I don't think there was anything unintuitive about M14 draft. There were color balance issues (White was near unplayable and Blue was clearly the best even though I found the most success drafting permutations of Jund), speed issues and Slivers was a trap archetype (which is one example of the "obvious thing" being bad) but not what I'd call unintuitive overall. M14 was definitely better than M12 or M10 (I'm a bit hazy on how M11 compares to M14).
Blue in M11 was roughly as strong as Black in triple Torment.
Frank Karsten's limited pick list. Basically, "force blue/green."
A) Magma Quake, Spikeshot Elder & Tibalt lolA) What's in your Sideboard?
B) What Cube List are you using?
B) Cut Lotus Bloom
It's not a fuse card.
I'm thinking about getting back into the game(though I was never good in the first place) at a competitive level and I don't have any cards that will work in Standard. What would be a good product to start with if I wanted to put a deck together for FNM?
I like the monoblack Event deck for Born of the Gods. It has quite a few cards which are played semi-commonly in the format.
But then you have to play black.
Niv Mizzet seems pretty bad in here. He's a 6-mana 4/4, with no combo-win potential and very little synergy with the rest of the deck.
Of course, every blue card you cut makes Force of Will a little bit worse. That's a tough one. I might have tried to go mono-red, really; blue doesn't add much to this deck.
I'm pretty sure Opt, Stifle, Volcanic Hammer, Staggershock, Act of Aggression, Vexing Devil, Giant Solifuge, Niv-Mizzet, and I believe even Fire // Ice were not part of the latest cube list updated with Born of the Gods.
Tibalt sure as hell shouldn't be near a cube list.
A W/R Burn deck that can beat every deck in the format can be put together for like 10 bucks, too.

Link? I want to play Standard but don't want to acquire the cards. And I'm not trading Legacy stuff for Standard.

Pick order articles are only good for making arguments, and from there only good for first picks. JBT isn't the most synergy-oriented set ever, but synergy is important, and your first pick can be hugely informative to future picks beyond color.
Plus, he ranked Satyr Grovedancer over Sigiled Starfish. Dat man crazy.

2.) The only way to earn a 3rd round bye, starting August 30th, is to either be Gold, Platinum, or a Hall of Famer
He sure has WOTC's ear.As usual, you can blame Kibler for these changes
For the most part, it makes no sense for Pros to go out to GPs anymore, this gives them a little more incentive

If only they took the rest of the advice in that column, and made pro points scale with attendance.... The bye system change only makes it more difficult for players to get their first pro points, and that's a little bit sad.
I'd argue on the whole it's easier now to get that first bye than it was before

Yes. Z/Z/W fixed a lot of the issues that Z/Z/Z had.Was Zendikar a fun block?
Was looking through some of the cards and the flavor seems cool.
Nope, Priceless Treasures! That was Time Spiral innit?
It's block? lol that format is miserable.Going to my first GP tomorrow. Probably won't day 2 block so going to grind some modern and try and get a result in the 1k on sunday.

Zvi's PT victory is still the gold standard for deck constriction. He walked in there as the only guy playing his deck and beat everyone.Block Constructed is fine, usually, except in the cases where there's a single card that completely warps the format (Jitte, Bloodbraid Elf, Puresteel Paladin). In Theros' case, it's Elspeth.
Had fond memories of Invasion Block Constructed and Time Spiral Block Constructed.

My friend just gave me a box of old Onslaught era cards. Now to sort through them.
No, I didn't rip him off. I told him how much the cards I saw were worth.
