Vanguard of Archer (One Shot)

I kinda liked this. Don't know if I could stand an entire manga of the sword guy being carried like that though.

The guy translating the light novel of this got hit with a DMCA. :(

Check his fanfiction out if you want more

Okay, this was kind of creepy. The "conditions" up until now have purely been in the realm of fantasy, but this is actually a real thing (even if it didn't come about in a realistic way). There's some... weird implications with how this whole thing is portrayed that probably go beyond the author's intent.

Arakawa Under the Bridge Vol 1-10
Really great just like the anime, but works better as a manga due to it's short nature (3-8 pages usually). Happy Crunchyroll got this added (even though I dealing with the CR reader is hell), though volume 10 which is the current final volume uploaded ends on a huge cliffhanger...so maybe wait till Crunchy gets Vol 11 before starting this.

New jump series chart but not mononofu :( ugh mononofu is much better than salmon kun.

Dagashikashi ep1 was already that effective in getting folks to buy it? Thats surprising.

women are beautiful

women motivate me ( ノ^ω^)ノ゚
That's even worse, to be honest. There's an implication that if the woman isn't beautiful, she isn't worth being motivated for. Ballroom e Youkoso isn't particularly exempt from the usual problem of making the heroine perfect and therefore a trophy for the men to fight over. If the heroine hadn't been beautiful and talented, would all these guys want to dance with her? The arc with the short sister (the one after which I dropped the manga) wanting to improve herself is less about the sister's love for dance and desire to improve herself than it is about her needing some sort of bloody verification in the male characters' eyes.

Men? They can be motivated by competition, rivalry, their passion for the sport, their desires to overcome their personal shortcomings...and women. Women? They can only ever be motivated by men. Ballroom has nice art, but it falls short when it comes to female characters, and in dancing, they're half the story.

Besides, the manga is nowhere near as entertaining as the real thing.

I think I'm too fatigued to continue with this. Gonna rest and read it again tomorrow since this one seems requires a lot of (mental) energy to read.

It's even worse when manga aimed at girls/women do the same thing.

Holy shit, that theory turned out to be true.
GODA did it again considering all the subtle hints he throw until this point.

What, that men are treated as trophies?

I'd say the poor writing is about equal in that regard. If you would like to argue that male characters are treated worse than female characters though...there's plenty of room for argument there.

Shinozaki 30 - Continues to be my favorite thing in its genre. I kinda wish we could get closer into Kaede's perspective, sometimes it feels like the fantasizing is mutual.

I kept thinking the entire time "man I miss Franken Fran". That chapter was a Franken Fran story without the horrific/weird ending.

So I'm guessing Sanji saw a picture of the bride, she was beautiful, thus he decided to go ahead with the marriage.

Then he'll get here and find out the picture was outdated/doctored, but it will be too late for him to get out of the situation by himself, thus needing to be rescued.

I can't see it gaining much traction outside of jpn.

Pretty much in agreement

I think he meant that some female mangaka writing for the shoujo / Jose demographics are not doing their gender a favor for portraying women in the way you had described earlier.

Kinda ironic in a bad way.

What exactly is so wrong with using a character of the same/opposite sex as a motivational tool? There is a very big difference between someone as a literal trophy to be won and a desire to improve yourself for someone you care about. Especially in the case where said person is inheriently better at whatevet the subject in question is. I understand getting frustrated with the traditional princess to be saved by a prince concept, but to paint all variations as inheriently old fashioned/sexist/etc is pretty close minded on the complete opposite side of the issue.
