Felidar Sovereign getting reprinted, downgraded to rare.

On the lookout for an obnoxious Mastery of the Unseen deck now.

Always liked Felidar Sovereign, though I don't think this was a constructed reprint, just a really cool card for EDH
But they printed a flying mystic snake in better colors!
I think the condition makes it unplayable. It's completely unreliable.

I actually like the design of Herald of Kozilek in the bigger picture of things. They've been playing up the artifact-matters theme in red and blue for the last few years and it works really well for that. Also, free Ghostfire Blades seems fine.

But not nearly as narrow. With Devoid being everywhere I could see this effecting 80% of your deck.

Or you could build an entirely Eldrazi and artifact deck and have it affect everything. It can even reduce the cost of future copies.

It's odd that they'd make a converge card that's basically just sunburst, but it's probably just a one-off thing.

I get the Elf but that cost/ability design is just some gobbledygook.

Okay really it's just sunburst. Like, the card would work fine if they simply called it sunburst.

I'm guessing there are other converge effects that do different things than +1/+1 counters.
This is the first one that has counters at all

Now for that Lotus Cobra downgrade
Cobra of Vigor G
Creature - Snake Druid Ally
Landfall- Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, untap target land.

Let's make Amulet Bloom more consistent!

Why not just be cool and reprint it as is? It's not too powerful for Standard, is it?
With fetches it lets you play 4 drops on turn 2.

Or 5 drops if you happen to start with 2 in hand.
Disregard; always thought it was a 1-drop.

yeah, but consider the other cards.

3/4 scry engine
3/2 flyer gain a life each turn
give all your creatures double strike, possibly over multiple turns
2/2 flying that can grow bigger

it's not as narrow as dragonlord's servant, but it's narrow.

I look forward to seeing a janky brew of Alhammarret's Archive + Feed the Clan + Felidar Sovereign.
I think he's more likely to show up in Jeskai decks. Mastery of the Unseen, Jeskai Charm, Seeker of the Way, Arashin Cleric, Ojutai Exemplars, Soulfire Grand Master, Ojutai's Command, Wingmate Roc. There's a solid amount of life gain in Jeskai colors.

He's completely redundant in that case though. If you actually pop up to 40 off of lifelink, your opponent is either dead or close to it.

I'm already thinking of a Simic brew with Kiora and Double Eternal Witness. Sultai seems legit so far though.

I get that "any card" is way better than "creature card," and it sticks around, and attacks, yada yada, but I can't help but compare this mythic to Deadwood Treefolk - an uncommon.

In other words, it really doesn't "feel" mythic.

There is a pretty big difference between Raise Dead and Regrowth.

Counter target spell with a prime converted mana cost unless its controller pays 3.

Not content with teaching people vocabulary, algebra, and finite state machines, Wizards has decided to educate players on number theory as well.

Considering we aren't going to have a playable way to destroy lands in Standard, I'm glad these manlands are a bit weaker than the WWK ones

Void Winnower is just a bunch of random words put on the card. Like what's even the flavor? Give me Artisan of Kozilek any day of the week. Winnower is a card in desperate need of Annihilator if I've ever seen it :/

Also from the OP changes announcement- Grand Prix New York is actually in New Jersey.

No idea why they aren't just calling it GP NJ, especially since the last GP NJ had over 4000 players

and with that the chances of the u/r manland being in bfz diminishes

it will appear in the second set which will drive up the prices of individual cards because of lesser demand and no super mega mythic lands to cover up the expected value

fuck me

I kind of like it. The Eldrazi are messing up the natural order of the world so much that natural stuff doesn't work but the weird stuff does. Ya know the odd stuff. It is kind of the same joke as Gilt-Leaf Winnower with "square" p/t representing natural beauty.
