I wouldn't buy a black suit unless you plan on attending lots of funerals in the near future. Black is not good for business.
May one ask where you can buy such shoes that don't look like shit for that price?
... but I think for a first suit, black would be a bad option. Grey and navy work better with just about every color outside of the greyscale.
Planning on looking good tonight when I go out for my birthday. Turning 27 on the 27th means...something right?
Happy bday to you as well!Happy Birthday!
We have the same birthdayI turned 23 today
What is the consensus on Toms shoes? I was thinking about picking up a pair of slip on shoes for the summer, but I don't want to waste my money if they're crap. How is the quality? Are they comfy?

I think black can look pretty harsh up against colored shirts, hence my point that charcoal and navy work better with just about every color outside of the grey scale. I agree that black suits have many situations in which you can wear them, a lot of which you listed, I just don't think it's the best option for a business setting (or a wedding for that matter, but that's another story).+1 black suit, especially if you can only afford one right now.
Black tie events, formal occasions, weddings, funerals, interviews -- it works for them all. If you think it's too formal, just wear a colored shirt and and a non-black tie.
I wore a black suit to all my interviews post-graduation. After I was hired, the recruiters complimented me on my attire and said too many mid-20 somethings don't suit up.
This is just not true. Charcoal grey is the safest/most conservative/most versatile suit color and always has been.err black suit is like the safest/most conservative thing you can wear in a corporate/business environment. just don't go black tie.
also what giga said.
Again, it can be done, sure. My primary point is that grey/navy is going to look better with just about any color combination. I personally feel like black suits are traditionally saved for formal events and/or funerals and therefore look out of place in a business setting.Eh? Where is this coming from? I work in finance and wear black all the time. Everyone around me wears black suits.
They suck.
They fit terribly. The sizing is very weird, also.
Can't stand that obnoxious branding on the back of the heel. Get that shit outta of here.
Try Sanuks instead.
Casual shoes are difficult. The only good ones are the $300+ ones.
Any alternatives?
Can't say that I agree. I don't have anything against grey or navy suits (I love grey suits), but I feel that everyone should have at least one black suit because it's so versatile.RE: Black suits. I hope we're distinguishing the difference between navy and black suits. I'm talking jet black suits, not dark navy that could possibly (and often is) be mistaken for black.

just get some slip on vans/pointer/etc. toms look like doo doo for the most part and are a step up from what you find at walmart. if you want something for the beach get a pair of soludos or something.

I'm not sure Toms is even much of a step up from what you'd find at Walmart.
So they're shitty quality?
you must have me confused for someone else. Some of their laced shoes are ok, but the standard folded slippers are meh city.I seem to remember you posting a pair of Tom's in the past that you said you wanted in one of the other threads! Busteeddd!

soludos aren't super high end but they are a better design, IMO. which at that kind of price point is all that matters, really.
Not a fan of espadrilles, personally. Would prefer boat shoes or suede bucks for the summer.
well, espadrilles are fine IMO for beaches/beachside business. I wouldn't wear them in the city or anything like that. Not a fan of espadrilles, personally. Would prefer boat shoes or suede bucks for the summer.
There is actually no woman I know who would give a man looking like that the time of day
what do your friends have against black people?
-edit: thanks macuser1of5
to expand, there are a lot of others that make funky plaids and so on, too many to list, really. but if you are looking for a slim fit gitman or epaulet new york are hard to beat. I think jkissi (the dude in your photo) used to talk alot on styleforum/etc about taking jcrew and stuff to the tailor and hacking at it. Might be worth a look if you can find some retail stuff cheap. Just make sure it fits in the shoulder, chest, and armhole the way you want; most everything else can be snipped away.
yo speaking of summer what's the word on slutty tees? alucrid give me your best.
Basically. In fact I would argue that, at times, when I wear grey I totally looked out of place:/Can't say that I agree. I don't have anything against grey or navy suits (I love grey suits), but I feel that everyone should have at least one black suit because it's so versatile.
Just from my own personal experience working at a financial institution (and being surrounded by other institutions, consulting firms, etc.), people wear black, navy, and grey. They all look fine and no one looks out of place.
what are you an animal?go shirtless
