Man of Steel |OT| It's about action.

No doubt. I don't think these reviews are going to stop anyone from watching this movie. And for me personally, I'm loving the fact that there are some heavy scifi elements and space operatic moments in the film, which I understand is not everyone's cup of tea.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.
So damn polarizing. lol Wonder which way audiences will go.

I also wonder I'm actually going this weekend. Stupid AMC not letting me know when about these digital or imax showtimes. :/

Here in NYC it's almost like its not playing fucking anywhere on the upper east side. Fandango lists like two places in the city for standard viewing, 1 regular Imax showing on one day and actually nothing makes sense with the showtimes at all. Places I would expect to be showing it don't have it listed. It's like Imax 3D or nothing.

I'm not sure wtf the deal is, movie opens in 3 days :|

30 reviews in and this movie has now slunk below Superman Returns on the RT scale.

This will be the reverse. No way is this worse than Superman Returns.... no f-ing way.

God I hate RT. I'm out of here lol

lol you guys. Don't pretend you wouldn't be singing a different tune about RT if the score was 95 right now. I know that game ;)

Same here. Most of the times are for IMAX 3-D. There's one IMAX and one Digital screen for the AMC's in town.

I don't enjoy 3-D and really don't want to see the movie that way.

I explained why I hate RT. That fucking site got me with Returns. Shit was being praised when I went opening weekend. What the hell were critics smoking back in 06.

Hell it still ended up at 76% or something like that and all it has is some pretty scenes.

ReiGun, it's odd :\ They better start adding stuff. I don't get it. And I too don't want to have to see it in 3D.

This movie is currently rated lower than Thor. Thor was awful, yet got a free pass from a lot of critics.

Moral of the story, critics are untrustworthy.

I guess critics wanted Superman lifting objects again. I mean that movie was deep as hell. Touched my heart that creeper Supes.

These are the type of reviews that annoy me without having to see the film...

"The ambition to make a grittier kind of Superman pic is certainly admirable, but much of what Snyder and Goyer set out to fix wasn't really broken in the first place. "
"Scott Foundas
Variety"

It was broken and has been broken speaking from a Superman fans point of view and not a critic. That's just stupid.

Then you have Craveonline who has one guy praising it and calling it the best Superman film ever made and another guy from Crave with "Whatever" Both top critics listed on RT lol

I would imagine the score will rise as less top critic/more comic bok movie fan reviews roll in. It will probably land in the low 80's.

Best quote from that review: "Gone, too, are any of those lighter moments, fondly remembered from Supermen past, in which our hero — in or out of disguise — used his powers for decidedly non-super feats and, by doing so, grew closer to his fellow man. One longs to see this Superman change a flat or rescue a kitten from a tree or take Lois for a flight around the block."

yep that would make a great and exciting film... I wonder if the critics review it for what it is, or what they expect Superman to be.

Yeah, if you didn't think there was anything broken about Superman Returns, I don't want you to like this movie. I wouldn't take that as a good sign.

And a lot of these critics did like that stinker, didn't they.

I'd kill for Superman to take Lois for a flight around the block, though. That's one of my favourite moments in the first film - but then the Superman/Lois relationship is far more interesting to me than the grimdark pow-biff-sock.

Yes, I did kind of like Superman Returns and the 90s TV series. Sorry :(

OG Superman was too perfect. No movie will be able to beat Reeves and/or DCAU.

A Snyder movie that looks good and has cool action scenes, but weak everything else? You don't say. Superman isn't really a dark or moody character. There is no need for a dark and gritty Superman movie. When people think of Superman, they think of a smiling, friendly guy who is the personification of good and who rescues cats out of trees and punches aliens in the face . Not a brooding frowny crab fisherman.

WB should have switched tones between MoS and Green Lantern.

Have all the top critics weighed in?

I am not expecting "the best movie ever!" though that would been awesome, but a competent good movie that also is a good Superman movie. So far from what I have seen it seems to fit.

I don't think it will be better than the Nolan Batman movies but really wishing its better than the Marvel movies which largely have been mediocre IMO.

Got my tickets for Lincoln IMAX for this Saturday! Super excited esp cause its reserved seating so no more waiting in line for 2-3 hours.

Did you guys read Drew McWeeny's review?

Score: A+

Make no mistake; this is Superman. For my own personal sensibilities, this is the most interesting, emotionally-satisfying, richly imagined version of the story. Ever. Comics, TV, animation, live-action… doesn't matter. Even the novel that l have often mentioned as "the perfect version," Tom De Haven's gorgeous "It's Superman!", seems to me to be overshadowed now by my excitement about what this movie does, how it does it, and what it means for the character as a whole.

This is stupid. Same was said about the Joker and Nolan casting Heath Ledger to replace what some people wrongly associated with Jack Nicholson. Its about time WB stopped trying to do Donner over and over again and re introduce Superman properly. Superman is bigger than Reeves and has had many variations and interpretations.

Superman, as a film entity, has been broken for decades and the 2006 Returns movie was the final nail in the coffin.

Keep also in mind Batman Begins also received largely ok to good reviews but to most fans of Batman/comic book characters it is considered one of the best if not the best comic book film.

Snyder only directed the movie. If the story and tone don't work its all on Nolan and Goyer.

Superman isn't dark but that doesn't mean you can't take the source material seriously and build a good movie from it. I doubt the whole movie is as dark as Batman. Superman is not Batman and we already heard from early screenings the movie isn't as grim as the trailers suggest. It won't be "Marvel" level goofy or funny and that's fine but it also won't be Batman dark.

And for once after decades of no movies or bad movies where Clark only fights a rock and Lex, this one seems to be filled with action. Hell one of the "negative" reviews on rottentomatoes says the last 45 minutes is just action. Sounds awesome.

yup, pretty polarizing reviews... checked RT and saw it went down to 71, oops. Reviews are nuts with some claiming this is a masterpiece, best superman movie ever and others claiming it sucks. From some of the negative reviews, it seems movie was 'Snyderdized' too much; i.e., action overkill and lack of depth, substance, humor... Nolan should've babysitted this more and urged Snyder to hold back, sometimes less is better... Too much CGI, action can take the personality out of a film. I guess a ton of action will sell and there will be those who will enjoy it no matter what so it should do well at box office..

Question is, is it better that Returns? Returns RT score 76, MOS 71 so far... hmm

Only 31 reviews. IM3 has has 264 reviews and a 78. Tons more need to come out especially from big critics, no need to panic or anything. Its not GL.

3 more days! So excited!

What am I even reading here smh

It's Reeve. Superman has changed a ton over the course of decades. Also no one thinks of Superman rescuing cats out of trees anymore except for people that can't leave the Donner films in the past.

I mean, the last 30-40 minutes of Avengers is just action, and that's considered the best part of the movie. :p

i think difference is people went into avengers knowing what they were gonna get - action, humor and a movie that doesn't take itself serioulsy. With MOS, trailers kind of led people to believe this was a thoughful, deep movie, with action so expectations are different. Also, looks like MOS tried to be serious (unlike avengers) so there will be more polarizing reviews if it didn't appeal to some.

bwahaha I don't care about the RT rating game that people enjoy so much and reading that little blurb about Returns is hilarious.

Sequel has been green lit too, so Cavill will "ALWAYS BE AROUND"

So which part of the hype process is this? Bargaining?
Why does everyone have to be so right all the time?

Christopher Reeve IS Superman. Superman is THE archetype, not a trope that needs to be fixed. People want Archetype Superman.

HOWEVER, we have Man of Steel which is designed for people who don't think Superman is cool. But the good news is not only did Nolan and Snyder pay lip service to this audience, but the movie seems to follow through on showing an introspective-yet-powerful Superman.

They went in a controversial direction, but they took it as far as they could. It deserves some respect for that. It's certainly further than where Nolan took Batman, so even he's growing from the experience.

While I agree I also want people to keep in mind that it is a 2+ hour movie so even if the last 45 minutes is action there is plenty of time to do the characters right.

Also I think this Superman will be so different than what has been ingrained in our minds for the past 3 decades, that even if it doesn't sit well with some reviewers (the ones who keep comparing it to the old Superman movies as if nothing was "broken" or in need of "fixing"), it might redefine the property to the point that it wins some fans/critics by the time the sequel comes. Sort of like how BB to me is superior to TDK, but it took until TDK for ALL people to really buy into Nolan's take and where he was going.

Or it could just be an average movie :(

But I doubt it!
