Gee, that power-up design sure looks familiar.
And these side battles without background or motivation, basically just good guy vs. bad guy, sure are full of meaning and depth.

I guess, but I still see nothing wrong with her being an Elite 10 member, since the only requirement is be really good at cooking. It doesn't really have anything do to with how inept of a person you are in general.

Oh I agree. It's just why the idea seems so funny to some. I mean, Tsukasa pees his pants a little if someone touches his food if he's not done with it, and he's the first seat.

Tadokoro's evolution throughout the series sets her up to raise to the challenge and win or at least give out a decent fight in the process. Unlike Aldini, who just gets his soul snatched away from him.

]I agree about Kurokiba and Alice. Though I'm sure they'll figure something out on their own or something.

It is absurd. Worst is that we didn't even get to see their opponent.

I suppose the idea is that, the current 4 (3, really) will go against lower members of the elite 10 + Kuga vs Tsukasa happening, and Ishiki joining in later on to create a majority.

After that, they travel around to other parts of Japan, America/Italy/Eastern Europe to get everyone back while sightseeing.

Or something. Central as an arc just blows, I just want this to be done with already.

They really do need to just do a Lizardmen manga because this arc has been absolutely fantastic. I've liked everything about the lizardmen since it started and this is far and away the most interesting this manga has been. I enjoy Ainz' villainry and the fact that the cast is almost all nonhumans and they're all kinda evil but most of the interesting stuff or aspects of that often get lost in the shuffled or ignored. Obviously it's still a "relatively" early manga/LN but the mentioning of his character over-writing his personality traits was really interesting but...that was never addressed again. And they will often introduce an interesting non-human and then focus on the less interesting "I'm non-human, see my misshapen hair?!!" characters. This arc was probably so strong because of the focus on Cocytus who is really cool and Entoma who is best waifu 10/10 would let impregnate with centipede eggs and slowly devour for sustenance. Like that chick he goes around with as a fake hero is SO BORING. But all that good stuff with the lizardmen combined with good characters, rooting for them and the fact that they didn't just get steamrolled like every other fight in this manga made this far and away the most entertaining this manga has been.

Boy that ntr vibe lol. Even have the tanned guy wanting to go behind the big rocks. Nothing to worry about right?
I'm sure tanned guy will go behind the rocks, but begin dragged by a black haired demon.

Kanojo wa Rokurokubi 21
Welp, ending next chapter. Seems from what the scanlators are saying that this isn't due to an axing (got CPs and Interviews often in its magazine of running), but rather an outside issue causing it to end. Sad to see this one ending, and more so that we won't get a lot of the questions built up answered in the final chapter.

half-baked thoughts on ecchi I'd like to hear thoughts on:

Is the reason why people (including me) dislike ecchi/sexual elements in some manga/anime because of the lack of respect found in these situations?

1) Lack of respect for the character
  • A weakly written character having sex appeal be their only trait
  • Obnoxious camera angles that zoom in a bit too far
  • A character being sexually assaulted for fanservice
  • etc

or maybe

2) Lack of respect for the audience
  • Lazily justifying a character wearing something "unrealistic"
  • Fanservice appearing at inopprotunite moments
  • etc

Mostly the second, because everything is about context. I don't care about the "ethical" implications of cartoon people and porn, i just think it's stupid if in an interesting and otherwise credible premise we get bikini armors and porn-like situations for the only reason to add ecchi to something. It ruin all the immersion and the value of the manga/anime for me.

Mob Psycho 97.7 This is not the conversation I was expecting...

Nanatsu no Taizo Welp I thought this training arc was going to go in a different direction. Either way, that twist got me. It shouldn't have, it really shouldn't have... but it did.

Helk Well this doesn't look good.

To You, the Immortal 1 Well that a pretty good one shot. Wait? this is a series? How? But no, I love the author, I think she's great but I'll be damned if I'm not a little peeved at her infringing on my own dumb winter fantasy setting.

To You, The Immortal 2 Yeah, this author is very smart. Small little thing, but by having death so present and sad in that first chapter, and thus (in theory) the mechanism for arcs to progress, she's created a story with very real stakes and tension. You know, assuming that little girl dies by the end of this whole thing.

I think it's mostly #1, with bits of #2. Although, the intended audience is getting what they came for from the series, while everyone else just turns their back or just comments on how dumb the series is, so maybe lack of respect for the audience isn't that big of a deal breaker.

I think that the lack of respect an author might have to how they present the cast they create is what kills most ecchi series for me. You have no incentive to actually care for anyone in the cast, or buy into what their stories might be about. You are not given any reason to care for their personality, not their struggles or even their history. It's all not important because the focus is on them being just "sexy" rather than also being interesting.

The point about how sexual assault is used I feel goes in both, however. When an author uses it for some quick and cheap drama that I feel it not only insulting to me as a reader, but also to the characters involved. The last time I felt that way was when Domastic Kanjo pulled this shit and then acted like it was okay,

Mostly #1 but some #2 for me too...but I feel like #1 leads to #2 anyway. The series where I can tolerate fanservice avoid both.

A good recent example is the "cheerleading" scene in My Hero Academia, it wasn't framed by the visuals as sexy, the uniforms were normal, and we even got some character out of it. That's good fanservice.

Akira never felt like a legitimate Elite 10-er. Because he was basically handed his position.

I'm alright with how they justified his loss. Was half-hoping Soma would lose so he could go international like his pops, but that'll have to wait until the sequel (if it ever gets to that).

Are you guys reading To the Immortal You? It's so eccentric, but yet I'm still intrigued. It's what I kinda thought Firepunch would be, except that went full retard after chapter 1.

Lizard men arc is an amazing arc the entire way through, went in and read the on volume of it, didn't find the arc afterwards so interesting, but it was just a really great use of the villain protagonist setting

Yeah you could see how it was gonna end from a mile. Whether the manga will be good or not, depends on how the "MC" will develop.

I don't actually think the MC will develop at all, and I am absolutely fine with that. I honestly think this is just going to be a vehicle to tell a bunch of different poignant short stories as the MC wobbles from place to place in the vein of Mushishi or something like that. Truthfully, my favorite books/shows/anything are basically just short story collections in disguise so I am 100% hoping this is the case.

Well I think it would suck the MC experience a lot of things and not apply the knowledge he gained to change the outcome.

I wouldnt like the MC to be just a passive observer.

Ugh, I might have to come back to this ecchi discussion.

I've been writing something for 20 minutes and erasing and starting over a bunch and can't get my thoughts in order.

My examples of bad fan-service were History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, Tsugumomo and Magicalize.

My examples of good fan-service were Amano Megumi wa Suki Darake!, Mai Balls and Monster Musume.

I've defined in this context "Bad" as "detracts from my enjoyment or immersion in the manga" and "Good" as "does not actively hinder the manga/bother me when read/is enjoyable"

This might take some time to get my thoughts in order because there is a strong distinction I feel.

It has to be handled with a competent and soft hand as well as fit the tone of the manga, not be utilized in situations where it should not be placed (a male gaze angle if she has her bra ripped open by a rapist), arise from the natural (used loosely) situations that occur in the manga and follow from there.

For that last one a good example would be for "bad" that in Tsugumomo something will happen and then the next page will be a female character spreading another girl's pussy going "Well time to check out this puss" Conversely, a good example would be in Mai Balls that the girls are frequently in the bath-house naked and there are shots framed to enhance looking at them but they are interspersed shots that are your standard manga shots wherein they just happen to be naked and their is no emphasis on their form; likewise they are often played with a light and fluffy hand so it's not taken seriously and often uses comedic elements to keep the girls happy and smiling and not in unwanted situations. Along with that it makes sense that they're in there; Mai lives at a bath-house and they need to clean up after practice and games. Is it a flimsy reason? Sure. But it follows.

HOW the fan-service is treated is the strongest reason for why it can be good or bad. If it feels natural and is a part of the manga it works. If it sticks out bad and reads as if the author just needed to slam some titties in there than it will come across as such and read poorly.

...I'll work on this.

The all-seeing Kotooka. I wasn't really playing favourites with any of the trio before now, but she's definitely established herself as the most intriguing of the group. Well, unless there's some major hidden layer to Nadeshiko that we haven't seen yet. With Tsukasa I feel like what you see is largely what you get.

Reminds me of Mizukami in his early days when he just randomly throws panty shots on every possible occasion.

Tomo-chan wa Onna no ko! ch466

Ignoring the fact that Jun is a creeper who apparently watches over Tomo's every move, the line about her not wanting to send this guy to the hospital is a shitty and tired way to portray strong girls in a weak state.

Nanashi no Asterism ch7

As expected, Kotooka is the more sensible of the three.

Yeah, that's kind of annoying. It would make sense if she felt like pretending to be in trouble so Jun could notice her or something along the lines of that but nah, gotta break character even though she hasn't thought twice about breaking people in half before.

While I agree it's a shitty way to make Tomofall into weakened state, what just happened is not something inherently wrong or bad. The previous occasion where Tomo non-chalantly try to break people (plus a cotton candy) happened on the circumstances where she lost her self-awareness. First during the sports tournament chapter where she drowned in her enthusiasm to not notice her destructive powers for the girl (also some some of the boys), not to mention her naive view on tournament. Second occasion was just not too long ago, and it is a case where she get carried away (and lost self awareness in the process) because she was playing water with her friend. The thing with dealing with strangers is how it makes most person to be self aware of themselves and their surrounding as well. It's just like real life case where you can lash out the worsts swear word at your best friends but mostly refrained when you're dealing with someone that you don't really know.

If I'm allowed to go deeper, the events that unfolded currently and how Tomo reacts to it is still line with her personality. Remember in the past chapters where Tomo got unfortunately molested by an old guy? She actually want to smack the pervert but ultimately she refrained her self because she doesn't want to feel ashamed in front of Jun. In the current event, she there wasn't any Jun around Tomo expressed her intent ton beat the crap out of the beach boy more, but her self awareness still got the best of her. She's just like Hanao-sensei said: a naive and pure girl, but in Tomo case she's packaged with gorilla strength. If she was more brutish, I expected both the pervert and beach boy to be dead by now but sadly that wasn't what the author write on Tomo.

If Tomo more closer to her mom, she probably will be taught to smack perverts just as they deserved.
