Black Clover 82

Okay I was overly confused about this chapter since they just tossed in 3 new characters that somehow Aster and co met before and had some event with even though I never saw them before.

Apparently this series has a light novel spinoff that coincides with the manga

that is overly confusing and cheap if I may toss my two sense in

they should've tossed that story in the manga if it actually would later on have importance... I mean now we somehow have someone knowing another unknown secret for another character in this story but instead of actually presenting it evenly they just casually tossed it in with the belief we know everything else

What the fuck? I was thinking that maybe it was something during the invasion or something from an earlier arc that I forgot but spin off characters? That is so fucking stupid

Also a light novel? Seriously? I mean I love Black Clover and all but writing a LN out of it sounds so fucking silly.

......I'm sorta happy I stopped reading this manga around 20 chapters in then, this would piss me off beyond words.

hopefully they don't do more spin-offs in the future since we basically missed an entire arc

the dude apparently calls himself Aster's teacher so now I am confused on what he taught him

I mean they literally swooped in after their casual introduction and grabbed aster towards some witch place which they casually mentioned without any exposition lol

......I'm sorta happy I stopped reading this manga around 20 chapters in then, this would piss me off beyond words.

I actually was so confused with this chapter at first lol

then when I actually knew why I never knew them I felt completely disconnected to the story

a story mind you that was already bare bone

I started thinking the same some months ago. But I've been silent until now.
It's because MangaGAF sucks. I would say I like more manga than anime, but animeGaf is better than mangaGaf.

90% of the posts as you said are one-liners, super short impressions of a new chapter. They are so short that are worthless, they basically are "this is good", "this is lewd", "this is so-so", "X happened", etc.

That's not a whole lot different to many anime posts, super short impressions of single episodes. Certainly that's what mine are like Its only a tiny minority that post large blog like entries.

I was fearing that Takara would somehow being showing up more, and am glad that she's still just someone the MC admires/has a platonic crush on.

Good to see Kikuchi and the other guy get some more development, and seeing them use that HUEVO song as a reference was pretty funny. Like before, things are a bit too convenient in that Kikuchi's voice, which traumatized him when it changed and made it impossible for him to keep singing in a choir, happens to be exactly what he'd need to be a flamenco singer. I can roll with it since things are still flowing pretty well and the character developments are kick-started by those happy coincidences, and it's still up to the characters to gather the courage to actually change themselves.

I think the difference is that AnimeGaf "more" responsive to lengthy post. That is to be expected though since anime have a set list of shows per season, makes it easier for people to react to since they are nore likely to watch the same show. Meanwhile manga is much more flexible at that with different publishing schedule. There's no fixed set of reading in certain amount of time and thus people are less likely to read the same thing. Not to mention that by pure number manga eclised anime by huge margin for obvious reasons (just look at lewd titles that Zweizer had read and posted an impression here, inexhaustible) .

When something real good explode in popularity and the majority of MangaGaf read it, that's when discussion usually start to kick in. It's not like there isn't discussion, it just they are happened at more random interval.

I hope it's not a long ban...

Dungeon Meshi 28

If someone ever ask me what is so good about this manga, i won't give them a long detailed explanation. Just give them the manga and have them read it.

The detail and foreshadow is amazing. Kensuke leaping out of farylin hand mean there's indeed something wrong with her. Senshi almost got himself killed due to igniting fire near red dragon even though Laius already explaining how red dragon breath work. The way bank inthat world work.THE FOOD PORN!

The wait for the next chapter going to be painful

Wait, did the discussion I started get Oni banned after replying to that one post, or was it due to some other reason?

Smarm aside, what I enjoy in AnimeGAF is that it's a bit easier to talk about specific shows since, as you guys have stated, there's way fewer anime shows airing each week compared to manga, and the amount of content on each episode is larger in contrast to what a single manga chapter can offer.

Maybe I'd be better off in individual manga OTs, rather than the general thread, but then again I'm not all that much into it due to how rare and expensive manga is in Argentina... I've been reading a couple things in Crunchyroll, but I'd rather have physical manga that can be read on the go without murdering my tourist SIM data.

I've already posted about it in the Anime OT and I got a couple replies, but I guess I might as well post it here: I'm looking for JP manga series that focus mainly on character development and aren't too long (since I can't take >30 volumes' worth of manga back home this time around), with series such as Kokoro Connect, Umineko or the Monogatari series being my favorites. I'll be checking the OT out and doing some research on series soon, but if anyone else wants to chip in, I'd really appreciate it as well.

I don't know if that is the exact reason for the ban, but chances are it probably is. Not going to discuss it further since it's probably not wise to talk about ban in thread.

As for recommendation,
I already mentioned it in the previous page, 'the private report on my lesbian experience with loneliness'
It's only one volume and you could read the preview on author pixiv if you're not so sure if it's to your liking. Just search for Eita Kabi Pixiv.

There also several series like
- Solanin
- Boys on the run
- Ressentiment

As striferser suggested, most series by Kengo Hanazawa are solid picks. I'd also add Goodnight Punpun, Spirit Circle, The Music of Marie, Tasogare Otome x Amnesia and Majime na Jikan to the list.

I'd suggest 7 Seeds, as it has arguably the best character development I've read in manga, but it's a long-runner that currently clocks at 32 volumes...

How long is this standoff going on? It is dragging. A bit.
It really feels like someone is thinking hard for weeks now what to do with the series.

Hayate No Gotoku 546

Hisui is kinda fun.
And seems like Hayate has to get serious there.

On the topic of MangaGAF and its posting habits:
Although I've only been here a couple of months, I really enjoy the way the thread is moving. There's always a lot of comments and reactions that have entertainment value, and lots of bits and pieces of informations strewn about all over the place. Of course there's also the few long and detailed impression posts in between, but due to the nature of manga and the quantity of series read, it is kinda understandable that that you won't always find two or more posters having the urge to discuss the same series on a deeper level at the same time.

Sure, one could argue that there is a need to improve quality and lessen the quantity of posts. But enforcing this would take away a bit of what makes this thread a rather relaxed and chill place. No one is stopping anyone from doing it though, and neither should users that enjoy the pace the thread is going feel like they are in the wrong here. Not everyone's here solely for deep discussion and detailed impressions, some just like to unwind with some poignant comments of others on the manga one just read and add another one to the list. Probably pointless and redundant in a sense, but I don't see the problem if its enjoyable for some and easily ignorable for the rest.

i have serious issues with questioning the 'worth' of impressions posts even if they're literally a sentence long, but i made the main thrust of my argument earlier tbh

I mean bottom lining it i don't have as much time to think and analyse manga as I used to, but I still want to drop some thoughts about it as I read it, so I'm gonna do that they way I want to do it

Mizukami Satoshi Trinity Works:
Lucifer and The Biscuit Hammmer (10 volumes)
Sengoku Youko (17 volumes)
Spirit Circle (6 volumes)
While his work is not mainly about study of character and their growth, the themes that integral to his story involved a lit of character development whether thay are main or supporting cast. One of the strong point of Mizukami is how he can managed to tell all of his story within small number of volume compared to his contemporary (Sengoku Youko could be actually said as two series manga that happened to be serialized as one).

Grand Blue 12.5

It's a tradition alright.

Wait, did the discussion I started get Oni banned after replying to that one post, or was it due to some other reason?

Seems to be more of the former tbh. And while i understood where Oni was coming from due to the somewhat condescending tone of the post he was replying to, his reaction was too blunt for here.

As for my suggestions:

Lucifier and the Buscuit Hammer
Inari Konkon (somwhat of an iffy choice tbh and can get melodramatic at points)
*Masturbation Master Kurasawa (there is a specific inflection point)
*Molester Man

Don't let the titles of the last two fool you as they are not as they seem (the first one kinda plays its title straight until at a certain point and the second one really doesn't)

But like all suggestions in here YMMV

If anything, I haven't posted enough of them!

If you are getting them from the source i'm thinking then yea you havent.

Dang... Regardless of my preferences in review methods, it's a pain when people just show up to diss stuff out of the blue, and I get why someone might get worked up over that kind of behavior.

Thanks again for all the recommendations! I'll be looking into them and seeing whether I can pick some of them up via Book Off, or if I'll have to order them through Amazon instead. One thing I can't ever understand is how I'm supposed to search for specific series in there. For example, for my Monogatari LNs I know I've got to search for japanese novel authors starting with "Ni" (for Nisio), but finding the Umineko manga has been mostly about running around the manga aisle until I find the GFC label (and not the GC or GJ logos, which are pretty similar). The weirdest part is that the GFC mangas are pretty far apart from the other ones with similar names, so I think I might be misunderstanding how manga sorting is actually supposed to work.

Hmmm you are more of a paper person right?.

If that's truly the case then i think only one of my suggestions count (Biscuit Hammer, which was already mentioned) lol.

IIRC a translated version of Inari is in digital form courtesy of Bookwalker ( KADOKAWA's ebook app) and the other two are web based.

Their Story ch113

That was an interesting chapter metaphorically, to depict the characters as animals.

Looks like Sun Jing will get dragged into something troublesome again.

Dungeon Meshi ch21.5

Poor Laius can't catch a break.

Kingdom ch493

Maybe Kyoukai should replace Shin as the unit captain.

I'll second Molester Man too, but it's not something you can get physically (it wasn't published in Japan either as far as I know)

It's been ages since I posted thoughts in mangaGAF but this manga is so good, everybody's gotta read it.

Its a lil manga called Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai - Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen. The story is basically bout these elite student council members, specifically Shinomiya and President, who've developed feelings for one another but neither will want to confess due to ego, instead trying to scheme their 'opponent' to confess. So its kind of a mind game between the two that never ends in a confession but a hilarious outcome none the less. It doesnt just involve mind games though, the series also likes to include just slice of life moments between characters when they're not doing confession schemes.

The art can be most of the time rough or weak, not bad though, but there are times where the inking definitely adds more oomph to the art. Also two of the characters in manga remind of Persona characters, just to note.

nGe6mfD.png
The president who looks despicable, partly thanks to his eyes. He's pretty great character though.

The jokes are fantastically funny, to the point where I'd say each chapter always made me laugh, partly due to the expressions and partly due to some really good writing and payoff. And if it isnt doing jokes, the mangaka does a great job nailing the more adorable moments between Shinomiya and President, so much so, you'd be hard-pressed to argue that these two shouldn't end up together!

Besides the two, you've also got the big boob bimbo Fujiwara who easily steals the scenes when the other two are doing schemes of sorts and a couple of other side characters who are pretty fun to see interact with the not-couple of the series.

I'll leave a few samples of some of the great writing the manga has below.

The worst thing is that its only 38 chapters so far and wish there was more!

I remember reading this back when it was still running, but stopped for some reason. But I liked what I read of it, so I decided to pick it back up.

I'm a little on the fence on it now, however. It started strong, but sort of petered out halfway through. It felt like the story was somewhat rushed after the suicide attempt, and it just ended halfway through. I was hoping for a better resolution between Ishida and Ueno, and also with Ishida's former friends.

But most importantly, the relationship between the 2 main characters just goes nowhere. It starts with Ishida wanting to devote his life to Nishimiya, and it ends with that. Nishimiya doesn't really grow out of here demure mannerisms, and I feel like she just latches on to Ishida too easily (which might be due to her character but still). And nothing really shook the relationship despite all the problems faced. Maybe I'm just missing something.

I feel like this was a missed opportunity in really exploring the relationship with the bully and the bullied. It's a interesting look at the life of a disabled child, but just doesn't do enough in finishing what it started.

(Maybe I should have put some pictures here.)

Just spit balling here since i'm basically making assumptions on an aspect of Asian culture that might not be accurate whatsoever

Yea but it seems more than a personal issue and instead a cultural/societial one wherein you have to show that you are worthy in other areas in order to compensate because you are on the lower end of the totem pole. And that show of worthiness is not just for the MC but for Main Female as well (especially with the specific "values" her family has recently outlined; which are fucking insane).

Because of this i wouldn't be suprised if there is some suitor/marriage interview arc at some point.

Plus he doesn't know that she doesn't really care about his status *shrug*

My beef with the premise is their crazy interpretation of love/relationships

Eh, it makes sense given the character's egos, both are at the top of their games and neither want to be the bottom, in terms of relationships.

This had a small bump in quality in the last chapters, and now we see why, it was because the series was ending so it was time to make a final push in their relationship and have a pair of good scenes.

Overall it was a decent romantic SoL, although I would have preferred less SoL in there. The series had a big period of chapters in the middle where nothing happened, it was just random life moments with a cute couple, but as cute as they are I didn't need 30 chapters of the characters and the story itself lazing around, with ~15 of them it would have been enough.

The ending itself is not exactly a good climax,
in the second to last chapter they just declare their love in the field trip, their friends are happy fo them, and that's it, the last chapter is an epilogue that could be a random chapter taken from the middle of the manga. It gives me ambivalent feelings, I wouldn't have liked some artificial drama shoehorned in the last chapters to have a meaningful ending, but this was a bit underwhelming, for example the author could have put a chapter or two more showing more reactions (positive, negative, jealousy, incredulity, scorn, inquisitiveness, etc) from the other students.

I remember back then everyone was following the series as it got released, and yeah, the latter half was definitely not as strong as the beginning, and it seemed like the author somewhat ran out of idea on how to portray the differences and difficulties that deaf people encounter, and thus switched towards a bigger focus on bullying in particular, which got kinda messy towards the end.

Lack of babies aside, the ending was stereotypical but overall it remained an alright series.

Lack of babies aside, the ending was stereotypical but overall it remained an alright series.
Seems like another case of mangaka need to learn how to ends your manga in the right time.

God, I wish she stayed home more often now, this shit was hilarious.

The Private Report on My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness 4
The way the author managed to make such a meticulous portray of her past experiences is truly amazing. Definitely gonna appreciate this even more when I'll be able to re-read it in one go.

Kaguya must be confessed to is bullshit because the premise is flawed. As a guy, I wouldn't give a fuck if I was lower on the totem pole to my girlfriend, because I know that I was dating her.

Theyre super elites under the impression they cannot be second place in anything, especially Kaguya.

Gunjou Gakusha vol. 2

Continuing with this compilation of short stories, this volume is a bit different than the first one in that one story dominates most of the page count. It's called The Ten Swords of the North, and while decent, and with a pair of good scenes, it isn't that good in comparison with the rest to justify the 5-chapter count.
It's a typical medieval story in where an evil brother kills his older brother, the king, to take the throne, and the beautiful princess is the only one to survive the regicide and the coming cleansing has to run away. Then it turns a love story, as one of the 'bad guys' is really in love with her,
switching sides.

It's only 'decent' because it has some problems with the flow, a few times can be confusing, which added to how the reader don't know all the previous relationships between families or the reason of their hate (or why A loves B), feels as if the author is making up the story as she goes. Despite the higher chapter count, it fails to establish the needed backstory.
It even has a pair of panels where the otherwise good drawing is off, with typical big men with small heads that plagues other shojos.
Finally the tone of the story feels more like it should be a
bittersweet story or even a tragedy, but like most of the stories in this work it has a happy ending. Hell, the male protagonist don't even have to kill his evil father, conveniently he throws himself from the balcony.

In summary, it's in that awkward position between short story and long story and suffers for it.

Other stories in this volume are His Music, a whimsical piece about the magic of the music... no, about the magic of the passion for music, really; Ninon's Crush, a very sweet story about beautiful and ugly witches' sisters, recommendable; and The Clock Chime, which is the weirdest story for now, which features that mixes the drive of death & sex.

Koe no Katachi

I agree with you. First half was great, second half not so much. There was a point in where I believed where the series was going, with Ishida not being sociable and opening himself to others and healing himself (remember the X in almost everyone faces?) as he interacted with Nishimiya who would allow to forgive himself (and it would have been thematic if she is the one who saves him, despite their past), dropping the X's and turning finally in a normal teenager in high school. But the series don't go that way. Nor is the second half about their love story, in that sense the series is disappointing.

Thanks fro the write-up, I know some people have been reading since some months ago, but I never bothered to check it up. The description makes it sound as a pretty hilarious setup.

Koe no Katachi also had way too many side characters that were mostly pointless and detracted from the main couple.

This is one of the few stories where a neat "conclusion" of any sort wouldn't make much sense. It's not about overcoming their problems, it's about merely coping with those problems and communicating about them. I suppose that's disappointing in the context of wanting a more classic narrative in structure but I think it's great for the type of people that the work is trying to portray. Not that it's perfect of course.

Red Sprite 1 - 4

In an kind of European/German industrial dictatorship, some people are use as fuel as they can generate much more electricity than the fossils found under ground. There is a special group of human than can produce even more energy and do feats like powering up a city or an aircraft all by themselves.
The hero, Tatsu, is one of those special humans who swore to free his fellow companions who were abducted several years ago. And he already saved one of them, crashed the regime's grand parade, destroyed a whole lot of the garnison, and declared war to the dictatore on international TV, and made his escape on his giant stolen crimson aircraft by riding on a railgun bullet. In the first 3 chapters.

The manga show some promise, as the premise is interesting. The main character is unapologeticly super shonen but it is kind of its charm. The artstyle is clean with lots of straight lines. Some drawings made me think of Matsui Yuuse's (Assassination Classroom, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro).

Also, obligatory humouristic 2 panel example :
Fall is this manga's waifu
