That's a damn good price. Wonder if that means anything for how "AAA" or not it is, for lack of better words.

Or perhaps they are afraid it won't sell super well or something? How well did the previous games sell?

Mafia Definitve Edition released at $40 and it was solid 12 hours or more if you went collectible crazy.

This is most likely along the lines of that (linear narrative action with a faux open world city backdrop) and that's totally good with me.

Was interested but was going to wait for a sale. It's $49.99? Maybe I'll buy day 1.

I'm guessing this is probably a 25-30 hour or so main story, similar to Mafia 1.

Something tells me this will be a smaller game than Mafia 3. Though that's not necessarily a bad thing. Will wait for reviews with this one...

There is another 7 minutes video it's just not public right now. It's a developer insights which go deeper into what to expect from this game.

Waiting for August

Also gotta say between MindsEye and this I'm chowing down hard on these straightforward, non open bloaty, action titles this Summer. Good shit man.

And Gears Reloaded in August too! :messenger_grinning: :messenger_grinning: :messenger_grinning:

8-10 hours just like the first 2. tbh mafia 3 had like 8 hours of good content in it, the rest was bloat. So its good we back to linear storytelling

I already noticed two things in the first 15 seconds that bother me: a slow walking section and a traversal squeeze

Unfortunately, this trailer just screams mediocrity

Wish they would patch the last few titles up to 60fps on newer consoles as I really want to replay all these. Unfortunately they're all still capped at 30fps for some reason.

Definitely going to pick this up.

Not sure why they even called it Mafia, that trailer looked everything but.

Mafia 1 and 2 were great, 3 not so much. The open world, but especially insane repetitive nature of the gameplay loop ruined it.

The actual story missions like the one on the boat were great but the shit in between? Hell no. If the new one is like 1 and 2 it's go time!

Gonna wait for a discount, old times mafia story\location is not really my cup of tea, i prefer modern stuff, and i'm not a fan of faux open worlds.

Trailer look good tho.

Hopefully, linear, shorthish, and sweet.
Im game @ $50 to try this out. Always had some interest in the Mafia series. Maybe i start with the definitive though.

Having never played any of the previous games, this was my first time checking it out (Mafia definitive edition) ....while it was ok/good in some ways, I just never felt the "hook" to it, like I did with (some) of the Yakuza games...

[...] How weird

When he says linear rather than open-world, I believe he's talking about something akin to what you saw in the first two games. Although there were some "open world" elements - more in 2 than 1 - they were awfully limited. There wasn't much interactivity in the world, apart from the driving itself. You could stop at a gun shop, a gas station, a body shop, and a few other places, but that's about it (even less in the first game). It wasn't "open world" except in the sense that you could drive around and do a few minor activities. Almost all of the game was focused on progressing the storyline. No real side content (some via DLC).

I didn't play the third game - I tried, but it didn't interest me - but I believe it was more open-world than the earlier ones. That game did not do so well, so I imagine they are pulling back from that approach and returning to the structure of the first two games. That's how I'm interpreting it, anyhow.

This is good news to me. I am tired of how modern games throw so much "content" at you, as if more was better. I prefer a shorter, more focused, story-driven experience. Appreciate the price point, too.

Weird comparison. They're two completely different types of games.

Gameplay looks by the numbers but I love the setting, and the story and characters in these are usually great too.
$50 is a nice surprise too
