Major Square Enix Announcement Next Week

From GameSpot:

Square Enix to make major announcement

The makers of the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series will reveal plans for a new RPG next week. According to the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, Square Enix will be announcing a major role-playing game next week. The Japanese developer and publisher is no stranger to the genre, having crafted two popular RPG franchises, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Details on the game are understandably being held under wraps. Be sure to check back soon, GameSpot will reveal details on the announcement next week.

I'd like either of those:

1) a SOLID info that FF13 is going to be a PS3 launch title, no bullshitting, the numbered one not some crazy spin-off
2) new Chrono game for either PS2 or PS3

Go Chrono go!

But wait........I totally forgot about Code Age :( It will probably be this one since it has already been announced.
Noooo :(

I'm betting it's a Dragon Quest VI remake for PS2. Release this winter.

duckroll said it was a crazy unreliable rumor. remake = major announcement? Probably not.

edit: from a PS2 ign editor:
There are several unannounced PS2 surprises coming in the next few weeks.
I bet it's PS2 related. :D

Oh my god. Square-Enix, of all companies, are planning to release a new RPG sometime in the future? Whatever will be next? EA announces a follow-up to Madden? I'm on the edge of my chair here.

A Dragon Quest remake is always a pretty big announcement though.... plus DQV PS2 sold amazingly well, better than any non DQ or FF Square Enix game this gen (including Kingdom Hearts). I think it's likely... I wasn't basing anything off any rumors either, it just seems like a natural move.

Really what else could it be? Maybe Crisis Core FFVII or FFIII DS, but I'm thinking it's likely not handheld related. KH2 and FFXII are already coming and it's too early for DQIX. Lower tier stuff like Star Ocean, Seiken Densetsu or Front Mission isn't really "major" enough. I guess it could be something entirely "new", I've no idea what though. :/

I hope it's either:
1) A new turn-based RPG without Final Fantasy in the title
2) A direct sequel to: Valkyrie Profile, Secret of Mana, Vagrant Story or Chrono Trigger
3) A remake of Final Fantasy IV, V or VI

Never going to happen. MS would not have signed Sakaguchi if they already had Square on board. Politics you know...

You don't even need to go far. Square Enix can just use their "we develop for the market leader only" excuse like they have for the last 2 generations.

More FF7 spinsoff.
Indeed.
Well, not really. Full new game, true RPG set in FFVII according to the UK grapevine.
I'll not be able to dig in official channels here until Monday as in the UK, we get Friday and Monday around Easter off. Something to do with Jesus. And eggs.
Will report back then.

Could be alot things, but by big it would exclude quite a few as well if translated right. They were hiring for Mana game while back as while right? Though its hard get to excited they do mana justice with last gba game and expertimental PS1.

New tri-Ace game possibly? Radiata has been out in Japan for a few months...

ANOTHER FF7 spinoff?

Personally, I'd like to see some of their DS announcements...

An online FF: CC would get me to buy a DS finally.
It's approaching E3 so they need to reveal some of their DS titles.

Chrono game for any system is all good

A PSP game announcement would be ace too.

New franchise please.

So this is definitely for next generation, right? It's too late for this one and E3 is just a few weeks away so they can announce it next week and have it playable at E3 2005.

I thought "the makers" are working for Microsoft Games already :P

Haha, that's so misinformed. Unless you're trying to troll, then pardon me and continue on your way. :D

Sakaguchi hasn't "made" a FF game since arguably FF4. Oh and he also doesn't work for Microsoft Games. :D

Final Fantasy 13 offline for PS3

Final Fantasy 14 online for PS3

Dragon Quest 9 for PS3

Final Fantasy 7 remake for PS2

Final Fantasy 8 remake for PS2 ( would be awesome! )

It would never be total support. We are talking about a game or two. Crystal Chronicles and Wonder Swan support proves that they will support systems other than the market leader.
Futhermore the Mistwalker deal means nothing in regards to Square support. Microsoft would gladly have both on their system and Square isn't that petty. Mistwalker is probably not even on their radar (and won't be unless they have a major hit or two). Microsoft will have a major uphill battle but any support will be determined on merits of Xenon and all other issues (no matter how big or small) concerning it. The comment below shows that Square Enix is/was thinking about it, despite the absolute failure of Xbox in Japan. It shows that MS's change in attitude is what will really get them in the door at Square next gen. Heads of companies don't just throw around comments like that.

I do appreciate that there has been an evolution in the thinking as far as Microsoft is concerned. I think the next generation of the Xbox would fully deserve consideration.

The first 3 are almost a given: I'd say an offline FF, then an online one and an offline one again would be the best strategy (like they did this gen, only without a direct sequel...).

But with all the spin-offs of FF VII lately, I'd also put my money on a PS3 remake of FF VII, perhaps even at or near launch. Usually they're never able to launch a Final Fantasy game with a system, but when the story, core gameplay, level design, etc. are already done, they might be able to make it I guess. Whether it would be a good business move though, I dunno, considering the userbase would be very small of course.

a ps3 remake of ff 7 would be a good way to end all of this ff 7 rehashing. In fact, thats bound to happen, but i bet it going to be some announcements for ps3 generation.

Hahahahaha oh shit. I just realized something.

Announcement = In next week's Famitsu

Famitsu = Streets on Fridays

Next Friday = 4/1

Man, it's going to be a shithole here next week. I expect 36832756872364782 different announcements to be posted, and at the end of it 36832756872364781 people to be banned. :lol
