It's generic as fuck, but that's somehow enough for kids to rank it high.
Na- I mean Asta wants to be the Hok- I mean the Wizard King.
So he goes to Hog- I mean a magic school
But he has no magic (wah wah waaaaaaaah)

I don't get it.
It being "the appeal"
I mean, "junk food manga" is the best I've got.

It has a simple story with cool character designs, a nice style and cool fights. It doesn't bother with any unnecessary blabla and it's almost mostly action-action-action.

Generic and easy to understand doesn't mean bad, Black Clover is very entertaining and I'm really enjoying it.

Lavi news soon, new art book been delayed, Hoshino debating weather to close her Instagram.

Lavi basically confirmed for next chapter.

Love Rush 1

I feel the uber romance gene is dumb even if it's one of the only times a harem series has bothered to justify why all the girls want the generic loser guy. I also give the series props at this point that neither of the female leads is a generic tsundere and that the childhood friend seemingly isn't insanely in love with our protagonist and views him more as a friend. I'm just worried that with this set up 75% of the scenes are going to consist of our mc being chased by all manner of magic girls. Gonna have to see the direction the plot takes but I can't deem it instant crap at this point.

Promised Neverland 3

Ugh I want mom to survive since now we know she has a number too unless its from her time escaping a harvest (maybe her punishment or something), also Ray isnt in on this too? Please dont turn out to be a bad character.

Love Rush: This is generic and not particularly a good fit for Jump. It'll get canned after a few chapters.

Soma: A stupid plot-twist. Can't imagine chefs the caliber of Akira would be happy to be handed a Council of 10 seat on a silver platter. That'd be insulting and not at all satisfying. Which makes his haughty McEdgeLord attitude even more stupid. Damn, I expected better of the Soma series.

Promised Neverland 3

Good development that answers a small question, adds a few bigger ones, and further sets the stage. Fuck viz and fuck jump if they don't carry/let this go for awhile.

Fill out the surveys for Weekly Shonen jump english to let them know you like it. We're most likely going to get at least one of the new jump starts into the magazine since they need to replace Bleach and Nisekoi (Although I expect one of the two will be replaced by Haikyuu honestly).

The good news is it seems the reaction has been very positive thus far based on them making the first chapter available for free for anybody on Shonenjump.com, as well as the tweet that announced that

The manga is so different from the anime, some have even different personalities and backgrounds. I really love this take of it and the high emotions going on. So good talking about this and not about peace and etc that the anime went on for a whole year about.

On more critical thought, he's probably joining the Elite 10 to precisely protect Shiomi. Probably the position affords him enough clout to uncancel the spice research. So I don't get where you guys are getting that he abandoned her, when he didn't.

But that doesn't account for his absurdly smarmy attitude. By gawd.

Wait, was the mother also a human that can be fed to the demons?

Yes, this chapter revealed she had numbers on her neck as well and she said "I'll be the one who wins" seemingly in the context of her surviving this nightmare world and not in terms of finding the kids who broke the rules

Oh I always give new series 10/10 rank them number 1 and say "add all new weekly series wsj has". In 2016 outside of kochikame and isobee there is zero reason why all WSJ series aren't same day with Japan. When they passed on Assassination Classroom and Haikyu but picked up dumpster fire series that got shit canned in a few months I have no faith in Viz or English Viz SJ readers ability to accurately predict what'll be big and what'll crash and burn. Because of that Viz just needs to translate everything only skipping on series because like Kochikame it doesn't translate at all.

BLeach END

Keigo Asano got in the final chapter. Redeemed.

Epilogue needed more content, I wanted Hitsugaya, where did Grimmjow go, what careers do the friends have, why IchiRuki isnt even canon etc.

Viz is not in a position to be choosy with its Jump e-zine, sure, but I don't think they can necessarily afford the royalties/licensing for everything that WSJ is running on a given week.

I wouldn't give all of them 10/10, just off the fact that they're probably using comparative scores (in part) to determine which of them will be placed in the magazine.

Also, while Assassination Classroom and Haikyuu not being picked up sucked, the former is for the pretty obvious "kill the teacher" premise being a recipe for upset parents, and the latter is just because Viz seems to have lost faith in sports series as a general rule

Love Rush! 1
So To-Love Ru? Except Jump already filled that spot with Yuna which is doing quite good in Japan, with it's second volume sellings 91,526 in it's first two weeks. Canned and axed within 15-20 chapters unless it turns into a unnatural success.

The Promised Neverland 3
Really getting excited from this manga, but I sadly feel this is something that the Jump audience won't connect to. If my fears are true, best case scenario is that they move the manga to another Shueisha magazine whose audience is a better fit.

Reminds me of how Yugioh Xexal manga is vastly better than the anime.

Ultraman Vol 3

Great panel where Shinjiro and his dad sit across from one another with their respective Ultraman suits looming over them. Completly destroys his son's idolization of him, telling him being Ultraman is a living nightmare, he got no joy from helping people and they'll have to kill many more aliens in the foreseeable future. Jeez, must have read the Gendo Ikari book on effective parenting.

Moroboshi's suit is so cool. (Basically Raiden from Metal Gear only with a helmet).

I actually just started reading Ultraman after picking it up in Japan. It's really good so far. Getting told that having the blood of Ultraman running through him is really a curse was a kick in the nuts kinda, lol.

If you thought Akame ga Kill wasn't try hard edgy enough then this is for you. In order to just have everyone get fucked up all the time in horrible ways, most characters just have Wolverine-tier regenerative skills meaning that none of the fights or injuries matter. Throw in a disgustingly self aware role thats trying to be as clever as possible and failing every turn and you have nothing worthwhile. Dropped.

I mean you say that yet they publish the volumes now which I feel a kid is far more likely to have access to then their digital magazine :p heck I can walk I to walmart rivht now and buy the first season dvd funimation put out. That was such a weak defense of not picking up a series it seems they got forced into localizing it when it became a mega hit in Japan.

And considering since I've started paying for Viz Jump not a single new series has been picked up (minus Boruto... Lol), some new series didn't get jump started that are successful (the ecchi one), and garbage that mega bombed did (monofu and buddy strike) I see no value in accurately rating these series. Viz didn't announce anything to replace Bleach outside of another jump start and my renewal is coming up soon I'm rather annoyed the magazine is shrinking and they seem to have no plans to add more regular weekly series to the line up having had 2 soon to be 3 weekly end with only 1 monthly added.

Bleach End

Welp, that's about what you could expect, I guess. I'm not particular in love with the old "skip some years, show some pairings, here's the kids" trope epilogue, but it doesn't offend me either. It is what it is, which is just kind of meh. My anger was already spent on how goddamn nothing of a fight the final battle was. Like, I thought that was the first proper hit, not the last one! You can spend however long that freaking Bazz B or whatever flashback, but can't be bothered to end things on a big stupid bombastic final fight? Bleh. Also, wasn't there, like, direct teasing with the 3rd Espada (the shark woman) being captured or whatever that was shown and literally never went anywhere whatsoever? Though I'm sure there's plenty more dropped threads if you bothered to look for them.

You know, I'll admit that I actually kind of managed to hold on to enjoying Bleach in a junk food way, but I feel like things completely and utterly 100% broke around when Aizen was like "lol, nope, that two shot kill move doesn't work on me because I'm just that strong". Like, Bleach wasn't ever super great at plotting out abilities and how they work to make good fights, but it felt like that was the point where he didn't give any amount of a damn in the slightest, and after that and especially in the last arc powers just kind of turned into "eh, screw it, let's just try to make some kind of neat imagery." That's pretty much all the fights at the end were, just "look at my (possibly) cool looking thing, isn't that awesome!", and nothing matters in the slightest whatsoever. Fullbringer arc almost could've countered that point, but the battles were super short and largely crap anyway.

And that's before even picking on the blatantly weak spots, such as the super obvious and admitted absolute lack of planning making a complete mess of things until Ichigo was literally all of the things.

Oh well, here's hoping US Shonen Jump slots some nice things into the slots left by it and Nisekoi. Ideally something that doesn't die in 2-3 volumes would certainly be nice.

Thx for the advice everyone. Will check some of them out and report back once I've found something I like.

As a side note. Is D Grey Man worth going back to? I remember really liking it, then it went on Hiatus because the author got sick or something. Then it came back and both the art and storytelling were really weird

Wow someone who read Lost Canvas
Out of more popular ones you seem to be missing Tokyo Ghoul and it's a series I enjoy a lot so obv I'd reccomend trying out that.

I really liked the anime adaptation of Lost Canvas so after they cancelled it I decided to read to manga to get the rest of the story.
I know it's not canon but it's easily my favorite entry in the franchise. Cool battles, good pacing, more focus on the gold saints and good art (fans forgive me but I find the art of the original terrible).

I tried to get into Tokyo Ghoul but lost interest sometime after the end of the storyline from the first season of the anime. There was something about the pacing that made it seems kinda slow, I don't know

Kongou Banchou, from the mangka of The Seven Deadly Sins. Much less fanservicy compared to that, since most of the characters are dudes though there still is some.

Looked at some pics and it seems pretty cool. Will check it out

I'd say Hajime no Ippo and Terraformars.

Oh forgot to put Terraformars on the list. It's pretty fun.
Ippo is on my to read list. But everytime I see the number of chapters I push it to the "later" list lol

Feel Lucifer and The Biscuit Hammer is pretty obligatory. Though, it takes a minute for a really good fight to happen. Luckily, it's got the character in spade with some pretty minimum fan service.

Though, if you really just want a series of cool fights after fights with minimal story, Gamaran is just that, a series of really cool fights one after the other with minimal story. It's about this kid who is part of a city wide martial arts tournament to the death in the Edo period. Pretty good read, lots of really cool bits right from the getgo involving a wide cast of badasses on both sides(though truthfully, a lot are kinda bland as characters even though they do get a lot of really cool fights).

Both look good. Will check them out.
Thx

Jump should green-light a new sports manga when these new series inevitably go belly-up. I recommend hitting up my boy Inagaki to finally do that ice hockey manga the world deserves

For Assassination Classroom, keep in mind the volumes the premise will only affect its own sales. With adding it to jump, you need to worry about losing sales that would otherwise be fine. I don't know that it would've been as bad as expected (and remember the initial decision was made when gun violence was recently big in the news)

Jump hasn't been picking up series because nothing has ended. They've gone over that licensing fees and fees to the author are the reason they can only have a specific amount of series.

As for Jump starts, Jump gives literally every new series a chance besides the ultra risque ones. Literally only major ecchi series have been absent from jump starts. As I said before, since nothing had ended for the older ones, they never had a chance to be added during the Jump Start period. Now that two series have ended, feedback to the new jump starts is much more critical since I imagine at least one of them will be put in

I fully expect two new series soon since both Nisekoi and Bleach ended. I'm guessing they're waiting for the reaction to the last jump start in this batch before they finalize what they'll pick up for the magazine though

Pretty much agree with everything you wrote, its sad too since the mangaka's previous work (a onehsot) was pretty interesting even if cliche/overdone.

If you want to have your torture porn and gratuitous violence on the main characters then fine but at least make it have a purpose. I'm not talking about violent fights like in Fist of the North Star but Divine Comedy levels of torture like "I was on fire for like 8 years." And its not even a rare thing or a crux of the story like with Griffith or Kaneki's torture, its just a thing that happens cuz its hardcore.

That's not even getting into how every woman in the series exists to get fridged or raped and other shit. Its just like some comic book you'd read in the 90s by Image.

Honestly for the 3 new Jump starts, Red sprite has my favourite kind of character design from what I can see from the art. Hoping it's good, since I will surely continue to read both promised neverland and Love rush but they aren't my kind of thing.

I got scared for a second, I though you were speaking of Fire Force. I am greatly anticipating the manga in november and what you were writing had me in wut mode

Is Fire Force the manga by the Soul Eater dude? Because that one is pretty awful too, but not in the same ballpark

I know how you are a very harsh critique and I'm not asking for anything huge. I just want to have a manga with that sweet artstyle. I would be satisfied with a B tier manga.

Hinamatsuri ch. 53

While I'm glad this is back, I also kinda just wanted to laugh here. :[

Anzu, you're alright.

The Promised Neverland ch. 3

That page of Mom suddenly appearing right beside Emma and looking her dead in the eye was pretty good, actually. Not so sure about Mom sharing her inner thoughts - guess that's more of a preference thing, but it's a little more interesting when you can't tell what she's thinking about these kids.

Saotome senshu, hitakakusu ("female athlete cover-up", roughly speaking)

Spotted this new series in this week's Spirits. Female boxer confesses to some dweeb who declines because he doesn't want to make her lower focus for her upcoming boxing match? Seems promising, will have to keep an eye out.

Mc girl is fit as fuuuuuck
