Majora's Mask 3D |OT| Remakes are a Nice Thing to Have… Heh, heh

Man, to this day I don't think I have ever completed the Ikana Moon dungeon the proper way. I always run out of bombchus trying to break the ceiling in the last room. Thank goodness the song of storms glitch still works in this version.

Heh, I actually don't think the Zora swimming is that bad, except for the Beaver mini game, screw those camera angles. When I beat all 4 sets I felt like the freaking king of the world haha.

Finished it. Got all mask and heart pieces. I'm not going to bother with the rest of the fish right now. Ending was just as great as I remember.

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of the game but just watched parts of the Giant Bomb quick look (obviously not out of curiosity for how the game is), where I saw how to get the dance mask and then what to do with it. I then skipped ahead, because I didn't really want to see these things solved, and if there was more to the quest I would see it for myself. Well, there wasn't. Anyway, since I've now done it I was wondering if one of the bomber kids or a sheikah stone leads you to it. Thanks.

Glancing through this thread also isn't helping me solve a few things for myself, but, oh well!

I received a hint for that quest as one of my first hints

When is the best time to start doing sidequests (item requirements etc.)? I don't remember how they work exactly in this game. If I start one and can't complete it within the time limit, I have to do it all again, right?

The hints you get from the bombers tend to be ones you can currently do. So if you speak to them (they usually give a hint each every cycle) you'll have a list of objective you could try doing.

I adore this game and this remake. Now it's time to go for 110%, by catching every type of fish. There are 24 types of fish, if I recall correctly — 11 listed on the wall of each hole, plus legendaries (Lord Chapu-Chapu and the Great Fairy Fish). I need to fill out my chart with the 3D models of each!

The only good thing about the ice arrow change is that it signposts it for people who don't realize they can use ice arrows as platforms now to solve problems, but I think that is a minute benefit. Once you get em and do it once, it should be now a default thing in your list of tools, like the Lens of Truth or the instruments. Having trouble getting across a room? No invisible platforms? Give ice platforms a whirl!

So all in all, I'd say Goht is still my favorite boss. Twinmold and Gyorg aren't far behind, though. And Odolwa is still perfectly solid.

Twinmold is EPIC, from the sheer size of the worms in the first phase, to the kaiju-on-kaiju action of the second phase. However... the second phase is a bit clunky. Fun, but clunky. Still one of the better bosses in the Zelda series. And I love how they introduce the Giant's Mask there now.

Gyorg is also great improved from his N64 counterpart. The first phase is actually my favorite part of the battle. Super-satisfying feedback when you shoot him. The second phase is where things get a bit more iffy. It's an inspired concept, but RNG can lead to Gyorg stalling for time. There are times where I'm silently shouting, "INHALE!" It seems he's more likely to cooperate if you're closer to him...

Goht is my favorite because he's like a frantic chariot race. You're rolling along at top speed, along banked curves and off ramps, dodging lightning bolts and bombs and stalactites and kicked-up debris. Drilling into Goht and causing him to crash and expose the eye is one of those moments that never loses its charm. I had to fight him multiple times (for spring-related quests), but I didn't mind. He's so much fun!

Any tips on fishing? I've always seemed to have a hard time with these things going back to my N64 days with Ocarina. Sometimes I think I wiggle the lure too much and sometimes too little. I also never really understood the technique to reeling the fish in.

Really digging the high-quality Saria's Song/Clock Town/Song of Healing/Main Theme medley that plays during the GREZZO credits.

The way I remember it, you push forward and one of the buttons to "snag" the fish once the fish bites, and then you start rapidly reeling it in while tugging in the opposite direction it's trying to swim.

As for more specific tips, check out this guide on how to catch each type of fish. Note there are two pages — pg. 1 for the swamp, pg. 2 is for the ocean.

Ah thanks didn't know about the snagging. I thought they just sort of bit on the line and you start reeling them in. Do you know if it's advised to 'fast reel' with R+A or just use A on it's own?

The Snowhead temple is so frustrating.
If you're having a hard time getting back to the top after raising the pillar, remember the following:

- From pillar room, one floor above the lava floor, take the red door.
- Now you're in a small room with four doors. Take the right-hand door.
- Launch off the long ramp, past the ice enemies, and go through door straight ahead.
- Stand on platform, turn around, and shoot frozen eye switch with Fire Arrows.

This forms an elevator that provides an alternate way to the top.

Thanx! I'll follow your instructions carefully

there is a hidden wall in the third floor with a chest and flower in it and am guessing one of the fairies in it, how do I get there?

So, I've finished the first two dungeons and have only tinkered with one or two sidequests. I've played this game before. I have a 20-something hour flight ahead of me.

Think I can finish this game with all the masks in that time period?

Use the
Deku Flower
near the top of the dungeon to
float down
, or do a tricky
Bunny Hood
jump to get to it

Beat it? I'd say so. Side quests and optional content maybe not if you want to get literally everything.

Man, it's so satisfying to just replay events and do things differently. I just got done
doing Kafei and Anju's sidequest without giving Anju the pendant
. I feel like an awful person, but it's amazing to see unique dialogue for doing this. They put in a tremendous level of detail. I was not surprised but impressed that he still showed up and had tone-appropriate things to say.

I also really like that you can always see people walking to and from their activities in Clock Town, and they typically have dialogue in this traveling phase. It's great.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game. Up until some particularly not-fun sections which are infuriating me beyond belief. I'm referring to the actual final day which occurs on the
moon
.

I made it past the first child's room no problem. The
Goron
room took me most of last night and now I've spent the better part of the morning getting through the
Zora
room. This wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't run out of bombchus. I had already made my way through those rooms, but now have to do them again.

I know that I don't "have" to do them, but I really want the final mask before finishing the game. Oh well, overall still really enjoyed this game. It's now in my top 5 Zelda games for sure.

Just as a heads up since there is some misinformation earlier in the thread,

2D mode DOES apply anti-aliasing, helping relieve some jaggies.

I think those rooms would have been fine as optional challenges anywhere else in the game, but them being where they are really spoiled the endgame for me a bit. Very unnecessary imo.

I only played a couple of hours, and all I can say is, what a game. Feels familiar yet so different than any other Zelda.

10/10 beautiful remake would play again. Aside from the pointless, pointless Ice Arrow change, I think all of the other changes were for the better.

Nope, there was and still is a point to it. In the N64 version, the arrows could be used to easily glitch out of bounds in Great Bay, clip through the temple model in the distance, fall off the edge of the world, etc.

This wasn't an ideal fix, but it fixed both that and potentially a few other huge exploits. I wouldn't call that pointless, no?

Oh god...I never thought of doing that. As horrible as it sounds, I'm tempted to try that myself just to see what
Kafei says when he walks into Anju's room and she isn't there

So happy this finally got remade.

It's not a multiplayer game. Fixing a few exploits you have to go out of your way to use isn't a big concern.

About to do the Romani sidequest and I'm nervous. I just saved at the owl, though, so if I do mess up I can just reset. For now, I'm taking a break.

Managed to do a lot in an hour or so of playing, got the Zora Mask and the swimming is... disappointing. I might want to also switch the swimming around because the invertedness is awkward atm.

That's no excuse not to have a high standard and fix things like this. I'm glad they did.

Again, it is - or at least, it is if you care about whether your game is stable and bug-free and all that stuff. I know I occasionally poke fun at Nintendo, but they truly are one of the few companies left in this industry that seems to actually care about that sort of thing these days.
