I don't really care much for Nissa in this deck, with the amount of lands and creatures you're running, but the Blossoming Defense probably caught a bunch of people off guard. Protect your Glorybringers and fight Avacyn.

The only thing Surrak has over Samut is the colour Blue. Samut is so much stronger in every other regard.

Yeah, but Glorybringer already has Haste, so if you're fixing your draws with Scry you can already pop one off the top with Nissa if you're already that far up your mana curve.
I guess she can copy Rogue Refiners as sort of a (very) poor man's Torrential Gearhulk->Glimmer of Genius?

Nah man, Surrak can't be countered, is much more likely to deal commander damage with trample, and most importantly like you said, is blue.

Yeah, she's not great, but it just shows that the deck was pretty good even without the combo in it. (The benefit of the Glorybringer copy is that you get to exert the token so it's free removal plus 4 damage.)

Granting haste is leagues above any of Surrak's abilities. Blue is everything he has speaking for him imo. Temur has access to so many more powerful commanders too.

Definitely didn't expect it to run Saheeli. My super janky FNM list just swapped the combo out for ways to go infinite with Whirler Virtuoso.

I drafted an AKH deck that had 7 creatures, 2 Cryptic Serpent, 2 Enigma Drake and the return instant to hand guy, and everything else was Reduce // Rubble, Essence Scatter, etc.
It was really amusing and decent enough to 2-1. Sweltering Suns is just brutal if you open it.

The reason why EDH arguments are dumb is because of course there's a more powerful commander than whatever dude you want to use. It's a format that's as broken as your playgroup decides. You can just ruin your playgroup on a whim.

Can't decide whether to build my Abzan base into a more Black focused build (Grim Flayer, Kalitas, Fatal Push, discard spells) or go the CoCo route with the new combo from Amonket (with more focus on White/Green). Don't have the money for Goys or LotV's, but don't really need them as it doesn't have to be a top tier tournament deck. What do you guys prefer to play when playing Abzan?

If you knew him well, I'm sorry. I never knew my grandmas very well (well, I did one of them, but even still she was a very ruthless and hateful kind of Christian). My grandfathers even less.
If you can't get Goyfs and Lilis, I'd definitely go the CoCo route.
Samut is vanilla as hell tho. If you want to deal a crapton of haste damage, use Xenagos.
Xenagod doesn't give you white though, and a fires effect is quite strong to have in your command zone.
That's limited, right? If so, there should be plenty opened and sold to the dealers on site. You shouldn't have any issue finding them.
I wonder if their value will go down just at this event for them.. hmmmmmmmmmm

I don't think the Standard,Promo tangolands are cataloged anywhere. I want to buy a couple for various EDH deck but I can't find them for sale on magiccardmarket.

One of my friends is 10% done his all foil Amonkhet Cube already and I've barely even played since the Pre-release (Thanks Family who see a seizure, magic the gathering, and connect the dots together on one event)

I'm learning how to play and I'm building a R/G energy deck (I have enough cards to call it a deck, but now I need the expensive lands, Rhonas and Glorybringer), it looks simple enough to play while I learn but I dont know if the deck is too bad on this new metagame (Amonkhet).

Mark Poole has drawn so many iconic cards all the way from the beginning, Ancestral Recall, OG Birds, OG Counterspell, Balance, Howling Mine, Tropical Island, etc
Dude is an integral part of magic history.
His C16 basics and that Painted Bluffs are his best work yet imo.
I just built a midrange abzan for modern, Grim flayer, Fleecemane Lion, Seige Rhino, a couple Sorin, Solumn Visitor & Liliana Last Hope. I dont have any Goyf or LotV either, and I probably never will with the prices they're at lol
Edit: Forgot to mention it's a blast to play with, I have a playset of coco that I'm using in a 4 color Zombie brew
This is pretty much what it HAS to be - new frame old art (or just old card frame and art). But they'll probably screw it up.

In the vain of Amonkhet, I'd jokingly suggest
zombie slaves , because dear God organizing that by hand must be a pain.
Other idea would be to get bulk Sleeves in colors (WUBRG+Gold+Silver+Brown) and sort that way per set, though that'd probably be hideous. Put each set inside the corresponding Years Gift box or something, with the 4 dividers for the 4 sets

Holy crap, what a difference. You wouldn't even get a phone call back if you sent in a portfolio looking like the early MTG stuff. The bar is simply so much higher these days.
I like this personal piece from Poole quite a bit. He also has a cool southern accent which threw me off the first time I spoke to him.
