Man dead after 'knife attack' in Woolwich

If it makes you feel any better, I'd imagine there's a few knocking about. Law of averages and all that.

I honestly doubt it. I don't believe you could set up a large operation like that here without someone snitching. Most of our mosques and Islamic communities cooperate closely with the authorities. People talk.

Do we know what's with the car crashed in the back?

Horrible all around. Poor guy :( RIP

Apparently they ran the suspected soldier over first, then got out and attacked him with the knife and cleaver.

Edit: My best friend was based at Woolwich for four years. Glad he's out now

its gonna get worse for the sisters.

we have been seeing Increased attacks on Muslim Women for a while now. EDF and there mug supporters will stir it all up.

That's the thing. Not commenting on this particular situation but those who orchestrate attacks aren't just about the terror. They're about devolving societies (especially in the West). Anarchists of sorts under an Islamic banner.

They do. These 2 guys were shot by the police.

I think the only reason those police were armed was due to the fact that they were probably military base police. I don't think bog standard English Police are armed - just airport and military police. On a regional basis they are starting to carry tasers though IIRC.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
This is just too fucked. I can't even think what to say beyond that. It's too fucked up.

Police can be armed if they wish and have the requisite training.

Most choose not to be armed though, thankfully.
That's slightly misleading (especially to the non-British people reading this).

The vast majority of police in England are not armed. If they wish they can apply to one of the armed units which are deployed to certain areas (airports etcs) and during certain events (like this one).

But they do not go back to their 'old' job with a gun.

I know, I'm from the UK. I was just (lazily) pointing out that the police in this country are armed when they need to be.

All forces, both met and county have many armed response units out at any one time. Always some on call 24/7 no matter the area.

What is even going on in here?

Suggestion for people making broad claims about Muslims etc: cite it. Cite sources and ideally statistics. (Daily Fail need not apply)

I'll be back to check your work later.

I don't know, last time I went to London (to see Primus last year) nearly every policeman was armed, if they didn't have a handgun they were holding an assault rifle. I walked up to one in the underground (huge guy with an mp5) and asked him where the fuck I was going, he just looked at me like I was a flea and told me to go away.

Probably just a coincidence that all three of the police I saw were armed though.

According to the BBC they used it to hit the first guy. Once he was down on the ground they got out and attacked him.

I've been shouted at and called a white bastard by groups of young Asians around the whitechapel area before, just as i walk home. Eid is always a terrible time in the area, kids hire limos and block up all the roads shouting outside the windows at people on the street. Whitechapel is also the area an Islamic group painted all billboards with women on to make them look like they were wearing a veil. It is not said much, but that area of east London has a real problem with rasict Muslim lads, as a while bloke I feel scared to walk around there.

Who took 20 minutes to arrive according to one eye witness. I wasn't for it, but this has seriously made me consider if I would support arming our every day police officers now.

The fact is that the vast, vast majority of officers don't want to be armed.

A 2006 survey of 47,328 Police Federation members found 82% did not want officers to be routinely armed on duty, despite almost half saying their lives had been "in serious jeopardy" during the previous three years.

Considering that the highly trained armed police are not want to shoot innocent people multipal times in the head without warning *cough*Jean Charles de Menendez*cough* I think that arming officers as a matter of routine is a recipe for disaster.

Armed police wouldn't have saved the life of the man that was killed by this nobhead today.

I don't think they should carry them on their person, but I do think they should have them locked away in patrol cars.

Well every Black and Asian dude over thirty has dealt with that on a daily basis for years before even by teachers at school. It gets better with time. Suck it up.

Over here in Denmark we also have a so called defence force but they never set their foot in areas with a lot of Muslims/immigrants.

Please do be safe everybody.

If that's accurate, it's seriously worrying. I understand that police arrived, then called in armed support (which would add to the waiting time), but this isn't the middle of nowhere, it's SE London...

No one should have to suck it up when it comes to rasict abuse, what a stupid thing to say. It was disgusting that immigrants were abused and it is no different for white people or anyone else to be racially abused. There is a real problem in the area and whenever it is mentioned people say oh yeah well white people were horrible to immigrants when they came over, that is no fucking excuse.

This isn't a common occurrence, though. I know of more cases where police went too far than I do of where armed units were necessary.

Oh, that's cool then. Nick should probably stop whinging because it happened to other people too.

That looks like bizarro world to me.
Indeed. It looks so much like a far right dream scenario that people don't take it seriously.

I see the ban hammer coming in this thread.
Certainly looks that way. A similar social ban-hammer stops most people talking about these issues.

An Asian guy I know told me an anecdote once about reading about a racist attack in his local paper in London. He was a bit of an angry brute and told me on his walk to the tube station the next day he was kind of "looking for trouble" (I know, wtf??). He'd convinced himself he was gonna meet this same racist gang and would proceed to "fuck them up". Loltastic, I'm sure.

Anyway, he didn't get set upon and to his consternation found out a short time later that the attack had been by a group of Asian lads against a white kid. It turned his world upside down for a few weeks and I'm happy to say he's a well rounded kind of guy these days. The dangers of angry teenagers.

Oh, also, I totally agree with your post.

At least there are more sensible voices coming out on my Facebook at the moment.

So far I've seen people condoning torture, bombings and violence - events like this really bring out the worst in people.

Of course, everyone is rightly angry but some of the comments have been nothing short of horrendous.
