Major Square Enix Announcement Next Week

No, I don't know anything solid. Odd thing is, whatever this announcement is, it probably isn't in next week's V-Jump. The subscribers have leaked scans from next week's V-Jump including more ToL pics, but no SQEX info. :(

Chrono Cross showed that there should be only 1 Chrono game (not counting RD). No need to further ruin the original game with a new blasphemy.

Hahahahaha oh shit. I just realized something.

Announcement = In next week's Famitsu

Famitsu = Streets on Fridays

Next Friday = 4/1

Man, it's going to be a shithole here next week. I expect 36832756872364782 different announcements to be posted, and at the end of it 36832756872364781 people to be banned. :lol

Are you serious? Oh, man, I can't wait for next Friday... :lol

I wouldn't mind a DQ6r as long as it made it's way over here. But then again, I love the SNES version too much so who knows.

Deep down inside I'd love something original that has had as much development time into it that the older gems used to get.

I'd rather Matsuno go back to working on the Ogre Battle series than continue the FFT/VS storyline.
I agree. He needs to finish off 4 or 5 more episodes of the story. FFT can go stick it.

Final Fantasy 8 remake for PS2 ( would be awesome! )

yeah!!!! why don't we have characters like Laguna anymore? Especially scenes like Laguna meeting Julia at the hotel bar and getting leg cramps.........damn I love that game :)

Chrono Break, FF XI-2, FFCC would all be welcome.

FFXI-2 would just be another expansion. The game just came out a little over a year ago a sequel is not on its way yet.

All these posts and no one is hoping for a new Vagrant Story? :(

I, for one, would be quite pleased. :D

With the time FFXII is taking, though, it seems extremely doubtful. IIRC, the ending left plenty of room for a sequel, if they so desired.

North America got the game a little over a year ago. Japan has had it since 2003.

If there really is a new game announcement, ten to one it's either Seiken Densetsu or Code Age. As for Chrono Break... you guys really need to let go.

? Games today, including Square's, generally get more development time than older games ever did...

I don't think there will be another FFXI expansion this year. CoP isn't even near finished yet. Only 7 of the 12 chapters have been completed, and several areas, like Lower Promyvion and most of the Lumoria region, are still inaccessible. At the rate SE is going, they won't be finished with the CoP expansion till Christmas.

I don't think they would make another expansion for FFXI, ever. Too many Japanese players have already left - they wouldn't come back for an expansion because of the effort required to rebuild their characters. A new FF online game will likely come, but it's gonna take a few years, and there'll be a DQ online before that.

Hmm. A) there's no V-Jump next week (next issue is April 21), and B) there are no subscribers to Jump magazines. :) Do you have a copy of said scan I can see?

Yeah that one! Sorry I wasn't aware if there was actually Jump next week but the scan is new! :lol
OK, that's weekly Shonen Jump. Comes out every Monday, and is mainly a manga reader with a little fold-out game section every week (what you see there).

V-Jump is more of a videogame magazine for kids with a slant on manga. Comes out once a month, on the 21st.

Now you know...and knowing is half the battle!

Hence the "original" comment. If anyone can please correct me if I'm wrong, but has the Square teams (not Enix) got anything original announced? No rumours or trademarks please.

Well, to round up what we already know about...

-Advent Children: Final Fantasy VII (DVD/UMD)
-Ambrosia Odyssey (PS2)
-Code Age (PS2?)
-Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP)
-Dirge of Cerebrus: Final Fantasy VII (PS2)
-Drag-On Dragoon II (PS2)
-Dragon Quest Monsters (DS)
-Fantasy Earth: The Ring of Dominion (PC)
-Final Fantasy III (DS)
-Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
-Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (DS)
-Front Mission (mobile)
-Front Mission 5 (PS2)
-Front Mission Online (PC/PS2)
-Fullmetal Alchemist 3: Kami wo Tsugu Shoujo (PS2)
-Hanjuku Hero: 7 Nin no Hanjuku Eiyuu (PS2)
-Kingdom Hearts II (PS2)
-Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song (PS2)
-Seiken Densetsu (DS)
-Slime Morimori Dragon Quest 2 (DS)

...anything else?

I'll second a domestic Slime Mori Mori.

Other than that, I'd be more than happy if they just announced some graphically improved PSP ports. I'd love to see ports of FF7-9, Brave Fencer Musashi, Vagrant Story, Einhander, Tobal No 1 and 2, Xenogears, Bushido Blade, Legend of Mana, etc. Hell, I'd even take Chrono Cross. Yes, I am shallow and easily bought, but I like my nostalgia, and I like it on shiny screens.

Sequel to FFXI :)

FFXI just came out not even 3 years ago, and (successful) MMORPGs don't get sequels that quickly.

About the only things you should expect out of FFXI in the near future is another expansion pack (or two, or three...), or a next-gen update for console users. Anything "sequel" wise will be another 2-3 years from now, if not longer. Well, unless Square Enix is stupid. ;)

I totally agree. I don't expect the next expansion pack until Spring/Summer '06, personally.

That's fine by me, though, as I just started over with a new character, so I have a lot (too much, really) of content to work through as result. :P

{Um...} {/wave} You may not be aware of this, but there are more than just Japanese players on the game. :P

The game has nearly 600,000 users worldwide, a number which will likely grow a bit with the "Return Home to Vana'diel" campaign, and the Asian launch. Square Enix isn't just going to sit around on it's ass and watch these players leave after they plow through the remaining content offered by Chains of Promathia, you know. No, they're going to do everything in their power to keep these users playing for years to come, which means expansion packs. Why anybody expects any different is beyond me.

Speaking of, what are you expecting? Them to make one of the most popular MMORPGs in the world, only to ditch support for it when it's finally available worldwide? That doesn't make any sense...

Nothing announced as of yet, which (as Azrael said) should be expected given the current situation with Chains of Promathia.

What Asian launch? It was rumoured a long time ago, but I don't know if it's really happening. And there's not going to be that many people "returning home" either, though many will consider it.

:lol We'll have to wait and see about that. I don't know where you even imagine the game going after Promathia, though. It's not like there's a ton of room for more content, and they've even said that officially ("Promathia fills up the rest of the Vana'diel map" was how the interview went).

Speaking of, what are you expecting? Them to make one of the most popular MMORPGs in the world, only to ditch support for it when it's finally available worldwide?
Hardly. But don't expect anything too exciting. The level cap will stay at 75, and there's only so much they can do with merit points - how many people are going to keep playing with no new magic and few new skills? It's not enough to just add a few new armour sets every three months, which is why numbers are already dwindling.
