Alice in Hell volume 1
I enjoyed this a lot, in part also thanks to all those references, some of which related to Hokuto no Ken. In typical Jiro Matsumoto's style there is no inhibition: just a couple pages in, a woman is about to be raped.
The Alice of the title is some type of android -who seems to be defective- and is used by Shu as a decoy to distract the brigands while he's safe at range, where he can shoot them off if they don't comply with his demands.
So far I both like and dislike Shu but mostly dislike because of the way he treats Alice. The way he took revenge on the thug that beat him up though was pretty good and cold blooded.
Alice doesn't have much to do in the story yet, except puke milk and have Shu get a beating and stripped by a bunch of thugs that wanted to take her to their boss. Wanting to take her to their boss to be used as a sex doll wasn't cool, but Shu getting beat up wasn't completely bad.
Eliza is quite childish, even more than Shu, though as the volume ends I can understand how what she went through must have fucked her up even more than she might have been already.
I imagine what Eliza, Shu and the twins did this volume will set up a chain of events that will have some little (but most likely big) wars between the Commune A and the Commune B.
Oh, I found it pretty cool what the real cover for the volume looked like under the jacket
