Speaking of good brands, I'm a huge fan of Thomas Pink and Zara for dress shirts. You may have to get them altered, but Thomas Pink shirts in particular are freaking dope.

Oh and I mentioned a while back that I had some shirts/pants tailored by a Hong Kong-based tailor. They came in the mail last week and they fit and look fantastic. For ~$80 per shirt I'd say it was extremely worth it. I particularly like the peach linen shirt I ordered.

Now to find a decent dry cleaner in the East Village who doesn't charge an arm and a leg for dry cleaning.

Can anyone tell me what this coat is called or where I can get it?

Fashion Gaf help me!

I have little fashion sense, usually I rock a simple T with some jeans, you know the basic stuff. I just don't know how to shop, I'll go to a store ready to buy some clothes and end up leaving with nothing. I don't know how to match, I have confidence but if I put a white shirt on and my nipple is peeking through, I put that shit back on the rack. Or like shorts, my legs are hairy and I don't wear them because I believe that if my legs are too hairy they should remain concealed. Also are accessories okay? my step brother told me "oh accessories are for highschoolers."

If you need pics I can try to provide some, although I am a little busy atm.

I will order and try those out as soon as I can, thanks. What about shoes? I like sneakers but I am kind of getting tired of rocked sneakers all the time.

this dude will name some random salvation army hipster brands like uniqlo and jcrew and make you buy his indie crap.

invest in a&f quality and you'll feel the difference, let the blind haters hate

My step brother has some AE and AC clothes, there definitely is quality. Though I might check all stores out to mix and match. Get the best of both worlds ;)

First time in manshion thread so I don't know who to take seriously. But so far he's the only person giving me any advice, so naturally I'll take it seriously because like I have stated, I have little fashion sense so I'll listen to any advice at this point.

I'm more like to name Saint Laurent and Dior Homme but, nonetheless...

The thing is, jeans and t-shirts can actually work really well, but they have to be nice jeans and t-shirts. Baggy Lees and a Think Geek shirt won't cut it. Jeans, a t-shirt, and high tops is my go-to outfit. Concerning colors, if you are having trouble matching, just by shades of black, grey, white, and blue. Then everything matches! Over time, you'll start realizing different ways to mix and match colors. For example, a colored jacket (not a blazer) can look great over something as simple as a white t shirt and black jeans. Shoes, of course, are a huge part of an outfit. For someone just starting to think about fashion in a more serious way, and without knowing much about your budget, I'd recommend something like Clarks to start off, which pretty much go with everything and are fairly cheap.

T shirt or v neck with jeans or chinos is a great casual look. Just make sure the clothes you get fit well. If you mainly have jeans, invest in some khaki or navy chino pants for the different texture. The key to "matching" is to have good contrast; light shirt with darker pants; dark tie with a lighter shirt, etc. Mix and match, some colors such as black, grey, navy, khaki go with nearly everything. As for shoes, I always recommend people starting out to get Classic Clarks Desert Boots; they are an awesome casual boot.

There are basics to every wardrobe, and it will take time to build yours up, so don't rush into it. I used to go to stores with the intention of binge shopping, but that rarely works. Get 1-2 items at a time that you truly will like and will wear. Don't buy something for the sake of it.

Edit: Haha the guy above me recommended clarks as well.

Awesome, thanks to the last couple of posts I have a general idea of what I should be doing and what to look for. More advice is welcome.

And those Clark's..... Damn son, those are sexy.

Always loved the beeswax leather color.

And here are some good prices on Ts and v necks.

Unfortunately you just missed a 50% off sale for them :(

Also what do you guys think of these? They are $120 on sale, but I am not sure if I can pull off the dark brown color with most of my clothes. Should I try to stick with classic black?

stuff like this pretty much. I would even like to dress how he did in 500 days.

JGL in 500 days was basically cool preppy hipster.

the simplest way is to just copy what he wore, get chinos, shirts, understated tees, sweaters/cardigan, ties, a nice blazer

lunchbox specialises in college jock

Sperry's are good too, but I think Clarks are still more versatile. Sperrys will go better with shorts though.

I think lunchbox does specialize in college frat boy, which is fine if you're going for that, because his suggestions are on point for that look.

Sperrys are too mainstream now, we need to go Sebago.

I keep getting MyHabbit emails for Sebagos on the cheap but never bite because MyHabbit items can be so hit or miss. Are they actually decent? I bought Polo boat shoes earlier this summer because I was in a crunch but man I hate wearing anything with a flashy logo. Makes me feel like such a tool.

Also beware of attracting fierce, old gay men everyone.
