If its District 9 WETA, great. Hobbit WETA, no thanks.
Peter Jackson probably had more to say about Hobbit CGI than WETA.

realism heh. Can't wait for them to give a very logical scientific explanation on how Superman gained his powers...if he even has them in this movie. Hancock 2

Weta's Joe Letteri on Zack Snyder's Man of Steel
Didn't know Weta was doing the CGI should be great.

Eh..I always took the "realism" quote as not a way to explain or ground Superman's powers but putting the fantastical in every day life, like say opening your door tomorrow morning and seeing a red and blue clad alien soaring through the sky....how exactly would you react?
I guess kind of how the book Superman: Secret Identity approach was.
Count me as one of the people who doesn't get this post. Hancock 2?
How you interpret that with Nolan"If you look at what Zack [Snyder] has done you’ll see that they’ve abandoned a lot of the pretense that was in the comics and asked “Can we still make this work?”
They’re sticking to realism as much as possible. Fantastic elements are still there but a lot of it that been trimmed back to make it feel as though this actually happened."

Sonically, this treatment of America comes across via a grouping of pedal steel guitars (instead of the usual string section), banging titanium and steel sculptures, and organizing a whos who of drummers in a 12-member drum circle, including Jason Bonham, Sheila E. and Pharrell Williams.
Weta didn't do the majority of the CGI on District 9. Only concept design and Physical props. If its District 9 WETA, great. Hobbit WETA, no thanks.
That seems like selective criticism, given everything else the creators of the film have said in the past month. The effects, even in the early trailers, don't exactly look cheap, boring, or silly like Hancock (still confused by the comparison).
Also, rereading your previous post ("powers, if he even has them") makes me wonder: have you even watched the trailers? There's a man flying above Earth, covered in flames without even blinking, and planets being destroyed. Seems pretty fantastic.

I think the Hancock comparison is pretty obvious...Hancock is a "realistic" superhero movie. A seemingly normal person struggling with super powers. It's stupid to assume MoS will be similar though.
The motto for "Superman: The Movie" was "Verisimilitude."
The pertinent quote:
The fact he's using pedal steel guitars and loud drums? Maybe my wish for something that was closer to Explosions in the Sky than anything else will come true!

Oh that's the guy playing zod? I hated his acting so much in Premium Rush..

He is a fantastic character actor. Boardwalk Empire, Revolutionary Road, and Take Shelter. He is truly great.
They're saving that reveal for the sequel.
... is that all you've seen him in?
Maybe. I've probably seen him in other roles but I didn't actually know who he was
Why was he so bad in premium rush
The BMX radical courier action hero movie?
Can't imagine why his heart wasn't in it.
76% on rotten tomatoes!
So because the premise of a movie is bad, the actor has an excuse to put in a poor performance. Got it.
Lighten up =D
He hammed up his role so much in Premium Rush. It was the only redeemable quality of the movie.
I actually thought his 'Bug' performance was decent too for a movie with such odd pacing.
Not sure if it's been posted or not, but the first Man of Steel TV spot was posted on the official FB page a few minutes ago:

While I like it, it almost seems like they're trying to hide that it's actually Superman. No real establishing shot of him other than the quick glimpse above the Earth, no shield at the end like the other promotional material, etc. But some great visuals nonetheless.
You kidding right? Dude in blue, red cape, symbol, clark kent, flyin.
Nobody is gonna be like "what the hell? who is this guy? new super hero?"
I'm not saying people are going to be confused. I'm just saying it seems that the TV spot doesn't really go out of its way to show this is a Superman film, for whatever reason. Either way, it's just one of many and there will be more that really hammer the Superman motif in. I just hope we don't have any promotional material with god awful pop music like Superman Returns.
