Marathon - 3 maps and one enemy type?

I didn't think it wasn't improved but the lack of content in Marathon speaks volumes I think.
I'm not sure where the lack of content comment is coming from. If it's maps, the 4th one is in the UI already. It's been part of player tests since 2024. Has 7 classes, 28 weapons, hundreds of mods/cores/implants/etc to build your character and loadout. What's missing?

That would be cheaper than using your own engine? Surely not?
Long term, yes. You need a smaller team to manage it, and you don't have to staff up to do major updates, and research/build new tech every few years.

I just can't believe so many people are playing and buying after this company blatantly STOLE artwork from someone thinking they were sly enough to get away with it. I don't care if they settled, were forgiven or whatever. The damage is/was done.

For such a historically important, and dare I say legendary developer, that is some lowest of the lowest shit possible and it's baffling to me that such a hardcore place of real, true enthusiasts and outsiders (who probably didn't even follow what happened anyway) still decided to support them and give them money for it.

As tempted as I am to play Halo on the Pro, I'm perfectly content with the MCC. I really don't ever want to give that company my money ever again. And I'm normally never that guy.
Halo now has nothing to do with this Bungie, but I agree with the rest of your post.

3 maps at launch with high replay ability and lots of layers to each.

Enemies so far other than real players, are grunt bot, grenade launch bot, camo bot, shield bot, matriarch with clone tech, ticks, turrets.

Wild idea - should've tried the server slam because it was free so you could possibly get why it's so fun.

20 hours in so far, level 20, and having a blast.
Forgot the shill bot.

4th map with new enemy types is imminent (you can literally see the compilers in the terminal videos). It's pretty obvious that enemy types (aliens) will be expanded, it's being hinted to constantly as part of the live service.

If they even make it three months

Forgot the shill bot.

SUNK WITHOUT TRACE!
I used to put enemy "missed shots" on my side of the map because I had stealth fleets that could move unbeknownst to my opponent. I won many a game using that technological advantage. Just got to remove the "missed" data as soon as you start hitting their ships as people rarely like playing against disciples of Sun T....Machiavelli.

You can tell those who responded with laugh emoji's are the lovers. In other words, you played your hand too quick clarky clarky

As if I'd ever want you on my hypothetical Marathon team with moves like that.

That's a lot of words to describe cheating lol

For real, though. You can dunk on Marathon for the number of players, but to say the game is lacking content is insane.

We all like different things and that cool. Be boring otherwise.

Exactly 🤛

ODST, Reach, Destiny and Destiny 2 are all better 😂 You're delusional at this point, Chuck thumbed you up but he thought MindsEye was good 😆

Nah, Clark is good people. I also think ODST and Reach are better :messenger_grinning: And MindsEye (after all this time has passed), was OK...not good. And I still haven't replayed it, even with all of the updates.

The only thing those games have in common is that they're all FPS games.

That's like saying Texas hold 'em lacks content compared to Magic: The Gathering when the only thing they have in common is that they're card games.

Each to their own mate. My own enjoyment doesn't make me delusional mate. I fucking love it. Do you think i play 12 hours sessions on my own to prove a point lol, just fuck off.

They're all developed by Bungie, are you not aware of this?

Calm down, just because the game is underperforming like I said it would and you said it would be huge, no need to get triggered.

I has no interest in CCU. I was taking about the quality of the game.

Keep hating. Or just play something that is of interest to you.

Yes, that's obvious.
However, you can't say that, and also say this Bungie is not the same Bungie that built Halo.

To be clear, I'm not arguing either of the points above.

Only point I'm making is that comparing the content(maps/locations) in an FPS extraction shooter - a 2 week old extraction shooter, at that - to the content in a single player Halo game, let alone something like Destiny, is like saying Texas hold 'em lacks content compared to Magic: The Gathering when the only thing they have in common is that they're card games.

Imagine arguing that Halo Reach didn't have the same amount of content as Destiny because they're both FPS games made by Bungie. Stupid, right?

As a black person who has worked at multiple tech companies with ERGs, I can tell you this is a very weird, uninformed assumption to make. Participation has always been optional (some places/some times I've been too busy to even acknowledge the groups, and in others I've actively helped organize events, and get people resources, etc).

No one is harassed, derided, or ridiculed for not participating.

As for what happens in those groups - since it doesn't seem like you've ever been a part of one, but I may be wrong - they organize events (during black history month, hispanic heritage month, pride month, women's history month, etc). Typically everyone in the organization is invited to those events - even if you're not a member of the group or the groups demographic. They also organize other events, volunteer/donation drives throughout the year. Help other groups, and help employees navigate issues in the workplace they may not be ready to talk to their leaders/HR about yet.

If you're ever genuinely curious, reach out to any group in your work, make a good faith request to understand them, and I'm certain they'll be more than happy to talk to you about what they get up to.

Thanks for the reply, yes maybe I wasnt explaining my position very well and I conflated my experience with the women's groups in STEM and social media boosted bad faith groups for minorities I've seen.

Whenever my friend said she didnt feel like she was held back by being a woman at all (this is the Scotland, UK if I didnt mention) and they would tell her shes wrong and self deluded about reality when she was just speaking from her own personal experience + observations and discussions with other women in similar positions.

Again, I'll admit I was getting a bit blinkered by bad examples I've seen and I have had (limited*) experience with minority/culture work groups and its always been positive and not hating on people who dont want to join with no reason given or that dont belong to that group.

I have been part of groups which is sort of along the same lines but it wasnt based immutable characteristics in the way people normally mean that. It was more to do with neurologically similar people among other things.

Too much coffee today made my fingers move faster than my internal editor + thinking process. Anyway cheers again for the very reasonable response.

*I'm in Scotland, and while it is a major city, you can see the demographics means I'd naturally not have that many interactions with minorities even in a workplace of 100 people.

You're welcome.

And to be clear, I'm not saying those groups are 100% perfect everywhere with no bad actors. That would be silly. But yeah, for the most part - the ones I've been around and a part of, have acted in good faith and been true to the actual meaning of inclusion.

And situations like the one your friend found herself in is part of what gives it all a bad reputation. Some people feel like to understand them, you have to be suffering like them. Shows a lack of understanding what empathy is.

I will add that you didn't say anything bad. In case you feel like you did. I've made many wrong assumptions on this forum as well. Just don't go looking lol.

Im a lover of Marathon you got me. Its the best thing they have put out since Halo 3. Its awesome.
Funny that you bring that up as I was comparing Marathon to Halo 3 yesterday to a friend.
It really does feel like Halo 3, it's hard to explain why but it just brings it all back for me.
People are really missing out by not giving Marathon a chance.

Careful or you'll be labelled a shill or delusional for playing something and deciding for yourself whether its good or not.

Opposed to not even playing it and deciding its trash. These people are idiots and not worth you time.

I know, I just wasn't happy with my own way of wording it reading it back after you quoted me, was a long message and didn't read it all back befor posting.

I'm in every thread you can probably see, but only the gaming side. I say mad shit all the time, being both Scottish and having a lot of undiagnosed... brain... stuffs.

Personally right now, I know you as "Near-Shaq height man who has been to Japan and got both lovely and horrible treatment depending on geographical location", am I remembering correctly?

LMAO, no but I want to talk to him :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Damn, getting my GAF black men mixed up. I just did an AI search with specifics of what I remember and the AI was like nah bro you're trippin. I think I've conflated like three [3] people and the person in question wasn't even talking about themself lol

Old Bungie made Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach in roughly a 10-year span.

New Bungie has spent nearly the same amount of time releasing Destiny 2 expansions… and a three-map multiplayer shooter. So beyond cooked for Sony.

6 year development cycle, you do the math.

Arc Raiders was in development for about 6-7 years as well and it also launched with 4 maps. Out of beta Tarkov had 5(I think?) maps. Hunt: Showdown has 4 maps.

This game launched with 3 maps, with the 4th one having a level floor launching a couple weeks after release.

You seem to not understand what genre this game is and how it works.

Playing that card? 😆 A AAA developer Vs small studios, 800 plus employee's Vs 50 at the start of development of Arc Raiders to about 350 now. Loomy or Loopy? 🤣 Clarky is in full on denial stage but you still have hope, I think 🤔
