Attack On Titan Latest
Started it some time ago, paused for a few months and read the last 20 chapters in one go. Started off interesting and disturbing, went into a lull about 40 chapters in where it stalled for time and came out really strong afterwards, with revelations that made sense for the most part and looped back nicely. Background story is sound and the potential for future conflict is pretty great.
Shame a few of the more interesting characters have been killed off, as well as some really outliving their usefulness in the last arc. The basement chapter itself also lacked a bit of tension, although I can see how people following the manga for years would have been more than ok with it transitioning quickly into the big twist.
Overall I'm quite pleased with it, it's gorey, twisty and has something original in terms of art and setup. The only thing a bit lacking are the characters. Sure, some are cool, some badass and many pretty messed up, but they aren't quite charismatic, endearing or really relatable, which lessens the dramatic impact. But I guess that's down to the setting and insanity of them all, so I'm not quite sure it would be fitting otherwise.
