my real advice, dig through places like The Sartorialist, Put This On, style blogs, random images, etc of that nature and drop some images that you think look cool into a folder and mediate on what specific elements (fit, color, etc) about a particular outfit/style you like and want to pursue, and maybe think about why. this seems dumb and analytical at first but it really does help you shop and wear things in a confident manner.

Hey man, I've followed your advice, after that I got my first purchase of 2012:
I went from using this:

After:

The denim is a Levi's one, I don't now if it is a "skinny one" but it definitely feels more tight and less baggy than my old one. The lady said is one of the "new cuts" (what the hell is that lol) and not a classic denim. Anyway, I'm happy.

Sorry about the picture quality
I hope this is a step in the right direction. Now I need new shirts, 2 shorts, new belt, and a fancy shoe :)

Definitely a lot better, but the jeans still look a bit large in the crotch area.

I must have these shirts!

with jeans, typically no, because of the way they are constructed (no split rear seam). it's hard to tell if it is loose-loose or just kind of anti-fitted. maybe a size smaller will get you a better overall fit.

Mmm, maybe.. but I think it's just the photo that make it looks kinda big. I think I'll be a little bit self conscious about my package area though, never have used a pant that fits tight over there.

I wouldn't fret over it too much, it's just one pair atm. just something to think about. it takes a bit of time to nail things down, and it's likely you'll hate everything just got in a year anyway ;)

was browsing my flipboard last night, saw these, ended up ordering them immediately:

What do you guys recommend for undershirts to wear under button ups and sweaters? I have a hard time finding shirts that aren't short and fat and that stay tucked in. Where are the undershirts for tall, skinny men? I'm 6'3" about 175.

Wear the button up under the sweater. Problem solved.

I wear thin black cotton t-shirts as an undershirt on hot days. Nothing when the weather is milder.

it's a sign, you weren't mean to wear them.

alt answer: what is the rise on your pants/are they hanging off your hips?

Tuck them in your underwear and fold the sides back when you put the shirt in.

Just bought this Prada winter jacket for a good price (my size was the only one left) :

Is that padded ripstop?

I hope you didn't pay hundreds upon hundreds of dollars for it. Looks terrible, in my opinion. Sorry.

You rather look like a black Michelin Man? WTF? Wear a normal blazer, my man!

You don't wear a normal blazer at -35C. And it's not a puffy coat, it's not even an inch thick. You are thinking of the coats from the early 2000s. It's not like that at all.
