Does Japan have a different meaning of "smut" or something?
I've always considered it a synonym for porn. Just like skin-flick, nudie-mag, XXX, NC-17

Or does anything vaguely sexual somehow constitute as "smut", because that's just stupid.

: language, pictures, or stories that deal with sex in a way that is offensive

It's much more benign than outright porn. Pretty much any amount of sexuality can be smutty in the right time an place, such as, say, Victorian Era England.

I started reading Kingdom yesterday, I'm already on chapter 97, I love anything that tells a story about historic figures, especially when it's about war and stuff. Although a lot of the translators seem to get the names wrong.

goddammit this series is pretty good wow

The character art improved, the plot got rid of some of the usual tropes rather quickly, and the manga they're working on actually sounds like something that'll work. While the characters all have their quirks, it works as a way to make them feel more real. Sadly, they still come off as unbearable at times. At this time, it seems like there is some story progression, but I could definitely be wrong. After all, they pulled that shit already.

It's a slow burner, but I like it.

This has to be the most LN summary I've read

The Academy City on water, "Rikka". This city, otherwise known as 'Asterisk', was famous for being the world's largest stage for the integrated battle entertainment <Star Wars Festival>. The young boys and girls of the <Starpulse Generation> belonging to the six academies made their wishes with Shining Armaments in their hands, vying for supremacy -- Amagiri Ayato is one of them.

Ayato arrived at Rikka at the invitation of the Student Council President of the Seidoukan Academy, Claudia. and right after that, he incurred the wrath of the <Petalblaze Witch> Julis, and ended up having to duel her.

That turtle is too adorable. Really like this one so far. It's got that feeling slice of life should have, with a little philosophy thrown in for good measure.

I dunno, most fantasy light novel plots sound so vapid and uninteresting, it's sad. And then they shoehorn in school life elements just to make the cliches even worse

It doesn't even have to be both, it can be either red hair or fire user for it to be 99% tsundere.

Purple hair is a kuudere usually. Ponytail is genki. Black long hair has the highest chances of being yandere but that one's a bit iffy, it can also be a simple dere half the time. Blond twintails is the "classic" tsundere but at this point it's more of an in-joke than a real trope. Glasses... doesn't really have a personality trope... but they also never win.

By the way red is the best color.

Ojou type is blonde (with drills if you want the authentic experience). StuCo president is usually long black hair though if that's what you mean. Never made a distinction between cold ojou and warm ojou, you may be onto something revolutionary here.

Again, there's little here that wasn't covered by the anime. As kind-hearted and adorable as Yoshino is, she feels like the least interesting of the initial Spirits. Season 2 seems to be reinforcing that view by only giving her occasional throwaway scenes. Tohka's immature mentality begins to become more prevalent, reinforcing why she's fairly low down my rankings. Origami's noble motivations actually get some mention in the LN, for all the good it does to endear her unpopular actions to the fanbase. Next up, the Absolute Terror Waifu!

smut - censored sex, tentacles
hentai - holding hands, tentacles

That's something I don't get though. Yoshino can do plenty of fun things on screen but she never gets any screentime. And the time she does get feels like the same frames replayed with something else shopped on the TV. There's no way she's THAT boring.

I've been collecting manga in French lately and they comes with a separate removable cover similar to the ones in Japan. It's really nice looking but, it's so hard to read with it though, the damn cover keeps coming off. D:
