I believe it will cost the price of the Intro Pack, so something like $11.99

That's not too bad. Around the price of a theme deck, right? At least it was in 2003. It's a 60 card starter deck, right?

Ugh can't stand players who will drop bc there concerned about lowering their "rating". They take the fun out if fnm. We had 4 people drop because they were losing tonight and had to play against scrubs.

Swept my FNM draft 5-0 with a ridiculously synergistic red-blue-black deck. Nice way to end Scars block draft. I really enjoyed this format once it stopped being triple Scars. Probably my favorite draft format that I've played so far.

Now for the prerelease this weekend! I've had pretty poor luck in sealed for the most part. But it's a core set, so it should be pretty straightforward. Hoping to open new Garruk. He's absurdly powerful.

I've only played one prerelease but my luck was equally as bad. I got 2 Myr Superions and I one creature that could produce mana. :lol

I slept in, and therefore will not be making my store's prerelease. Damn. Sleep felt good, though.

You can't stop by in the afternoon? It has to be this morning? o_O

Look up the event times at your local store, so you know when they're running stuff. The place by me is doing open dueling in the afternoon, yours might as well.

So just got back from pre-release (EU), was definatly fun though unfortunately some dudes there where definitely to fanatic/self-obsessed to be interesting to play against or have small-talk with. For what should be a more casual-prerelease it definitely wasn't so here and there.

As far as pulls I was a bit slow and by the time I opened my first pack several people around the table had already pulled Jace's, Titan's and a Gideon so I kinda knew there wasn't going to be a mythic bomb in any of my boosters. Ended up pulling;
- Wavestorm Surge
- Royal Assassin
- Goblin Chieftain
- Reverberate
- Druidic Satchel
- Redirect
- Solemn Simulacrum (foil)

As I also pulled a few goblin's and lot's of black/red bloodthirst monsters (and a Sengir Vampire) it seemed logical and fun to try a bloodthirst strategy. Despite this fairly simple idea I found it a nightmare to build the deck in time. Everyone around me was so much faster that I immediatly felt out of my depth. Somehow I was able to get something together before the time ended.

First game I actually went 2-0 against red, black, blue control deck focused on Grim Lavamancer (which he also got out in both rounds). My deck was a bit faster I guess and the Goblin that deals 1 direct damage to the player was able to enable all my bloodthirst guys and take alot of life away from him. Both times he ignored the goblin and focussed on other dudes and that definitly didn't do him well in the end. The Wavestorm Surge turned out to be my biggest bomb ending both games fairly easily.

After this I (potentially stupidly) added some blue splash for more control and removal. This might have slowed my deck down to much as I went 0-2 in the next round against a rather powerfull white-green regenerate/flyer/lifelink deck with a blue splash. In the first round I managed to get him to 6 life's before he got out Alabaster Mage and enabled lifelink on his regenerative-flyer. From there my 20 lifetotal fairly quickly went to 0 while he went up to 30. Second match he turned up with a Jace which I had not answer to and in 3 turns he had milled my deck.

I then went 2-1 against a really slow blue-black control deck that had a hard time dealing with the burn/bloodthirst rage. Again Wavestorm Surge won me a match. I did take out the blue splash after loosing at first.

4th round I ended up against a mana-ramp deck with a Prime-evil Titan, Gideon Jura and a Dungrove Elder. It was actually terribly close all three matches though it ended up 1-2.

Last round I played a almost scarily similar red/black bloodthirst deck and again it was really close with a 1-2 in the end. Wavestorm Surge again my saviour in my win.

Ended up somewhere in the lower middle of the pack and made up for my mediocre pack pulls with a Inferno Titan.

Also pretty much decided against playing draft for now. Though I stood my grounds I felt a little out of depth during construction and I would absolutely hate to pull a Jace or Titan and have to see someone else take it away after the rare-redraft. Sitting in the middle of two guys pulling Jace and Titan+Gideon was not what I was looking forward too either.

Did a prerelease last night. Went 2 -2 as I got Jaced twice. It was ugly. I pulled 2 Adaptive automatons, which I really wanted, and an Inferno and Primeval Titan lol

I had to choose between the prerelease and between an SSFIV local tourney. Went to the SSFIV tourney, needless to say, I lost in the first round, haha :D

Went, but apparently they aren't doing open duels because they don't have the intro pack because it "doesn't make them money." WTF? I understand their a business, but to be that blunt and honest? Just... wow. So I didn't get the promo card or anything along with it, a total waste of time.

Pisses me off to go out there because they can't update their goddamn website or e-mail me further information just to have it be a waste of time to go out there thinking it'd be a decent two-three hours of card playing with the new set.

Worst. Sealed pool. Ever.
No burn
No lockdown
No counterspells
One bomb spell (Sorin's Vengance) that saved me one game and prolonged a slow death in another.
No blue or red flyers; a couple white griffins and a couple Devouring Beetles and an Vampire Sengir
Three (three) removal spells across three different colors: Oblivion Ring, Plummet, Deathmark

I ended up piloting this red/black aggro thing that hoped to god the opponent didn't draw any answers and fell completely apart when they did. In retrospect I should have thrown in white as well, but my blue and green pools were terrible for Limited

There is a bright point: I got a foil Chandra, which I'm pretty happy about.

Went 4-2 with a Red/Black aggro that had no Rares and won 6 boosters. Got no cards I was looking for though, who pulls a Glacial Fortress AND a Birds of Paradise in a sealed deck tourey? Curse my luck!

:( @ you guys getting to play.

SMH for Mega Comics and Games. :|

So you where actually trying to playing the Chandra+Sorin's Vengance combo?
Did you actually manage to get that off once?

Funny that red/black aggro seemed to be such a popular choice btw.

Yeah, I was running both Chandra and the Vengance. Unfortunately Chandra got Mana Leaked three different times by two different decks and the best she did for me was ping a few people a few times.

My rares were:
Birds of Paradise
Sorin's Vengeance
Druidic Satchel
Visions of Beyond
Honor of the Pure
Doubling Chant
foil Chandra
Freaking Doubling chant is useless in sealed and constructed... Stupid card. I pulled that to. Dat Foil Chandra though... *daydream*

Oh yeah, that Doubling Chant is going straight into a few decks I run. Grabbing a second Essence Warden, Mycoloth, and Sporesower Thallid all at once is going to be fun in my Sap deck.

I got an abysmal Sealed pool for the main event today and ended up 0-2 drop. Luck of the draw, it happens. I then played in a draft where I got an awesome RG deck (multiple of: Act of Treason, the +4/+4 thing, the 4/4 tramplers, 3/5 deathtouch, and the 2/5 spider citp destroy a flyer, as well as the 6/6 bloodthirst 6 dragon and plenty of sideboard tech) and rocked that shit. I ended up with a few draft sets and a great day. One of our friends graduated high school a few weeks ago and his party was today, so he showed up a few hours late with a bunch of bbq chicken, which went amazingly well with the honey whiskey we already had.

So I ended up pulling a Jace at the pre-release today. Just about the only good rare card, and it was in my last pack too, things were looking a bit grim. I also pulled a Phantasmal Image (I believe that's what it's called. The Illusion Clone). Anyhow I ran into a bit of a problem with the Phantasmal Image and was wondering if you guys knew the actual rules here. Heres what happened:

My opponent played a Frost Titan. I play Phantasmal Image the following turn, cloning into a Frost Titan. I have the new equipment boots that when give your creature haste and hexproof. I equip them onto the Phantasm Image to give it Hexproof. My opponent says that doing so would cause me to sac the Phantasmal Image, since equipping it would be causing it to be the target of a spell or ability. Is this true? Is equipping something a spell or ability? (The judge there ruled that equipping is NOT a spell or a ability, and is equipping, however he didn't seem too sure.)

I went 2-2 and 3-1 so I got 2 free packs. I misplayed 3 times in a row to go 2-2 and in the first prerelease. I was so pissed, I should have easily won that game making me 3-1. I was destroying that guy. I got mostly shit cards. I got a skinshifter that helped a lot in my first and then a chandra in my second. The rest were meh rares but I got a Gideon in my 2 prize packs so that balances it out I suppose. And act of treason + fling is probably the most satisfying feeling every in limited when you use it on their bomb that they should be wrecking you with.

Went 2-3 tonight. Lost twice to bloodthirst'd fury born hellkite. Bloodthirst is an awkward mechanic.

I'm liking bloodthirst a lot so far. Changes the complexion of a game a lot and makes you reconsider letting 1/1 creatures through.

Judge was wrong. Equipping is an activated ability and it should have killed your illusion.

Judge was wrong at mine too, he tried to tell me that arachnus web is only destroyed at the owner's end step if the creature is 4 or greater. Totally screwed me in one game.

Yeah, used that to deal with a particularly annoying Cudgel Troll by feeding it to my Swarm

I did it on a grave titan and a couple other bombs that people drew. Such a fuck yeah feeling after you kill something that should have sealed the game. And whatever the sword that destroys everything but it is the most annoying card ever. Feels like your opponent is trolling you when they use it.

You can pump the creature you make unblockable with goblin tunneler right?
Yup. That's why the Tunneler combos so well with the Devouring Swarm. I ended a game that way, by swinging through for five unblockable.

Holy shit, I didn't see that swarm card at all yesterday. I'm surprised I don't see tunneler for infect decks more also. Seems like it would be beastly in a red/green infect deck.

Alright as I posted before I've always wanted to try this shit, but never had a chance. So I took the advice of the thread and got DOTPW 2012 on Steam along with a buddy who's played before. Gonna do the SP, and my vent friend's who have played said they could answer my questions as I go.

Then if I like it I could always graduate to the physical cards later on. Downloading as we speak!

Sweet! Tell us how it goes.

Little confusion here, hoping for some clarification:

So I just ran into a card called Omen Machine, for those who don't know it's an artifact and reads;

"Players don't draw cards.
At the beginning of each players draw step, that player exiles the top card of his or her library. If it's a land card, the player puts it onto the battlefield. Otherwise, the player casts it without paying its mana cost if able."

Now i know exile was introduced to replaced 'remove from game' and what i don't understand is, if you don't have to pay any mana costs, what is an example of when you would not be able to play a card while this artifact is on the field?

Hm? I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Land cards get put onto the battlefield, and everything else you play for free. In this case the removed from game zone acts as kind of a storage buffer from which the cards immedietly return.

Yes but the last part of the card says "player casts it if able", what i'm asking is does anyone know of a situation in which a player wouldnt be able to play a card

4-1'd my Sunday Pre-release to finish in 4th place. I had the worst rare pulls ever (2x Worldslayer, Rootbound Craig, Mind Unbound, Personal Sanctuary, Grand Abolisher), but was able to piece together this:

2x Greater Basilisk
Stingerfling Spider
Phantasmal Dragon
Chasam Drake
Acidic Slime
Brindle Boar
Jade Mage
Merfolk Looter
Crumbling Colossus
Skywinder Drake

Mind Unbound
Unsummon
Elixer of Immortality
Turn to Frog
Frost Breath
Rampant Growth
Ponder
Manalith
Trollhide
Fireball
Archnus Web
Mind Control

Rootbound Craig
Mountain
8x Island
7x Mountain

Relevent Sideboard: Plummet, Flashfreeze, Ice Cage, Negate, Unsummon

Chose to Draw every chance I got (and most opponents decided to play), and won most of my games by out card-advantaging people and rebuying my bombs (fireball and Mind Control) with the Elixer. Best win of the day came when I Mind Control'd and Azure Mage over a Serra Angel late in the game, and drew 7 cards off it before Fireballing him to death.

Hm, good question. You can still play spells with invalid targets, they just fizzle. I think an opponent could respond to the exile effect with something like Silence, but I'm not sure.

Q: I used to be big into magic and I played from around the end of revised up until the Urza block rotated out of type 2. I would like to play again, but am not interested in physical cards. Is MTG : Online the best outlet? I don't necessarily mind buying virtual cards. When I looked into it a couple of years ago, the consensus seemed to be that it was too buggy. Also, does it run on Mac OS?

Ah, that makes perfect sense, thanks very much

I have a question with chancellor of annex. It has reveal in opening hand and counter opponents first spell unless they pay 1. Now if I reveal 2 do they have to pay 2 for the first spell or it's countered? I'm assuming it stacks right?

Yes, it stacks. Same with the other Chancellors.
