galko is great but it's not really a gal thing imho... she spends most of the time just goofing off with otako and ojou
initially i thought she just happened to look like a gal, but I think her gal-ness is kinda just a side thing to the relationship dynamics/goofing off SoL

The entire manga is designed around drawing a gyaru girl blushing. It's the ultimate, as I will now steal from MPR as he so brilliantly put it, magical fantasy slutty virgin. Japan loves a slutty girl, but only if she's not actually slutty. They want a slut who will still cry and make dying mewling noises during sex.

Aggressive/S/carnivore women turn out to be shy, ultra prudish and inexperience in sex/love. Every single fucking time.

You're right, it definitely happens in the West too but altered a little so it's more like people want a slut but will shit on women for being sexually aggressive/empowered/promiscuous. Like, I want a slut but not one that will sleep with other people only me.
It's hard to describe but like the same kind of feeling of a dude wanting to fuck a pornstar but not date her.
I guess I'm more sensitive to it because of consuming more Japanese media and having a large critical eye towards Japan in general for a while.

that's not what the manga is about though. there's like zero pretense of serious relationship in galko-chan at all besides the girl friendship. everything else is 'adorable kid crush' or 'omg gal on the street' one-shot gag.

It's playing with the stereotype of a gyaru, who are flashy and boisterous and aggressive stereotypically, often looked at as slutty by society talking about silly stuff with her friends and blushing because they're talking about pubes or nipples or safe sexual stuff. That's exactly why it exists, to have a character who looks like she'd be a slut get shy and embarrassed. Doesn't have to have relationships or anything actually sexual in it.
I feel like we're saying the same thing from different angles cos she kinda doesn't really actually act like a gal much, she just looks like one/is into the fashion or whatever. So while I agree it's playing with the stereotype (hell, it's called Galko-chan and they're known just by their stereotype names), it feels to me like it doesn't go far enough into the actually being a gal to be full-fledged gyaru-focused work. More like a SoL with a gimmick.

I'm like 75% sure we are getting a bullshit arc where she goes Sasuke and turns "evil," probably for an extended period of time. This probably is the part where they try to make you like Erina before it happens because why the fuck would you care otherwise?
It would be nice if I could trust the mangaka not to make her need to get rescued (particularly given she's a God Tier chef) but I'm expecting it.

Better than Youko. Might be better than biscuit hammer from a worldview but had less of the shounen action and the keikaku planning.
I enjoyed how it attempted to tie everything together. The author sure shares a lot of viewpoints about the soul as an energy through all his work.
Vaan's story and Lafalle's stories were the best.

The yuri undertones from Battle Orgia have spilled out and formed their own series, with the slaughter/suffering being exchanged for ++cute girls blushing cutely. A 5 page opening chapter is barely even a teaser, but whatever, followed because of the author's art style and yuri.

Sophie Campbell's art is really nice to look at and the whole book is pretty and colorful.
I've never been a big fan of the old cartoon though I watched some of it growing up and I'll say, I really like this new version more.
I don't remember if the old version had a lesbian relationship (given the times, I'd go with no), but this one does and I think that's cool.
Talking about the content, it starts with Jerrica getting ahold of her special earrings and being able to become Jem and finally manage to perform in front of people, record a video for the group and start getting on The Misfits (and Pizzazz in particular) bad side for simply becoming popular.
Pizzazz is a psycho.
I really appreciated the short bios at the end of the book for the main characters (Jem and The Holograms, The Misfits and their 2 followers, Rio) and the various illustrations from various artists for the old Jem and The Holograms.
This came out with a variant cover

All Might not dying is kinda refreshing. The mentor archetype dying has been done to death (pun not intended).
I was not expecting United States of Smash, that was awesome.
I imagine Deku will have to step up to live up to the void All Might left behind.
I sense a prison break coming up in the future. Can't have a superhero comic/manga without villains breaking out of prison.
