Yeah that comment was curious, as it kind of goes against what people have been worried about. To me it seems like the main notebook changes are:

1. Record information about events once you experience those events, including maps
2. Ability to set alarms
3. Catalog "rumors," hints regarding incomplete quests

The alarm thing sounds pretty great, though I know we've heard about it before. But we were just recently discussing standing around waiting for something vs doing other things while waiting, I think the alarms really encourage the second way there. You don't have to worry about missing the thing you were waiting for while elsewhere, it'll make sure you remember.

Perfect. The 3DS is a portable system and they've made the game more portable, which is exactly what I wanted in the remake.
 
Financial Post (does this even count? :p) - 8.5/10

Majora’s Mask‘s time mechanic may still prove a little perturbing for players who don’t like repeating tasks or working under the stress of a timer, but there’s no denying the unabashed brilliance of its temples, nor its trove of fun and novel items and abilities. And it’s a nice little showcase for Nintendo’s new handheld hardware. By and large, this does not feel like a 15-year-old game.

And that makes it one of the rare remasters/remakes that should find an audience not just among nostalgic players looking to relive their gaming glory days, but also younger players who’ve likely yet to experience Link’s time-shifting quest.

So for those of you who have played through and reviewed it now, can you confirm if there is a Hero Mode or anything after completion?

I'm in the boat that the Ice Arrow change is disappointing. Too much handholding in that regard.

Yes, but how much do they appear? Do they only appear in certain bodies of water? Are the arrows useless outside of the temple now? Are there other restrictions? Did they loosen up something else about it for example does it use as much magic? Do arrows still freeze enemies in the same manner?

The gif shows sparkly water and a platform appearing. It creates more questions than it answers.
 
The ice arrow change is the first thing about this game I find somewhat disappointing. It's not a big deal though and my hype for this remake remains high.

I understand making changes to help new players, but seems silly to not give an option to play it with no changes.

I will give it a shot though.

The GameXplain video is excellent though.
 
Looks like this is shaping up to be a really great portable version of this game, completely removed from the currently available, playable, and original MM. That you can still play. On the Virtual Console even.

I find it interesting that so many threads have devolved into complaints about changes to Majora's Mask as if they didn't expect something like this to happen. MM3D is not MM. It's not. It's the same story and it will provide a similar experience, but if you find yourself frustrated by these changes, especially the ones concerning the save system and the Bomber's Notebook, then I don't think you wanted a 3DS version in the first place. If you're still skeptical, which I am still about a couple of things in this game, then you need to play it. With the way these reviews are looking, I don't think anyone needs to worry about wasting their money by purchasing this, even if they dislike this or that about it. If there are problems with some of these changes, it's not the end of the world.
 
Majora's Mask is the Game of Thrones of the Zelda world. Even though a lot of the changes are for the better or not even a big deal at all (like the Ice Arrows), purists are still going to complain anyway.

I realise this statement is going to be met with controversy but I don't care.

So good to see those excellent scores and good impressions overall. I've never had the chance to play Majora's Mask so this is going to be quite the experience to me and I. CAN'T. WAITTT! Too bad I would not be able to fully control the camera since I will be playing with a regular 3DS XL (I still have 0.005% of hope NoA will release the regular size New 3DS in America sometime soon...). Also I want to share my excitement cuz' I preordered the Skull Kid LE so ya' :D

Those reviews were all positive though. Pretty embarrassing for game reviewers.
 
All the changes sound welcome to me, especially for a handheld version of the game where I want to be able to close my 3DS and not worry about it for a bit. Zora change is annoying and pointless, ice arrows are understandable but not necessary, simplified save system is critical for handheld, song of double time is useful but divisive and I get both arguments.

If I want to experience the original version I'll go ahead and play it on my N64, and I probably will still go back to that version because it's a different game. I think the aim of MM3D was to reappropriate the original experience, not just drag an N64 game into 2015.

Seriously looking forward to playing this again. It's only been a couple of years, but I've not collected all the masks for some time, so I think I'm going to 100% my next run so I can see all the content again and look at the game from a new angle.

From what I've read it doesn't change that much, the original prompted a little message with a specific sound so I don't see the big deal about this one, it's the same.

The ice arrow though. .. uurgh...

It's easy. It opens up when events happen or you meet people, and it might say something through a prompt, but if you just don't pay attention to the prompt and keep pressing A, or whatever, it gets out of the way.

You are never required to read it or set an alarm. It's there for your use, and it pops up occasionally.

I'm guessing since we have not heard one thing about a hero mode that there isn't one. I really hope I'm wrong

So let's make them even easier. That'll solve the problem. I fear that Zelda U is going to have even more handholding than Skyward Sword.

Do the fishing holes serve a purpose? Did they relocate some of the heart pieces? If not, then I question why they wasted development resources on such a frivolous addition.
 
I remember as a kid I couldn't open the way to the fourth temple without using a guide, have they streamlined that process?
 
WTF at the ice arrows change. What the hell was the point of that? Looks like I won't be hopping out to the Great Bay Temple again.

I really, really wish this would have had very minimal changes like OoT 3D.

Oh, and the game tells you everything to do once you've found a side-quest item? Come on, why the hell would they do something like that after people complained about Fi? This is even worse.

Eh, they had the time and money and added it, i have no complaints. What else would they have spent it on? Getting the game out sooner?

That said, I'd guess all the new handholding in here is simply a direct result to criticisms from people who didn't pick up the original MM or never finished it. They're trying to appeal to THEM, not us, the people who already liked it as is. They figured they'd lose a very small portion of fans of the original with the new changes vs attracting newer players, which I'm ok with. They kinda suck for people who loved the original and how it played, but it's only like... a 5% difference overall. The rest of the game seems fine.

In the Gametrailers review, they specifically state that there's no Hero Mode or Boss Rush mode. I expected as much, but still a missed opportunity.
 
A lot of these changes look so much so for the better. Especially the new saving mechanic. Can't wait to pick this up on the n3DS XL.

The ice arrow thing is so whatever since you hardly even use that thing and the puzzles around it were boring anyway.
 
The Ice Arrow change is the first change that bothers me. I kinda liked the way it worked before. Still, its a pretty minor change.

That is my guess as well. It is not for us that loved MM but to appeal to people who never played it or never liked it.
I am still open minded though because I liked MM mostly for character interactions and that still seems to be the same.
