What about 1 Skittles and 1 Metamorph out for 2 Livewire Lash? Boosts creatures slightly, and offers some semblance protection from removal spells (since they'd be pinging themselves for 2 poison)

I was thinking about making a BG Infect deck, but I know shit about green infect creatures. I think I would like a very aggro infect deck, based mostly on creatures, with just a few removals here and there.

Plague Stinger
Necropede
Glistener Elf
Phyrexian Crusader

+ Giant Growth, Mutagenic Growth, Titanic Growth and the like, and some removal.

Works wonder. Never understood why Infect never took off in tournaments though

In the case of mono-black, from what I can tell the reason its doing so well right now is the lack of flyers out there, and dismember falling out of popularity (thank you titans :P). That and Lashwrithe being insane.

The hard part with B/G is pump spells are so much weaker now. Before we had Giant Growth, Groundswell, and Vineswood for green. It was possible to get turn 2 kills. T1 forest, Glistener Elf. T2 forest, swing, 2 groundswell and pay 2 life for Mutegenic Growth, dead. Combo I pulled off regularly. It simply allowed you to kill so much faster for so low cmc.

Now you only have Mutegenic Growth for only 2 extra dmg or Titanic Growth for 4 but at cmc of 2 I think. It just takes a little longer to kill now and I think other decks have better late game options than B/G infect.

I just reminded myself of Kessig Wolf Run. I should add 2 or so into my R/B/G infect deck and see how that goes!

Just so you know, a sideboard must have 0 or 15 cards XD

A sideboard of 7 is, I'm pretty sure, not allowed in official tournaments.

There has to be something else that you can throw in there, man. No use in completely wasting sideboard slots. Statistically, sideboarded games are actually more important since you always play at least the same amount as un-sideboarded (1). Sideboards are incredibly important.

Put something useful there. You have to have some cards that are specific as hell. Might be useless, but you will definitely be thankful when you do need that red only removal or anything like that.

I've been doing weekly Innistrad drafts of 5-6 people.

The last two weeks, someone drafted Green/White and stomped on everyone else.

It seems there is a lot of cheap synergy between:

Avacyn's Pilgrim - http://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=243212

Travel Preparations - http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=220026

Midnight Haunting - http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=221214

How can I best stop this (other than draft it myself)?

Geistflame, Claustrophobia, Avacyn's Priest, Bonds of Faith.

Basically, you need creature removal/lockdown, or fliers of your own. The turn 3 spirits turn 4 double Travel Preparations is a game winning combo if the other player can't immediately answer it.

In my experience, G/W is by far the most synergistic colors, which is why they're always strong decks. You should look into G/W unless you get some really good cards for R/B/U. Even then, stay ready to splash white. It is a really flexible color, providing evasion, removal and fatties all with one or two plains.

Two similar Mono-Black Infect decks placed in the top 10 this past weekend. I'm running the 5th place version of the deck this Saturday just for kicks. I have no idea how I'll do, and don't really know what to expect out of the meta, but it should be fun anyway.

I'd love to try some form of a Wolf Run deck, but I don't have any Garruks/Swords or the Thruns. Price fluctuations like that are guaranteed to keep me out of Standard forever, unless I luck out with the cards for a "cheap" deck like the aforementioned Infect.

I'm still annoyed that I traded my Liliana of the Veil for $30-ish worth at a prerelease. I definitely wasn't expecting a price hike to $80 (it's going down again now) :(
I traded my foil for 2 regular Lilis over the innernets. I don't like trading planeswalkers so close to release unless it's for another new planeswalker with potential, because they don't start to drop until a few months later and they spike upward for speculative reasons - her value jumped so high because everyone was jonesing to re-create Solar Flare, which at this point isn't the dominant deck people were expecting. She'll fall back down to earth sooner than later.

I'm disappointed that no one's using Garruk the Flippant. Maybe he'll get a bit of the spotlight come Dark Ascension or the final set. I've got 3 just waiting to be put into some kind of deck!

Sideboard has 2 island now. :p
Which is actually legit, because I'm running 14 swamps and 10 islands.
Plan of the deck is to open with cheap infect creatures and control only the mid/late game and it's been working even a bit better then predicted; but if I feel I need to control earlier, I take out expensive counters like Fuel for the Cause and some of whispering specters in favor of more mana leak, more negate and 2 extra islands in exchange of 2 swamps.

I don't think it's near $80? $40 at tcgplayer, $60 at overpriced SCG, and I think it maxed at around $70 at SCG.

Thank the good lords they didn't make Snapcaster a mythic.

here's a rules/etiquette question:

if you tutor up a card with given conditions, ie search for land/creature/etc (and excluding diabolic tutor effects), do you have to reveal it? some cards say you have to reveal, some don't. if you don't have to reveal it, then it's opportunity to cheat, eh?

I think every card that tutors a specific card type requires revealing. That's kind of the point of something like Diabolic/Demonic tutor. Which ones are you thinking of that lets you tutor only one type of card but doesn't require reveal?

i can't remember what card it was. might even have just been gravedigger.
it's just that my friend has a habit of silently playing his cards and sometimes i don't catch things

I was all set to play some serious Vintage this weekend and then got dragged out to be on call for a situation at work. :( Demars' Vintage Snapcaster Control deck is awesome.

Which ones are you thinking of that lets you tutor only one type of card but doesn't require reveal?

Generally speaking, the Black tutors don't cause a reveal provided that the card doesn't require you to tutor a specific type of card. Infernal Tutor does require a reveal when you cast it when not Hellbent, for example (since you have to meet the tutor criteria).

For the best understanding of why some cards require a reveal and some don't, refer to the difference between Mystical Tutor and Vampiric Tutor.

Some people just forget that you have to reveal (in appropriate cases). I have a friend who plays a Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas deck and he NEVER reveals when he uses the +1. I of course ask him to reveal it every time he uses it, though. I agree that it could be used to cheat. Just keep a close eye on what they are doing. You could even ask them to more clearly state what they are doing in a turn instead of just quickly burning through their turn as fast as possible.

Funny yall mentioned G/W earlier, I build a budgeted G/W token deck last night and it was consistently beating out my buddies Vamps/Bloodthirst/Poison/Burn/Illusion/Zombie decks which wasn't so budgeted. It pretty much lost when they were able to out ramp me. Going off my casual play, G/W seems to be pretty dang strong. And to imagine my budget deck would be that much stronger if I added Bladeholds or that white PW chick.

Edit*
Question: If you play the flashback of Travel Preparations, will it give a counter to Shrine of Loyal Legions (white shrine)?

G/W Tokens is one of the strongest decks in the current metagame. And pisses me off to no end as a RDW player >.>

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but no it wouldn't. You're still flashbacking a green spell, even if its flashback cost is white. Flashbacking doesn't change the cards color.

Thanks for the help. Drafted G/W this week. Only lost because of a bad draw.

My new problem is boredom of Innistrad. I think I'll be trying to play some other archetypes but I'll know that if I see a strong card for that archetype, I have to take it.

Travel preparations is awesome. There are a few sweepers that would work well...just make sure your curve is lower than normal so you can survive the early onslaught.

Also, first strike should handle his weenies.

All losses this FNM. :(
Sad day. People simply rolled over me with all kinds of decks, so I can't even say I got bad match ups. *sigh*
Back to the planning stage.

So. I pulled a grim tutor a few days ago out of a pack of Starter, and I am now one happy motherfucker. Any ideas on what I should do with it? EDH? Sell?

Congrats. If I didn't already have two I'd offer to buy it off of you. I'd recomend EDH, since tutors dont get much better than Grim in that format.

I've been out of the game for a decade and found a place near me that does tourneys, etc. on my day off work, so I might be getting back in. I remember all the basics; anything new in the most recent expansions that I ought to be aware of, since those are likely what I'll be playing with?

I'd sell unless you played competitively. :)

What do you guys think about this deck? It's a GP Hiroshima winning deck.

4 glacial fortress
4 seachrome coast
4 moorland haunt
11 plains

4 doomed traveler
4 champion of the parish
4 elite vanguard
4 grand abolisher
4 fiend hunter
4 mirran crusader
4 hero of bladehold
1 geist honored monk 4 honor of the pure
4 mana leak

Right now I'm playing U/B aggro and running GoST and Angelic Destiny.(didn't do too well this FNM...2-4) I'm not sure if I should give this one a try. The Fiend Hunter replacing O-ring seems like a weird call in a meta filled with removals and Wolf-runs with their Slagstorm.

I don't normally tread into this thread, but I've been playing MTG:DotP'12 on Steam.

Someone I was playing against said "Top Deck" which I think is the term for getting the right card at the right time and saving my ass. Then right before the end of the game they said "Small Play", but I have no idea what that means. So...y'know, what does Small Play mean? Were they talking smack on me or giving me a compliment? :lol

I don't know, but if you were using Jace's deck, that's probably means you're cheap.

Took second place at my local Game Day with my G/W Human deck. Only losses were to a mirror match, another G/W Human that took first. And I would have beaten him too if I could have lasted *one* more turn on game 3.

Either way, fun stuff and I'm loving how the Human Deck is performing. Just constant pressure with a bunch of crazy awesome low cost creatures.

Now to decide between taking it or my Infect deck to FNM next week

I am now converted :)

Bought my first Magic cards ever on Friday!!!! Bought the booster battle pack and been teaching myself how to play. Now I want to add more cards! Since I'm not going to be tournament competitive do you guys recommend 1000 card magic lots? If so do you guys know any good places that sell them evenly distributed or had a good experience with a certain seller? They are ganna be split between me and some buddies (if I can convince them to play lol). Been deciding between that or the deck toolkit.

Hopefully I can get some answers. This thread haa been great!

Really close to having my Elf Wolf Burn deck complete. I've been lucky so far not to have to spend money because of trading... all I'm missing are a few copies of Ezuri, finishing out a set of Rootbound Crag and three copies of Devil's Play. ^_^

If you specifically want to be tournament competitive, then you aren't going to be buying lots of random cards, you'll be designing specific decks and placing orders for individual cards. If you want to flesh out your collection you could buy a box of uncommons or commons (or a bunch of random cards, including rares, from various old sets) but I'd recommend asking at your local store when they run Draft and Sealed events, and use the cards you collect from that. That way is much more fun.
