The eyewitness recanted her testimony soon after Fleming’s 1990 conviction, saying she had lied so police would cut her loose for an unrelated arrest, but Fleming lost his appeals.

What a great system we have.

Shit like this is terrible, but the part that's often overlooked is that the real murderer got away with it. Who knows how many more lives may have been ruined when the investigation stopped after this guy got railroaded through. The prosecutors that withheld that evidence need to serve out this guy's sentence.

I'm glad his mother was still around to see him get out though, got a bit misty at that part.
