not that I could do any better, but a lot of the motion was crap. Even the facial animation (the grimace) looked like it was just going between two morph targets and then stopping.

I think the snow effect was there just to add an extra layer and draw attention away from how underwhelming it looks.

Strip out the temporal motion blur, and what do you get...?
